I've always felt better on Tumblr, never worse. Instagram makes me bored after... not a long amount of time, Twitter makes me want to bash my head into a wall, and Snapchat is just there. Tumblr always entertains me

I know, I don't feel pressured to interact with anyone (but I can if I want), I know hardly anyone on there personally, and my experience is nice and curated so I can just look at memes and neat art and then go about my business.

Plus there's really no way to 'cancel' someone (because no one reads the usernames anyway and there's no archive that works well enough for you to dig through people's old posts for dirt) and no way to really get money or attention from it. As such, all the social warriors and attention whores go elsewhere, and tumblr's just a bunch of people being chill and making dumb jokes.

PHAUAHA oh so true, I for some reason have 1280?-1250? followers on tiktok. and I have like 5??? followers on Tumblr, they are cool. love them, I'm pretty sure I'm moots with them all lol. like I know about 20ish of my tiktok people wellish, they're all super cool (12-18)and also mentally ill. but to be fair Mental health badness is on the rise, and I kinda attract fun mentally ill peeps. and autism, and adhd, and other neuro-divergencies. I'll admit that, I'm kinda off my knocker sometimes. and probably have anxiety, it would explain some things. but I love Tumblr and how I can get my fix of batman related things. As someone who's never left tumblr in the 10+ years I've had it, watching this all go down from the sidelines has been very entertaining. My only concern is that the site started to genuinely feel more tolerable and less toxic after a bunch of people left during the NSFW ban, and after having only seen terrible Twitter takes as screenshots reposted to tumblr, knowing that they're only the extremely bad tip of a horrible iceberg of discourse, I'm worried those insufferable people will come back and make the culture of the site inhospitable to human life again. Please Twitter users, I'm begging, let me gaslight gatekeep Goncharov in peace.

I definitely feel bad for the artist who get most of their business through twitter, and for the small groups that will have to re-establish somewhere else (moving is always stressful). But for twitter as a company? Nah. Hard to feel bad when the previous CEOs literally threw all their employees and users under the bus for a lol and a buyout....

It's also a place where journalists quickly gather information and activists do a lot of outreach. Also, pretty much everyone doing public-facing OSINT has used Twitter as their main outlet. If not for those, I couldn't care less about Twitter failing.

It's actually been alive and cringe for a while, just kinda off the radar. The experience you have on there depends on the era and how many tags and content names you have blocked. Big sites are always full of horrible people unfortunately, but it's handled much better on tumblr than it is on twitter. If you're worried about the self-diagnosing stuff or the "sjw vs anti sjw" stuff, it's not really a huge thing on there anymore. We can also very easily tell which users are bad apples from twitter so hopefully we can prevent another weird tumblr era that'll end up giving us a bad name again.

Curation is a necessity there. My feed has completely changed in tone since I first started because I made a point to stop following people who spread misery and instead looked for those sharing art, educational tidbits, sincerely feel-good information and Star Trek: DS9 fan stuff. Setting your social media boundaries (which, Tumblr seems to be the only app where you can truly do this nowadays) makes the world of difference.

@@1980rlquinn This exactly. If your dashboard is filled with doom and gloom/really anything you don't want to see you can easily change it. Blocking people, tag filters, watching what you interact with (interaction plays a really big role in what you're recommended more than usual), turning off the algorithms. I wouldn't say Tumblr is back to its mass glorifying depression and the like. Pretty much only shows up if you go looking for it in tags that have to be typed with symbols and numbers or if someone you follow is interacting with it

I wanted to be a scene kid so bad in 2012. My mum said no, so obviously that didn’t happen 😭. One hand tumblr was my first introduction to leftist politics anf gave me the opportunity to learn how to verbalize my arguments into words. It also gave me stellar research skills because people were always asking for sources. On the other hand, at its peak that website was extremely toxic and fed my disordered eating habits and had me counselling adults about their mental health so… In all seriousness though tumblr has calmed down a lot and I don’t necessarily mind using it now.

I feel seen. I fortunately wasn’t influenced into the worst of what tumblr had to offer with EDs and self harm, but it definitely almost radicalized me/brought me into really toxic spaces of social justice. I am grateful for the way it introduced me to a lot of the concepts that I since learned more about and thus care about now. Tumblr was where I learned I am not anti-choice. It’s where I first learned a lot of information about the LGBTQ+ community. It’s where I was first introduced to the concepts of systemic racism and the types of racism we still deal with today. I really did get introduced to a lot of important stuff, but a lot of the communities I was associating with were taking things past that to really toxic anti-white anti-man anti-cis place, and I had to learn where I stood on that

I saw twitter artists (because that’s what I used twitter for) really dig their heels in the ground and I don’t blame them when they’ve already developed a strong base on Twitter. But when Deviantart, Artfol, and now Tumblr popped up as new and frankly better spaces for artists, it honestly rubbed me the wrong way when I saw artists fight against it because they didn’t want to take the risk. Like y’all really going down with this ship?? 💀

Not to mention how foolish it is to keep all of your eggs in one basket when you're an artist (and also being resistant to branching out to Tumblr - that place has been artist-friendly for many years, and have finally eased up on their crackdown of NSFW pieces, so why not at least set up an account in case Twitter completely falls apart?).

@@lyl_es9421 I'm sorry to hear that, but I must respectfully disagree going off of recent experiences. It can be a game of roulette (which I've also seen on Twitter, btw), but I've been seeing both original + fanart pieces receive anywhere from dozens to a few thousand notes.

Made a Tumblr account during the pandemic having never had any social media before and still not being on any other platforms. I do not regret my decision. Getting in on this relic after so many years of its existence and finding that its still populated has been fascinating. Still very glad I wasn't there when the dominant internet culture war was Tumblr vs. 4Chan

seeing the way tumblr as a community has been processing the like waves of twitter people coming in has been honestly fascinating, evilmario666 is a hero for driving some people out but i will say i think we are pretty welcoming to people as long as they understand like, how it works there lmao. i gotta say i think goncharov has been one of the most profound memes to go around on tumblr and i genuinely admire the way it's lived/traveled around the site, like if there's one thing we like on tumblr it's the way we can all kinda get in on the joke lmao. on a smaller scale i also find it hilarious how mcr tumblr (one of the corners of the site i reside in lmao) had a version of that going around before goncharov, the infamous song that totally exists called "volcano (shake em up)"

i've always used almost exclusively tumblr because to me it's the only bearable platform. the great thing about it is that you can see only posts from people you follow and ignore any algorithm based suggestions or trends and all that stuff that on other social media like twitter i find pretty much unavoidable. so the way i see it it's tumblr actually gives you a customisable experience, of course there are a lot of problems with it just like with any other social media platform but it is genuinely very easy to have a good time once you figure out how it works and find your niche of people and friends

I've been on Tumblr for about 7 years now and I loved it because yes of course it has it's problems like all soical media apps but it's really cooled down since then. One of the biggest reasons I never got Twitter cause it's always something happening over there, has it good things but overall it not worth getting one. I'm mostly just vibe and interact with mutual and friends and post my art and headcanons without someone bothering me. Also like the layout of it but I also heard that Hive is a app to look out for

Sucks so bad for all the people who lost their jobs over this bs. I personally never joined twitter, but I've used tumblr actively since like 2013 and I love how curated the experience is. I don't think I ever fell into the "aesthetics" or super niche sphere and have exclusively used it for fanart, lulz, and pictures of cute animals. It's never really felt like "social media" in the sense of just how anonymous it can be and the fact people seldomly use it for business. I appreciate that it's all very personable and self-curated; the only things I see that I'd prefer not to are ads and half of the blazed posts. Fuck pikaman like omg.

I Switcher to tumblr a little over a year ago and I’ve honestly been having the time of my life, the only people on my dash are people I choose to follow and whoever those people choose to reblog, I don’t have to deal with an algorithm trying to decide what I like, I’m very comfortable with my hundred little followers and the two moots who actually like my posts, i can rant abt whatever tf I want and get zero notes, then make some art and get ridiculously annoyed people are actually reblogging it 😭 it’s not like 2010’s tumblr cause those sorts people moved to tik tok/Twitter, the people there won’t make fun of u for being cringe cause you’re on TUMBLR for gods sake

FINALLY, a video about Tumblr that I can relate to 😭😂 I first got on it when I was about 14 and have had my current account since I was 16 in 2011. As many fair criticisms have been made about it, there is something that feels so safe about Tumblr that I really love.

As someone who's had a tumblr acc for years with the only purpose of looking at fanart from time to time and extremely active Twitter accs for the past two years, I think what marks my preference of twitter over tumblr is the ability of having a private acc. I like to have only my friends see my silly deranged thoughts at 3 am and I actually quite enjoy the way the site is formatted... If tumblr suddenly gave the option to have private accs, then I think I could make a full transition there, but atm I'm just keeping both accs simultaneously and seeing where life takes me lol.

@@guada2991 Navigate to your blog, and click/tap Blog Settings. You can restrict who can message you or reply to your posts, who can see your likes and followings. You can also edit the visibility of your blog in search results and to people without an account. However, all this is not exactly the same as a private account on Twitter (i.e. where only approved followers can see your posts).

Since I was too young to be on Tumblr in its “golden era” (mid 2010s) I never experienced how it was those year, but I downloaded it in 2020/2021 and actually really liked it. I’m in multiple fandom (some of them aren’t well known so they are pretty small) and everyone has only been kind.

I was on tumblr as a young teen and then left for a little while and came back during the pandemic and honestly its my favorite social media. Its way more chill than everything else in my experience. Especially now. Its like a lil safe space for me to be gay where none of my family will find me and no one from high school that hasn't been vetted :')

I absolutely love Tumblr 💜 and to me, personally, all this talk about 'cringe' is strange. Jokes that can be understood by a select group of people are not cringe. What's cringe to me is Twitter with all its avalanche of hate. I've made a choice not to go on Twitter, ever, because I've gathered from other media that this is where all the drama is. Meanwhile, Tumblr is my source of joy where I can post and read about my favorite shows, look at beautiful art or laugh at dumb (and not so dumb jokes). Enough drama happens irl that require my energy irl for me to go and deal with this on a social media platform. Tumblr is the best 💜 Plus, most people don't show their faces/real names on tumblr, which also suits me perfectly, because I'm not out, so I cannot post anything lgbtq-related on my IG account, but on Tumblr I can post as much as I want.

I'm too old for Tumblr, though I saw memes taken from it and appreciated them and enjoyed Sarah Z's videos about it. I enjoyed this one too. I'm middle-aged and knowing the generations after mine make content that is utterly baffling to older people warms my heart. That's the way to go, innovate and f with the old ones. I love Twitter and if it sinks I'll miss it.

It feels like Mastodon is still trying to take over, but I am curious to see what happens with both Hive and Spoutible, hopefully both can work in their own ways post-Twitter. (I want to love Hive so much, it was really fun to use, but the security issue from last week is such a strange mess, especially since you could only get the full story if you happened to find two Twitter threads on it.) And the Goncharov saga is honestly glorious, they even found the source of the patches and that was its own thing, but I fully understand that catching up on it now is... so dang weird.

Ever since people migrated away from it due to the 2018 porn ban (which has thankfully been eased up on), Tumblr has actually mellowed out quite a bit (it seems that a decent chunk of the drama whores + crazies permanently moved to Twitter). Case in point - when was the last time you heard of any scandals originating from there?

wait okay now that i’ve stopped having World War Warped Tour flashbacks, it’s so interesting to me that the goncharov narrative is so cohesive across the site. it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize it wasn’t real, because everyone was so consistent in the plot and characters and lore. not the point of your video ofc but i just found it wild
