Great video. This can be a thread for you guys to explore between older and newer shafts. For example, I was fitted a number of years back for the widely popular UST Proforce V2 shaft. Because the company has not changed their adapter design, I have been able to maintain using it in my hybrid, 3-wood and driver despite updating the head. I have been a little more exploratory with my driver, but will often go back to it when as Matt says “the need to go on autopilot mode.” While I was fitted with the newer shaft, and have the potential for greater numbers, it just seems that I have molded my swing to this shaft, and therefore get greater consistency. In any event, consistency strike, irrespective of tech, still rules. It is amazing to think that can be technologically improved upon.

It's funny, I finally committed to getting an aftermarket shaft, and after something like 11 different shafts (including Ventus TR Blue) ended up trying the Black 6x. My first four shots - and reaction - were exactly the same as Matt's. It's unreal how good the grouping was, and how well the strikes clustered in the middle of the clubface. Just that alone makes it worth the price of admission.

Love the informative content. If theres one thing I would like to see different, is to always have the "tester" hit the driver without knowing which shaft is which. Eliminate placebo effect variable.
@JustusSeiber
@JustusSeiber Жыл бұрын
They did this before with iron shafts. Matt still could guess pretty closely which was which but as for a club as long as a driver, it’s gonna be pretty easy to tell which is which. The aftermarket shafts are so much more stable. You can tell just from waggling them

I put a Ventus Blue Velocore into a G410LST and it’s the most accurate and longest driver ever. I did not miss a fwy on my last round and as the round progressed I just swung harder as my confidence grew. This shaft is unreal. No duck hooks in last 2 rounds where 2 per was the norm. Duck hooks are my bad miss which just ruins a round. The Velocore was put into play because of the great numbers from your previous tests. Thanks guys and after watching this video no more stock shafts. This Velocore Blue that is currently in play won’t be leaving the bag for quite some time.

I think the most important statement was “is it even the same shaft”. I think they should not name aftermarket and stock shafts the same,it’s misleading to the consumer. Put a different paint job and call it something else cause that’s what it is. If you took the profile of both shafts without the name you never say they are both the same venture. Good explanation and video as usual!
@MrAhuraMazda
@MrAhuraMazda 4 жыл бұрын
They don't put a different paint job on ANY sporting goods. The fake NFL and NBA balls are IDENTICAL to the authentic ones. Same with Samba and Kangaroo Sambas. Same with Jerseys. Stop with this nonsense. You can buy a cheap synthetic leather MLB baseball for $3 and its IDENTICAL to the $30 authentic. Down to the letter. Industry standard.

MrAhuraMazda187 I think you can have an alternative opinion without patronising someone by telling them to grow up. It’s a reasonable frustration to have, particularly when you’re looking at $850 AUD (or whatever it costs in other parts of the world). TM are clearly cashing in on the hype of the Ventus and for any uninformed person purchasing from a big box store, they’re not getting what they think they are. The comparison re baseballs isn’t really apt because they’re not marginally close in cost. The oem Ventus might be perfectly fine, but people should be properly informed. Btw I understand Titleist offer real deal shafts.
@MrAhuraMazda
@MrAhuraMazda 4 жыл бұрын
@@markwilliams21 your frustrations are unfounded and most certainly not reasonable. Literally, EVERY product in the sporting goods world does this. Every one. An authentic NFL ball isnt even sold on the market. The ones the pros play isnt even sold. The "authentic" is $135 and IDENTICAL to the $25 synthetic leather one. So stop crying about an industry standard. Youre obviously mad you can show off your expensive shaft cause it looks the same. Then its not for you. These shafts are for people who demand that level performance. Not show offs. And buyers arent "tricked." The aftermarket shafts are for buyers who know exactly what they want.

I'm so glad you guys went and did this. I've been telling players - ever since the whole Stock vs aftermarket versions started being made that there were differences. we even saw them most times in the fitting, but players didn't listen because manufacturers continued to say that "there was no difference" just to impress the OEMs. Finally they're onboard with it. Aftermarket is just a better investment in performance.

I’m really keen to get fitted for a Ventus shaft but can hardly find anywhere in the UK that stocks it. Last Sunday we caught our mates up on the 9th tee & looking at my mates SIM Driver my eyes popped out of my head VENTUS the shaft I’ve wanted to test but not seen it anywhere & so I go check in a website & yeah there it is Ventus is the stock shaft!!!!! I was considering buying a SIM driver as it’s only another £50 for the complete driver as opposed to buying just the shaft, the head is virtually free I thought........WRONG it would appear so thank you very much for this video. Loved the video & definitely going to try & get fitted before end of summer. I was looking to do it about now but have lost 3 months of lessons & practice & don’t want to get fit until I’m happier with my swing, bloody Corona Virus.!!!!! Cheers guys great video.

Great video as ever gents, I did this test myself earlier this year and had the same findings. Curiously i also found the cpm of the non velocore shaft was higher than the velocore shaft in the same flex almost as if they made the standard version stiffer to attempt to mimic the velocore materials. That was comparing a blue 6s velocore to a 6s standard. The standard was good but the velocore was just plain awesome and for me a real game changer. Thanks

A fitter many years ago opened my eyes to stock store bought shafts , he showed me many examples all brands pulled from drivers against the same aftermarket shaft and most were twice as thick in the wall structure , and clearly they don’t play the same , but it’s really this simple ,if a driver costs say 550 $ , your not getting a 500-700 $ aftermarket shaft in it are you . My initial problem was spraying it both ways with what felt like the same swings , the real shaft straightened it up .

I was fitted with a Velco at Club Champions; interesting in that produced about 5 more MPH (105 up to 109 ) so ball speed was faster. I got fitted to the Black which is lowest flight. I was surprised as I hit low drive typically. Was $350, then spun it , put tip on fitting and shipping was +$600. Very consistent and longest. My local pro toured the factory; shafts are Hand Made. Good materials so pricey.

Strike location and dispersion .... THAT is where the differences lie, and those two things equate to much more efficient and consistent performance! I am a Professional Clubfitter, as well as a Fujikura Charter Dealer, and I have had a chance to hit and play both versions of the Ventus Blue shafts. I got a TM SIM Max D driver about 15 months ago and played it with the TM stock (non-Velocore) shaft for a few months before I replaced it with one of my favorite (non-Fujikura) shafts and played about 30-35 rounds with that driver before selling it. I now have a Sim2 Max driver and have been experimenting with the aftermarket Ventus Blue 6S and 7S shafts with Velocore. The difference in strike and ball dispersion consistency is absolutely remarkable! Buy the way, I still have the TM stock (non-Velocore) Ventus shaft because the guy I sold the Sim Max D driver to did not want that shaft in it. I haven’t done so yet, but I plan to do a side-by-side comparison on the launch monitor to see how dramatic the differences in performance truly are. The question is: Will the Sim2 Max driver be able to beat my Tour Edge Exotics C721 driver with a Ventus Blue shaft with Velocore installed in it?

I think it’s been a while now that we’ve known about made for shafts compared to Oem shafts of the same brand , it’s pretty obvious if a driver is say 500$ with a particular shaft and the aftermarket shaft is 600-700 $ the manufacturer isn’t giving away the driver for nothing , your getting a watered down version probably around half the wall thickness and will play nothing like the real shaft . Excellent boys another great vid .

I have the stock non-Velocore Ventus shafts in two TM SIM Max clubs ... a driver plus a 19* hybrid, and I played them for about three weeks prior to the COVID-19 golf course shutdowns, and for close to a month since area courses have reopened. I finally had to take both of these shafts out of play because I had far too many extreme left misses using them (I am a right-handed golfer, and a left miss is my nemesis). I have hit the aftermarket Ventus Blue driver shaft, and didn't experience any bad left misses with it. Actually, the aftermarket Ventus Black would probably be a better fit for my swing, since my current preferred driver shaft is the PX HZRDUS Smoke Yellow, which is almost an anti-left shaft for me. Conversely, I have a golfing buddy who is a smooth swinger and who doesn't come into the ball from the inside the way that I do, and he absolutely loves the stock TM Ventus shafts. He has even had me install one of those shafts in his Titleist driver, and I am just waiting for a couple of PXG adapters to arrive so that I can put non-Velocore Ventus shafts in his hybrids.

Sounds like Matty needs to retest SIM! That way Ian and Matt can play the same driver! This video is a great representation as to why upgraded shafts can be worth it for some!

Whats the basic difference in stiffness between velicore and stock in the same designation i.e. stiff vs stiff. Half a flex ? Or is it so different that profiles are worlds apart.

I would love to see this with Ian putting some fitting magic in the stock shaft...What would the stock shaft play like if it was tipped a bit and built for someone?

Any update on Dave peltz green reading thing he mentioned on the podcast? I know he said look for it end of May but I haven't seen anything.

Excellent breakdown of the difference between these two shafts. Deceptive marketing by TM, but honestly ~95% of SIM buyers are probably better fit for the stock version. Not too many of us are F-1 speed drivers of the ball like Matty!

Great video. I had apparently not seen it. Sold my "older" hybrid to my mate who needed it more than I. I excitedly bought a hybrid with the Ventus blue so how wrong can it go. ... grabbed it, paid and took off. yeah ... It was a stiff shaft but felt a wee soft and the ball landed within the distance I wanted but leaked left and right. Thought it was because was not used to the club. Then I saw something about the velcor and it struck me ... . D A. So club head is great. Shaft is not what I thought. And today ... this video popped up and laughed in my face ... when I saw the first drives from Iron Byron. A great disappointment. And even more a disappointment because I have watched TXG and instead of hitting a few balls ... I grabbed it and took off.

would spine alignment help the club flex and return more tightly into the same place each time, of have shafts moved on since those days

Could you guys do other comparisons on stock vs. aftermarket versions of the same shaft? I think people would benefit from seeing the differences so they understand exactly why it's worth it to spend the money on top tier fitters such as you guys. Getting custom fit and having friends balk at the extra price you pay for the shafts (along with weighing the heads to make sure they're also in tolerance) and not realizing why they're worth it, to me means there's a lack of education that needs to be fixed :) As an alternate video, it would be really interesting to see a video where you take 10 stock shafts and 10 of the same aftermarket versions, and then measure them to see how well they meet their supposed specs. I think people would be greatly enlightened to see the disparity in tolerances.

This proves what we've all expected. It's not center strikes, it's increasing the consistency of strikes on the face! With a small sample Matty proved that he would have cost himself a few strokes with the stock version. For a serious golfer who plays 50 rounds/yr on avg, it's 700 drives or so, of which a probably 50-75 drives would have worse outcomes in the year. Amortized across the few years you'll own the club (unless you're a Golfwrx member 😁) that's a small per driver premium. As Ian said, it WILL be reflected in your score

That is a very interesting video. I wonder if the contrast will be as big for a slower swing speed.
