After taking the truck to the garage they have said its not roadworthy and is waiting for parts. Likely to cost sever thousand pound to repair, Im currently using a rental truck and tis awful.

Noob Trucker in the UK, bringing other new drivers the heads up on what its really like as a new driver. Milti drop and otherwise.I have been driving commercially for one year now and my vlogs are here to show you what driving a HGV the the UK is really like, I don't delete the bad bits its all raw and as it happens.

@NEO DAV technically thats what the highway code says, but who the fuck follows every single rule they have in place, also if its clear to your right you should be courteous to others drivers joining and move over, long as its safe to do so which often it is, unless in busy rush hour traffic

Watch the video again, I don't see any give way markings. It's two lanes merging into one. Merge in turn is recommended in highway code. Notice the bus brakes and lets the car in front. I agree Jay was in the right as I don't think she at any point as far forward as the car merging like the bus example. But don't assume cars on the left always have to give way to you on the right!!. This is why you see more merge in turn signs. looks like you need to learn how to read the road better GamingScotsman :)

The A34's combi-off-on slips are horrifically designed and not formally recognised in the Highway Code. They're bad design, bad planning and a bad idea all round. They should be converted into regular on/off slips.

Legally? I think you will not find anywhere legally or in the highway code that says she has to give way on this road. Shes not turning , the roads are merging ! therefore no give way lines. same as on a dual carriage way when it goes back to a single lane. The common thing to do is merge in turn but its the responsibility of both drivers not to hit each other. Hence why the bus driver used the safe option and allowed the car in. Its all down to the judgement of both drivers who should go first. but as I said before I think because jay was so far forward he rightly assumed she was going behind him. My point is don't assume right of way and end of, because if the other driver thinks the same on a road like this you will crash. If you see someone racing up the side then just be the better driver and let them in. its not worth the hassle for one car space even if you think you do have the right of way.

I guess the BMW driver didn't know you give way to traffic on the right when merging... and was also unaware that she may have been in a blind spot.... but yeah, she's a BMW Driver so no more explanation is necessary....

yep . i learned early to leave a gap for 4 wheeled mergers ,by speeding up or slowing down . they are often on their phone or not aware they are in the pinch spot til the last second . Funny how she even tried to plead her case ,when she had none .

Ah mate that was unlucky, you are clearly in the right. A disturbing amount of people don't seem to understand the concept of merging or they just make a mistake when doing it. I just flash people in all the time that are forcing their way into the flow of traffic just because I'm worried they will do something silly, totally shouldn't have to, and that's driving a car

I drive a van for a living and this happened to me last week. Luckily I had seen in my nearside mirror and had a feeling that the driver was going to undertake regardless. I slowed and came to a stop to allow space for the car to come through. The driver was completely obvious to the situation. There really are some proper numpties on our roads. Personally I would like to see regular compulsory retests for all to weed out the stupid, the chronically nervous and the egotistical who managed a pass first time around. Ugh, what a cretin that BMW driver is. The A34 Birchfield Road is a dual carriageway, and although the convergences have no give way markings at the entry taper due to idiotically designed lane markings, she should have treated it like a regular entry slip. In this context, you GIVE WAY to the traffic already on the dual carriageway and merge in turn only when safe. I hope your insurance paid out *_nothing_* to her for this and recouped all your costs from hers! Reminder: never admit guilt or discuss the incident, even if it's your fault. In this case you weren't, but even an intimation of shared responsibility (like a response to "didn't you see me?") can be used against you by the third party's insurers and rules out any chance of getting a no fault determination. (Insurance underwriters are basically all bastards)

When I was driving buses and coaches, I had a stock comment when involved in an accident. I told the other drivers that I had to call the Police because a PSV was involved. The other drivers would try and drive off if they were at fault! Love and Respect from Steve xXx

If she was merging from a side road or lane, she has to give way to all traffic that is already on the road she is merging on to. You don't have to move over to let her come on to the road.

People always think that we who drive a truck see everything. We have blind spots that can hide a whole car. Especially on the right side for left-handed vehicles and left-hand side of right-handed vehicles

That roads on my daily commute and I can tell you its a pain in the arse to merge onto and out of. Quite a few collisions occur there.

Jay, I know your a class 1 driver. Could you perhaps drive an artic in meanwhile while your truck is being repaired? Would love to see some Blind siders, Negotiating Tight corners. Reversing in between 2 trailers or wagons with an inch either side. Will be an interesting watch.

Anyone in that situation (the first incident) should photograph any passengers, as well as the driver (There's always the chance of bogus whiplash claims from people who weren't even present at the time of the collision, but later claim they were there and are now making a claim)!

It's a common occurrence on motorways cars entering the motorway from the slip road at 60 etc and merging in to the motorway with trucks on motorway doing just under 60 and vehicle entering motorway not accelerating or decreasing speed which will always result in collision traffic if both vehicles stay at same speed

There's no way that was your fault, typical BMW driver assuming you could see her attempting to sneak up the inside. Didn't stop her trying it on though, she clearly needs to hand in her licence as she doesn't know how to drive properly.

All that because a car driver thought she had right of way when she was merging LOL and didn’t know to stop... I HOPE she is paying for the damage to the truck and compensates the company for loses. It showed what we have to put up with and what the consequences are. There are plenty of idiots who iver think they are the only drivers out there, or do not know haw to drive and road regs. I hope every thing gets sorted out and the most important thing no one was hurt or killed. Stay safe a very good vid keep it up, safe trucking.

I also like to ad it shows some of the job that as professional Drivers we have to deal with and can affect us. a very simuala thing append to me with a car merging into my truck and the car driver was OK but a bit shaken but still tried to say it was my fault LOL. but with the truck camera and my photos it back myself up and when he calmed down i think he realised what had append. the only thing we can do in that situation is stay calm and be the better person stay professional. you did well Jay.

A common misconception by most drivers is that its give way....it isn't. Its their lane coming to an end and its up to them to arrange the merge either matching the speed and entering into a gap OR fucking stopping and waiting.....something she will very shortly find out to her cost.

All traffic has to give way to traffic from the right,if it be a roundabout,T-Junction,motorway slip road they all follow the same rule and that's how your taught from day one. If you had of slowed down to let her in,you could of closed the gap behind stopping another vehicle trying to join causing them to potentially cause another accident. These people need education on what's right and wrong.

The code is clear. No ambiguity. Merge ONLY when safe. But here's the thing..... despite that lady being completely in the wrong, I'll bet that your insurance company will have paid her off.

People don’t understand that at the end of the slip road or merge point is actually a give way... that means you stop if there’s no room.

A rental for that damage .Taught the cab had blown off .No wonder insurance is creeping up .Drive on .After calling the police and getting her to admit to her fault .Get DAF dealer to order the parts .Have them ready .Call in and fix .No major damage .Still a lot of money .Not a STOP and repair job.

Merging driving have the responsibility to merge, if you're already on the main road you don't legally have to move over or slow down, 100% her fault. If its two lanes merging into one then one car goes, one merges in, one car goes one merges in and so on (zipper effect).
