We're leaving Kinsale, Ireland to sail West Cork's beautiful coastline with our buddy boat on a Dufour 485. The race is on as we explore Schull Harbour, Baltimore, and Castletownbere. We sail past the sailing history as we pass the Fastnet Lighthouse and Fastnet Rock where sailings biggest tragedy took place in 1979. The Fastnet yacht race resulted in abandoned boats, sunken boats and countless casualties resulting in a massive rescue operation, Then, we provision for our offshore passage crossing the Celtic Sea and notorious Bay of Biscay sailing our floating home to Spain.

I've raced the Fastnet three times and appreciate your recording the '79 Gale. Love the views of Ireland's rugged coastline, truly beautiful. The food preparation was exquisite, I remember peanut butter and jelly on our crossings. Thanks again for sharing and are praying for a safe passage with ideal weather.

It’s so refreshing seeing a channel that’s sailing in waters that is less travelled. And wow what a coastline with quaint little towns. Ireland tourism really should be giving you a cut.

We wish there were more cruisers here to buddy boat with for sure! And yep that west coast is super pretty. We were always told it was so very happy we finally made it a little further west having spent so much time in Ireland!

First comment, I have been following for a long time. Great videos, especially of Ireland, well done. Jumped on to give a shout out to Port Credit, where I grew up and sailed a little out of the original Port Credit Yacht Club in High School. Also paddled and skated on the Credit River. Now living on the shores of Lake Huron, south of Kincardine. Congratulations on the success with your channel. Keep up the good work. David

Thank you for taking us all along on your adventures (and getting to see the super delicious looking food, it's almost like there's a professional food channel snippet embedded each week 🙂)! PS. If you are in the UK, every Chemists Shop pretty much, has the Best anti Seasick tablets you can get - STUGERON - Do Not follow the dosage instructions though, take half a Stugeron tablet about 30nminutes before going aboard, and if on a long Sail, half a tablet with breakfast every morning for 3 days, if conditions are rough, a 4th day to make sure you have your Sea Legs. Each of the three First Aid Kits I have inboard, has a packet of Stugeron in it. 2 tablets, the recommended dose, means 12 hours of Zzzzzs fast asleep,mok if really ill though. Bob in Wales. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️

Yeah! We were told about sturgeon but what we’ve got so far seems to work! Wish there was something that didn’t make you drowsy though
@brownnoise357
@brownnoise357 Жыл бұрын
@@SailingJibsea A half a Stugeron before setting Off, and if a long distance Sail, a half tablet every morning for 3 or 4 Days works, and no Drowsiness. I have given the recommended dose to a Boat Seller and Boat Buyer I was along to help out for a day long introductory Sail, after they declined to take a half Stugeron, while at Anchor a few hundred yards Offshore with a long pulling swell, I went below to make an English Breakfast plus Toast and Marmalade, the seller was giving a full what was what on the Boat, and then were chatting in the Cockpit, then it went very very quiet. Breakfast ready, I popped up into the Cockpit, and the pair of them were Battle Green. Ugh, been there, and luckily I still had the Stugeron in my jacket, and got them to have 2 tablets, under their Tongues, to get it into their bloodstream fast, and watched what happened, and I agreed to pull up the Anchor, and Sail to the Harbour where we planned to have Lunch. We'll long story short, I got the Boat back to the Mouthnof the Estuary and anchored off again, waiting for the Tide, to be able to get up to the Mooring., and they were still Fast asleep. I'd had a great day, in perfect Sailing Conditions, the Boat went really well, and it was really Sad they had both missed it. In Retrospect, maybe half a Stugeron under the tongue would have done the trick. But most people are happy to accept half a Stugeron, rather than be a Lab Rat. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️

Drones don't handle swinging loads very well. Most people I've seen catching mavics from boat use a hand grip that attaches to the bottom and a long thick glove that protects the forearm. It gives you the confidence to quickly reach up and grab the drone and then tip it upside down so the drone thinks it has crashed and shuts the motors off.

Thatb1979 Fastnet Race Tragedy, finished any thoughts I had about going Sailboat Racing permanently, and I've avoided Every Sailboat with any Racing Pretensions Ever Since. Cruising in Sailboats with everything about them being Cruising emphasised, has been my "Thing" for over 40 years now, and No Regrets, it's been a blast, and I'll take a good Cruising Boat over a so called "Bluewater" Boat as well, as a Good Cruising Boat can easily cross Oceans too, just prepare the Boat accordingly. I may be a bit odd like that, but it works for me. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob in Wales. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
