What you teach here is a revolution. I'm an adult beginner at swimming, and going into the deep end scared me. I tried swimming in the deep end last weekend and my instructor taught me the egg beater and the backstroke treading water, but I didn't last long; Afterwards I tried your technique and it worked and my fear of the deep disappeared. Thank you very much, Greeting from Madagascar

So I practiced at the pool for an hour and 15 and actually got into the 2m pool. This worked the best especially the tilting of my head backwards and not being vertical. I tried all the other ones and by far this is the best. I finally relaxed in the deep water without panicking

This water treading technique will change your life! I'm a beginner swimmer. I can do freestyle but not tread in deep end water. I saw this video today and tried it in the pool. Wow! I floated for a longer period , then switched to freestyle swim to go to the pool's wall. I had been practising treading water constantly, but I couldn't float for more than 10 seconds. This technique assisted me in relaxing and breathing until I was ready to swim again. I hope swimming instructors implement this strategy with their students.

Honestly the most relevant and useful video about threading in the entirety of youtube/online media. 1. Trust the water. Feel relaxed, because you are natually buoyant to a certain extent 2. Always learn backward and take advantage of the surface tension while keeping your legs raised or in 90° motion to stay afloat, while pushing out the water. 3. Breath in a 100:50 fashion. 100% inhale and only 50% exhale while you float so to keep air in your lungs through out. This was the only trick which ever worked for me and i will be trying this in the sea soon in my trip. Thank you so much. ❤️

@caribeswim
@caribeswim Жыл бұрын
Hi DeAngelo - So glad to hear that the flutter kicking technique is working! Also, do NOT allow the instructor to tell you that this doesn't count as treading water. There is an old school mentality that you are running up against. Basically, people have an idea that treading HAS to be done vertically and with egg beater and this is just not true. Remember, the outcome we are working for, keeping your head above water so you can breathe! Once we focus on our objective, the definition can become whatever suits you most appropriately in your exact situation. ---- AND I MIGHT do a reaction video on this comment because there is a lot I want new swimmers to know about this exact situation :). Congratulations on the technique working for you and Meredith and I are here to support your progress, however we can! Keep Swimming, Jeff and Mer

Hi Jeff, I was looking around on youtube for threading water videos. Long story short, I am a beginner swimmer that is able to swim freestyle without stopping There was once in a public pool I bump into someone and had to stop, guess what? it was the deep end and I sink instantly. Had a mini heart attack before doing a panic flutter kick( like i do in freestyle). frankly it was a panic rather then a planned action and fortunately it worked. immediately switch to freestyle and headed to the wall (fortunately I planned to swim only at the first or last lane nearest to the wall) Next i had to come to youtube and search for ways in which I could tread water and found your video. Will attempt your technique and see how it goes

I'm 52 and have been afraid of wading too deep in any body of water my entire life. I had two horrible past experiences that have caused nothing by anxiety anytime I've tried to learn and full blown panic attack once while learning to snorkel. I have had lessons and can do some things like float on my back and get from one side of the pool to the other as long as point A to B is relatively close. No matter how hard I try I can't seem to keep my head above water but I've watched a few of your video's and I'm going to try again tomorrow. I understand that it's key to relax and remain calm so I'm taking what I've learned and will see what happens. I really do love being immersed in water I just need to get over this panic thing. Thank you so much for these tutorials. I will be back with an update.

Hi @toniboloney3063 - welcome to the channel and thank you so much for sharing your story! 1st - this will be an inspiration to others, do not give up 2nd - prioritize relaxation out of the water with meditation and box breathing. When we have 50 years of not swimming, of course our mind will race and create panic, this is our survival instinct, we have to calm that down BEFORE entering the water. 3rd: honor a slow and step by step process with frequent celebration - you can rewire your brain by celebrating more often and by staying within your own comfort level. -- I am SO glad you found our channel - now, you have 2 coaches on your team that WILL help you! @caribeswim
@caribeswim 11 ай бұрын
Hi Nonoorashid! Welcome to the channel and thank you SO much for the kind words. I am SO EXCITED that my lessons are working for you and that you are finding them helpful. You will want to do the following: 1. Take a deep DEEP breath before jumping - a diaphragmatic breath will make you SO much more buoyant and that extra air WILL bring your body automatically back up to the surface 2. ALLOW 5 or so seconds for your body to stop going down and turn back around towards the surface > move as little as possible during this, just relax 3. Once you are resurfaced, take a new breath and then move into chair position Many times, the difficulty is that you are trying to move into the position a touch early and before the momentum of your jump is complete. I hope this helps! If I can help with anything further, please let me know! ---- Keep Treading, Your Swim Coach Coach Jeff

I can tread vertically barely moving my body for at least 6 hours at least. It's all about holding air. I make up my own treads now. Eggbeaters are exhausting.i also sit in an armchair. You just can't fear the water to be vertical. You have to know you can float easily by just leaning back vertically or armchair lean. I also walk from afloat down to my legs behind me. It's almost end of the video you haven't told what to do with kick in chair position....

Thank you for your comment - when you are in this position, depending on your comfort and buoyancy, kicking is not necessary. --- I hope you found the video helpful, Coach Jeff

this isnt really treading water as youre just back floating with sculling hand movements
@caribeswim

Thank you for your comment - I agree that this is a blend between a completely vertical position and a generic back float. MANY new swimmers believe they MUST be 100% vertical when treading water but that is not true and the act of a new swimmer trying to recreate that definition can make it incredibly intimidating and difficult to accomplish. ---- There is a blend between a professional definition of treading water and a beginners version... I am confident we have found that with this video! ---- Thank you again and let me know how I can support your swimming :) Coach Jeff

One thing I have yet to see in a treading/floating tutorial is how to breathe? Keeping the lungs inflated provides buoyancy, but obviously, one cant hold one's breath forever. Upon exhalation, I sink. How do I breathe to stay afloat for 10 min, 15 min, etc?

Hi fitdoc565 - that is a great question and thank you for commenting! Check out our FULL tutorial here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLaUaaWAza21qpc.html In this video, I break down the 100 & 50 principle - these are ROUGH estimates, but we want to take a FULL 100% inhale with a 50% or so exhale. The buoyancy generated from our lungs helps immensely in buoyancy and reduction of output. ---- Let me know your thoughts and how I can help you further! Keep Swimming, Coach Jeff

That is incredible news! Congratulations! Just find a solid rhythm to your breathing where you inhale more than exhale so you can maintain a positive buoyancy! --- How else can we help you? Such wonderful news! Coach Jeff

@@caribeswim question, the more toned your legs are will it be harder to tread water?
@caribeswim
@caribeswim 10 ай бұрын
@@ShyanMArtin - typically more muscle mass / less fat on a percentage basis DOES mean we will have to overcome more density in the water (as compared to that same person who has more adipose tissue than muscle. -- We can overcome this in almost all examples though with these techniques! Normally it’s more of a hindrance in the mind than physical limitation in the body!

Thanks for your comments: 1. How you enter the water - are you 100% relaxed or do you have any fear / anxiety of water / deep water? 2. What enters YOU in the water - How much air do you have in your lungs - MORE is better. 3. Stay relaxed during the movement and ensure your head is positioned back. ---- That is my best advice. Beyond that, I cannot say as I do not see you in the water swimming :). ---- Thank you, Coach Jeff
