There are so many types of silver to invest in or hold for silver stacking purposes and I compiled a list of 12 main types that stackers might be interested in or know of. Not all of them are created equal and they vary in terms of the advantages and disadvantages that they bring to the table. Whether they are silver coins, silver bullion, silver bars, numismatic items, art, jewelry, or something else, I try to go over them and offer some thoughts. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

I totally agree with you , Christian you are one hell of a knowledgeable young man. I still stock piile my U.S. dimes and and quarters, but eight to ten years ago I switched to old world coins, and silver coins.It rather distresses me to hear you don't find them to be a good investment. I have been collecting for fifty three years , but I look upon you as my teacher and guru. I need some reassurance I'm collecting the right thi ng. I have no plans of selling my collection , but I do plan on passing it down to my kids and grandkids.

Gary, I think Christian said they weren't a bad investment, but they just are not necessarily the best. If you enjoy foreign silver coins there is nothing wrong with keeping them. If they give you joy that's a wonderful thing!

Great job Christian, concise information especially for the new stackers finding their feet. Something to consider also for the new stacker is maybe keep their number 1 go to silver from the country they reside in. USA (ASE), Canada (Maple Leaf), Austria (Phil), Australia (Kook) ect. Same could be said with their junk silver. Also bars rate a little bit higher for me. More silver for your money and still easy to sell when needed. Anyway great job once again.

Thanks! That's a good point/perspective - I agree! US may have more relevance across the board (for example, in Austria, the ASE is probably just as good when trading with other European countries).

I have a few silver coins from NIUE Island (NZ). The Vincent Van Gogh painting square fine silver, King Tut round coin, Leonardo Da Vinci's painting oval coin. They are produced less than 200-1000 pieces worldwide and some with 24k plated over pure silver that made the coins less vulnerable to tarnish. Of course will not over stacking because the premium of these unique coins are expensive that more than $23/oz original silver price. I usually buy Britannia, Canada and Australia dragon BU coins. Guess that gold is eventually better holding and insurance policy than silver. Gradually selling my silver switch to few gold coins. Thanks for the educational video.

I was thinking that Generic rounds were the best since it had the tightest spread at my LCS but I shortly realized that SAE are where actually better for selling as long as I don't sell to a LCS. I will get a tighter spread with SAE and higher amounts of interest from people in forums or local shoppers on offerup ect. I am glad to find this out because I think SAE's are better looking than generic rounds and have a little bit higher of minimum required investment which suits my budget a little bit better

For me, ASEs are no longer an option. Today (9/20/22) JM is selling a tube of Eagles @ $16.85 over spot. (19.45) It make zero cents (see what I did there) to accumulate ounces of silver at that amount over spot. Too many other good options. I'm not crazy about generics, but I would be in Generics before I paid that premium. My last roll of Eagles was + 2.75 over spot! Maples, Krugerrands are much better.

Any online retailers you guys can recommend? Or any other coins, 1oz or 5oz silver that would be a good seller in the future?

I stay away from the silver eagles like the plague. Looks at maple leaf monster box: $10K....looks at silver eagles monster box: $11.5K...why? The premium is ridiculous. Doesn't have four 9s like maples, the box takes up more space, they make 40 million a year so that's not special, and for some reason they still say Fine...like when SHTF I don't want to have to explain to some random who doesn't know anything about silver to have to convince them this is real silver. Then I found out through personal experience, sitting on silver eagles for years, it just doesn't go up in premium, it follows spot, meanwhile I was holding a panda and that went up a lot even with a higher premium it was justified, because there's less made and more demand for it. And another thing that piseed me off is the PCGS MS70 for the silver eagles even signed by the designer, it hardly went up from what I paid for it! So unless I get it as a gift I could care less about silver eagles, they cost more, they don't go up in value other than spot, they're boring looking, and there's too many of them. I stick with maples and pandas. Even the PCGS MS70 do well after a few years. These super bullion helps if the silver spot is low and the high premium matures higher than spot so that if you need to pay bills and don't want to sacrifice your stack, you can sell one or a few graded in a tight emergency. If silver spot is high then obviously a generic from the stack can be sold to pay bills. There's a strategy involved to all this, in the beginning I didn't mess with graded and when silver dropped from 40 to 20 the next year, many were underwater, you had to sell a lot of silver to pay bills or if you had a graded for awhile could just sell that and not lose ounces.

Amongst what foreign coins are for you there in America, I'd recommend you the standard 25 grams .900 european silver coins from the 19th to the middle of the 20th century, especially the Spanish 5 pesetas. If they are in EF condition they can be very expensive but if they are just recognisable and it isn't a key date or something, you can find tons of them for a close-to-spot price. And they contain 11-12 euros of silver (that must be 14 dollars or something like that). The only thing: beware the counterfeited stuff (there are many counterfeited coins from that era) but as always, it's all about finding a trustworthy dealer and however this counterfeited stuff is easily recognisable. 👍
@TreasureTownCoins
@TreasureTownCoins 4 жыл бұрын
Cool! Thanks for the perspective! I know that once in the coin shop someone brought in like $5K of fake Pesetas (so worth $0). Wouldn't want that to be me but the design is really cool so from a reliable distributor could definitely be a neat play!

The silver eagle has way too high of a premium. And the problem is that when you are selling to a coin shop, most will only pay you a little above spot. So if you paid 34 dollars for 1 eagle and then went and sold it you would only get 24-25. Thats a 9 dollar loss. I would rather pay 27 for round and get 24-25.

I think it has a lot to do with your location, Greenwich CT only has population of 70,000, I bet bigger bars are harder to sell there. Check what local coin shops buy before anyone goes all in is a good idea, my LCS has no problem buying 100oz silver bars and they actually pay pretty good price for it.

That could be a good point - we often sell those to refiners who also pay lower (not to another person). Thanks for the perspective!

What do you think about Silver Shield? Just generic, or do you believe the mini-mintage could add a certain collectible value?
@TreasureTownCoins
@TreasureTownCoins 4 жыл бұрын
I personally wouldn't buy those over ASEs but I'm not super experienced with Silver Shield either - just my 2 cents. Don't think the mini-mintage would be hugely important as it's not government bullion.

I'm starting to actually like the Canadian silver maple leaves more than the Silver eagles. They feel bigger look shinier and the come with different art. I have heard that the ASE's will have some sort of design change in 2020, possibly an incuse or privy added to them. Anyone hear this?

Great video! I laughed my a$$ off when you said jewelry silver-I don't know why. I could never be into jewelry silver just like I'm not into Grandma's antiques. I can't believe silver spot is going and going up! I just bought some Constitutional 90% percent junk silver for 11 times face just 3 months ago. 12 times face around 2 months ago. And now I paid 13.3 times face today at my local coin shop. Do you think it will reach 15 times face or even $20 bucks an ounce before the end of the year?
