The worst ideas ever? Vince Russo is often labeled as someone who has the worst ideas in wrestling history...but perhaps? Perhaps there were reasons, perhaps they weren't what you thought, or even perhaps they weren't even his... but don't be surprised when Vince even owns up to a couple of them this week on Truth With Consequences!

And the whole JR/Oklahoma thing was literally done in an angle in WWE before they even went to WCW and the angle involved JR and Steve Williams in the WWE as well. It's on KZfaq. JR was clearly OK with it when it was Vince McMahon in charge of the spot. Not sure why Russo doesn't ever bring that up. McMahon even literally mocked his condition on air in later years just as bad as Oklahoma if not worse ffs.

WWE did do the bell's palsy JR impression on their TV. One time Ed Ferrara did it and one time Vince McMahon did it. Again, where was the outrage when WWE did it? Why does nobody even know that they did it? It is because WWE revises wrestling history to fit their biased agenda.

I totally forgot Judy Bagwell was a tag team champion before Russo got to WCW. That is worse than Arquette or Russo winning the world title in my opinion... Maybe not worse, but definitely as bad. At least Russo and Arquette were young guys and in decent shape, and they won by a fluke, never beating legit wrestler. Vince McMahon actually beat HHH in his prime for the WWF Championship and won the 1999 Royal Rumble. Where's all the outrage over that?

You are right. I love how people present their hypocrisy. The David Arquette thing had me tuning into their show first thing that Monday. Russo winning by getting knocked out of the cage was also great. It's too bad that they didn't allow for surrogates to defend the title on Russo's behalf, lol. I think people are pissed on the lack of payoff with that one. If I remember correctly, Vince McMahon saying was just to further the angle with Triple H.

I understand this is an old video but I just had to comment. Does this guy not even understand what the Misfits in Action was? They all had military names so why would he be called Booker T as a part of that group? And from what I remember that year Stevie Ray had stripped Booker of his Harlem Heat gimmick and name at the time so he returned as G.I. Bro.

Why should he? Maybe it sounds like a bad idea im 2019 but 20 years ago it was a crazy time and nobody gave a fuck no matter if it's pro wrestling, movies, music videos, radio shows, talk shows, sports. Stuff like Beaver Cleavage was features very often on shows like Howard Stern and Jerry Springer so I don't know what your point is. That's stupid like saying "Why can't you admit that the Beatles haircut and special effects in the old Star Trek with Captain Kirk were bad" when back then it wasn't bad and made sense.

@@dualshock3462 I watched wrestling back then, it was a terrible gimmick in any year that wouldn't have worked. No one wanted to see an incestuous parody of a 50s TV show. He can't even make a case for it or offer an idea of a story he would have wrote for the character

@@dualshock3462 I was watching wrestling back then, I know about howard stern and people doing things to be controversial. But even if you were just trying to be controversial, you can admit that the gimmick was bad. It's really easy "We tried to be controversial, but this idea didn't work" DX was controversial and a huge success, along with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Trying to be controversial is not a free pass to pretend gimmicks weren't terrible.
@dualshock3462
@dualshock3462 5 жыл бұрын
@@friendlygiant2314 Just like controversial shows like Jerry Springer, South Park, Howard Stern etc. had some good and bad episodes so did the Attitude Era had some successful stuff like Stone Cold and DX and less successful stuff like Beaver. But the point is nobody of the producers of Springer, Stern and South Park ever said "We make controversial episodes that are good and the next week we make episodes that suck" they made constantly episodes that had the same style and then the viewers decided what shows were good, bad, memorable, awful, great, terrible or mediocre. Same goes with Russo, he wrote controversial storylines and that's it, some were memorable, some didn't had the success DX had but why should he apologize for or admit some stories were bad when the whole TV and society back then was not about making magic like Game of Thrones or storylines like Kofimania who hugs little kids, it was all about shocking and provoking. Even if Russo didn't wrote the Beaver storylime, it would be something else controversial because that's how the society worked 20 years ago. He gave a lower midcarder a storyline who would wrestle on Heat or Shotgun anyway, it was just a midcard storyline and didn't affect WrestleMania or the main event picture, the storylline was ugly but so was the whole TV and society, in other words what was wrong with that?

I like vince, I was a huge wwf 90s fan and I respect what he did but man, this has to be the worst episode so far. I dont like how he cant admit a bad idea. I understand that when you think of them in your head, sure they sound good and its why you do it. However, when you see it done in the ring, it is possible to admit to yourself it was a bad or stupid Idea. He wants all this credit for all the god shit that took place but admit some of this stuff was just not good. Because some of it was just horrible. My other gripe is his whole logic to not writing TV for the marks and "the casual" viewer. I understand you want to gain more viewers but at the end of the day...ITS WRESTLING. If you hate wrestling, i dont care what crazy shit you book, that person will not stay and watch the show long and you risk losing those "marks". I was a mark back than but the product started to suck and I barley watch it anymore. It is possible to lose those viewers.
@GLPitt1
@GLPitt1 5 жыл бұрын
I think you are right about his ego and not admitting some things were bad ideas. But not writing for the marks is the smart thing to do. Wrestling fans will watch even if they hate it (or at least say publicly they hate it) just to criticize. Nerds love to criticize. So if you do silly, shocking stuff and get non wrestling fans to get interested viewership goes up which translates to $ going up. Especially in an era where you have legit MMA fighting on cable TV.

I listened to the whole fucking thing you assclown. He admitted to 2 things out of 20 we're actually bad ideas in hindsight. Dumbass. Plenty of shit that gets attributed to him wasn't his doing. @@GLPitt1 The casual fan argument never made sense to me though. A casual fan will never stick around by definition. Wrestling is a niche product, not a family oriented show. You know I watch Batman or maybe some other super hero movies here and there but I have never read any of their comics or watched any of their series. That's something only real marks do. The casual wrestling fan might order Wrestlemania once a year but he is not going to watch Raw week after week

@@martifrey3357 Casual fan = more ratings. More ratings means more advertising $. Therefore, Casual fans increase revenue. But it's not even just casual fans they have lost. Millions of people who were serious wrestling fans in the 70s, 80s, & 90s quit watching in the early 2000s. Because they put on boring shows with little to no story and can make stars.

I'm a huge fan of Vince Russo, but I still think the biggest bag of donkey dicks he ever came up with was the Brawl for All, and I'm a HUGE boxing fan (which is probably more the reason I disliked it so much, it had no business on Monday Night RAW). I wasn't overly keen on some of the strange booking in the mid summer of 2000 in WCW, some of that stuff was kinda odd too. Overall though, I do think Vince gets a bad rap. Good bad or ugly, at least he fucking tried unlike the current wrestling creative landscape which has been torn straight out of the 1960s
