Youknow, in Dutch, the word for woman, female and wife is the same. And the word for husband, man and male is the same too. It's vrouw and man. If you get married, the only thing that changes is that instead of being 'een vrouw' (a woman/female) you are now 'his vrouw' and he will say; 'I am her man.' It's the one that you've picked to be yours and they have picked you to be theirs. If you really try to say husband or wife, you'd likely use the word echtgenoot/echtgenote which means "companion-who's-presence-I-enjoy in marriage." Genootje is a bit like the humanisation of 'little pleasure/enjoyment' and klasgenootje is your classmate. Someone who you enjoyed being in class with.

@gypsylee3332 жыл бұрын
I keep hearing this take, and I have to say I disagree. I don't see an issue, especially in our PC times where saying "women" doesn't necessarily mean a biological woman with lady parts. Female/ make is the biological sex, man/woman is society's gender roles and appearance where now anyone can be a woman, ya know? I'm a female for the record.

@@gypsylee333 Trust me, none of that is going through the mind of a guy who only calls women "females." It's purposefully dehumanizing. @gypsylee3332 жыл бұрын
@@chandrimadey8419 what's the point then? Enlighten me, because I keep hearing this dumb crap, why is female offensive? @@ChaosRaych saying afab individuals is so annoying. There is nothing dehumanizing about it, I don't get why the past year everyone thinks it's disrespectful. @@heckingbamboozled8097 triggering is a pretty good word to describe the reactions of people who lack emotional maturity and introspection. For example, dave chappele (who drew poked fun at in the vid), treated trans individuals as equals by not excluding them from the comedy crowd. He uplifted and supported a trans comedian and called out the people who attacked this trans individual for "wrongthink". A *large number of people* do claim to have trauma and ptsd from non traumatic events, such as men using pick up lines at the grocery store. These same individuals use certain terms (such as the word "triggered"), very religiously. Its not hard to see how the association would end up sticking and overtaking the original meaning.
@talb.18052 жыл бұрын
@@Considerable_Ounce I think the moment you started saying "that's not a traumatic event" is where you lost me. Experiencing something as a trauma and being traumatized by something is a deeply personal experience, and gatekeeping that word is not the way to go about this. I understand your intention and I do think the word triggering should be reserved to its original intent, but the larger issue is not people "miscatagorizing" their own memories of trauma as you claim, but people who use that word in mockery of "snowflakes".
@Considerable_Ounce2 жыл бұрын
@@talb.1805 I do feel some sympathy for these people, but its hard for me to feel bad for them when they are teased. The main issue is that these people project their personal issues onto others. They scream and throw insults at unassuming people who dont even understand how they upset this person. I also have the insight of having a friend who works with veterans who have PTSD. These are men and women who have had their limbs blown off, watched their friends be burned alive, survived torture, etc. So when people claim ptsd from being dogwhistled at, and then have a toddler tantrum for people not going out of their way to accommodate them, it is REALLY hard for me to take them seriously. Especially when I personally know men and women who have survived the most heinous trauma, but still wouldnt act like these "delicate" individuals.

I think this video was the perfect example of how to joke about something while still taking it seriously. Sometimes when men make videos about incels or just generally creepy dudes it feels insensitive. Like they laugh at how ridiculous these guys are but it doesn’t feel as silly to watch as a woman when you’ve actually experienced these things.
@LISE_NR2 жыл бұрын
strong agree. i will also say it gets so tiring to watch how many male commentary youtubers milk “alpha male” or pua content for cheap cringe laughs, because when they don’t offer any real commentary about the underlying social problems that make that genre of content popular, it feels like they’re just trying to pander to their predominantly female audiences. as though to say, “thank god i’m not like THOSE men. i RESPECT women because i’m not CRINGE like these losers haha.” It’s low hanging fruit, and it often reads as performative for clicks and brownie points imo, but it WORKS and I see so many girls eating it up bc the bar is truly so low. there are SO many videos that feel like that, from like...BIG creators. and even if they come from a place of good intentions, they don’t bother to talk seriously about 1) the internet culture that breeds this kind of thinking/behavior among lonely young men and preys on them for money and 2) how exhausting and dehumanizing it is to experience the impact of that culture as a woman. drew did a great job here balancing the humor with genuine talking points, which was refreshing to see.

@@LISE_NR @paytinii you both hit the nail on the head with these comments. it's not funny when its weaponized against you and your entire gender... incels aren't just harmless "haha" virgins, but a genuine threat. women get murdered for just turning a dude down, and its these types of dudes who do it. when you reduce women to an object to be won, not even having her own thoughts and feelings, it doesn't just fester online but gets dragged into face-to-face interactions too.

I'm glad to finally see a comment that is so accurate to what I've been thinking this entire time. In fact, I was kinda iffy at first about watching Drew's video because I thought it would be just another "haha incel weird" video but it was actually really informative and points out the issue all while cracking actually funny jokes for once. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against the dudes making content about "alpha/sigma/omegaverse" whatnot, but as a girl, it's very nice to hear from someone who understands (or at least can mostly sympathize with) how bad the situation actually is, because these "alphas" are not funny, they're horrifying. just a random reply as to why i really like Drew's content, I like his balance of humor and information. :)
@socialworksucks33332 жыл бұрын
Agree with all these comments in this thread. Part of what stuck out to me in this video that felt different was essentially the language used for calling out the mentality/behaviors for what they actually are...i.e. predatory, sexual harassment, disrespect/no regard for a woman’s autonomy, etc. Not just “this alpha male is a joke, this guy is ridiculous...” type of commentary. Like no, the language we use is important. These “pick up artists” and the rhetoric they push is actively harmful, dangerous, demeaning. Constantly playing off the whole “alpha/beta/sigma/whatever” concept as solely a joke downplays the severity.

If a man wants a woman because he thinks her emotional level is that of a child’s and finds that attractive, he needs to unpack that with a therapist and stay away from not just children but also women. If a man is attracted to the maturity level of a child, he is gross and needs to be put on a watch list, because he might eventually realize that he’s attracted to children. So gross!!
@Widdekuu9111 ай бұрын
I think it has more to do with wanting to controll people. He'd have to unpack that with a therapist and figure out where that urge to controll others comes from. I dated someone that probably went for me, because I was easily influencable and manipulated and he did that, because he had been 'controlled' by people his entire life and his worst fear was to be with a woman that -just like his mother- would controll his life and tell him what to do. So he nééded someone to be emotionally unstable and lean on him, so HE was the one in controll. I don't think he realised that that's what he was doing, but I hád mentioned to him; 'Interesting, how all of your 11 exes were all the victims of s-assault before you dated them.' To which he probably thought; 'Ah, yeah, I am a rescuer-type-of-man.' No, he was the kind of man that could not handle anyone being as strong as he was, out of fear of being surpressed by her (even if that was not her intention at all.)

I use to work with this girl who was the sweetest person I ever met. I liked how she treated people and how she could have genuine sympathy for someone she never met before. I admired her when she was going through a hard time and grieving the loss of family, how she could stay so determined and strong. Without trying, she made me want to be a better person and see the world how she saw it, because the world seemed to be a better place to her. One day after work I asked her if she wanted to go out to eat with me, and she gave me the spill that she wasn't interested in dating anyone she worked with and that she wanted to spend time out of a relationship for a while and she had a lot of stuff going on. I told her that I understood completely and just left it at that. It sucked. I was pretty disappointed, but I didn't treat her differently at work, and we didn't make it awkward. We just kept being friendly coworkers until one day after work she approached me and asked if I still happened to be interested in getting dinner some time. She told me that she hadn't stopped thinking about me asking her out, and how when she turned me down, I respectfully accepted her response and didn't hold it against her. We dated for several years and we're about to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary soon. I know all situations and people are different. But I think a lot of dudes problem when talking to women and asking them out is taking rejection personally. If you really like her and think highly of her, you wouldn't get angry if she respectfully turned you down.

although womanese doesn't exist, there is an area of study in linguistics focused on how women communicate, interestingly, men communicate to gain status and women communicate to establish contact. it's called report vs. rapport, so women are actually more emotional in their conversations men also interrupt women more frequently than other men and talk more than women when in a group setting

The tweet at 4:22 is honestly so telling. "She'll respond because it seems innocent" This is why women don't trust men they don't know. This is why when men claim they're just being friendly, we don't believe them. Any good faith we have is used against us, so we learn not to approach conversations with strange men in good faith.

Alternative advice: Just be comfortable with being single. It's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.
@SaschaHusenbeth2 жыл бұрын
That's like saying "don't feel sad" or "don't be lonely". Sure, it's something to aspire to, but some people really suffer from long periods without any intimacy. For many men, that is what being single is like, because genuine connection with other men, which is what can make being single OK, is (seen as) devalued as not masculine or "gay". The same men who think like this are also the ones who become obsessed with sex as a replacement for emotional intimacy. Committing to an actual intimate emotional connection with someone might also be too scary or hurtful for them. I see them as victims, but also as predators.
@Kittsuki2 жыл бұрын
@@SaschaHusenbeth It seems like you're just pointing out another cultural problem, that men are conditioned to be uncomfortable with any other form of intimacy besides sexual, so to these men being single means being cut off from any meaningful connection with another person. The solution to that is getting rid of the stigma of men having non-romantic but meaningful relationships with other people though, not doubling down on it by saying guys can't be happy being single.
@WraxTV2 жыл бұрын
@@SaschaHusenbeth These people are not looking for intimacy, though. They're looking for an outlet for their sexual frustrations. Spending all the time they do, and harboring all the resentment they do, just to shoot juice into a willie balloon is pretty pointless when you break it down. It's just our culture has drilled it into our heads that you have to do that.

fr some people (men especially) complain way more about their relationship and how they hate their partner and dread spending time with them that they may as well be single lol i don’t get how that’s better than being single
@notthis95862 жыл бұрын
It can be okay for some, it's a case to case thing. I've been single for a while and go through periods of worrying that I'm unlovable followed by some intense self loathing. None of that fear is well founded of course as I am an objectively perfect human person... but the bad feels sneak in sometimes. In light of that I can only rate single life as 9.8/10
