Unbelievable! Abandoned Hoarder House. Explore # 124

Hoarder houses have always interested me. I have seen a few over the years. This farmhouse has been abandoned for approx. 6 years. Each room is just full top to bottom with stuff. Each room had a collection of different items in it. A single man lived here and I am unable to find out what happened to him. Shockingly with all the weight of the stuff on the main floor, parts of the floor has collapsed crashing down to the basement. I have also found what I believe is a lot of blood on the book shelve and items on the floor. What happened here?
Hoarding often creates such cramped living conditions that homes may be filled to capacity, with only narrow pathways winding through stacks of clutter. Counter-tops, sinks, stoves, desks, stairways and virtually all other surfaces are usually piled with stuff.
And when there's no more room inside, the clutter may spread to the garage, vehicles, yard and other storage facilities.
Hoarding disorder is a persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions because of a perceived need to save them.
A person with a hoarding disorder experiences distress at the thought of getting rid of the items. Excessive accumulation of items, regardless of actual value, occurs.

My father took me to my first abandoned house when I was 7 years old. I remember going into the house and a old farmer came in and told us "we better watch out as the floors are all rotten and unsafe". Ever since that day I was hooked on exploring abandoned places.

Brett, thank you and congratulations for explaining off the top that hoarding is a mental disorder. It would be easy to laugh at such people, but they really can’t help themselves. My mother-in-law was a hoarder. In her case she came from an impoverished background and saw everything as having great value. Your explanation of hoarding disorder was a class act.

These houses are so very dangerous. Death traps, and unhealthy. Of all the videos of this type of house, I have never seen collapsed floors. First time. I salute you Brent for fighting your way through that disgusting house. ❤😊

I bought a hoarders property in 2020. 12 assorted buildings and such were all full of stuff. 2.88 acres. 1800's house. 40' shipping container, 30' reefer trailer, 14'x65' mobile home, 4 wooden sheds, 2 metal sheds, 25' fifth wheel trailer and a school bus. $18,000. I couldn't resist.

Professional Organizer here, that’s a Level 5 (Highest). Hoarding is more prevalent than most folks think. It’s a good thing you’re doing the explore during the winter, just the thought of the ammonia from the litter is making my nose burn.

I have seen so many hoarded houses during my time as a social housing officer. Each was unique in its own way. The weirdest was a house filled with cardboard boxes all the same size which filled each room to the ceiling leaving narrow walk ways through the property. As the guy had died I and my colleague had to secure the property, any valuables and official documents. The place smelt awful! We started looking for documents but soon realised there was no furniture apart from a bed and armchair in the house. So we started opening the boxes to find the guy had saved every poop he did wrapped neatly in paper dated and timed clearly for years. Absolutely the most bizarre house ever. We just gave up and passed it to the cleaning crew.

It's so sad to think that someone proudly built that house and it ended up like this. With so many homeless people, someone could have lived here and appreciated the roof over their heads. Hoarding may seem like a simple issue but the hoarders, themselves, stress out over the mess as well. The problem becomes so large that they can't imagine being able to overcome the piles. The best they can do is to protect their belongings at all cost. That one issue is the only thing they feel that they can control. A vicious cycle that benefits no-one... so sad.

That collapsed room was unbelievable. I just hope the hoarder had already left before that happened. After watching something like this I have a mental tour of my house, considering what I could take to a charity shop so that I never slide into hoarding.

It gives you that feeling of being crammed even if you are not. Very uncomfortable watching a hoarded house. I've seen all seasons of Hoarders and read the book. I thank God I am not a Hoarder. Terrible illness

I’m a home health nurse and had a patient that his entire two story house was newspapers piled up to every ceiling. There were only narrow paths in which to walk. But this place takes the cake. Old, moldy cake of course. A landfill under one roof.

I worked with a hoarder once. She was a sweet 83 year old and the car she drove to work was completely filled with garbage. Never went inside her house but you knew it was filled by the looks of it and the trash surrounding it. Sadly she passed away a couple of years ago. I often wonder about her house and she died.

Some of these houses are so crowded they attract vermin like mice and roaches and become "sick houses" in which the air quality is so bad the people living in them develop terrible respiratory diseases. This happened at my brother's house. The mouse droppings dried out and got in the air and made the air noxious to breathe. I suspect my sister-in-law died from it. Their house started with being a small home with too much stuff, then they became physically unable to clean it up.

My aunt was a hoarder. She had a laundry chute with a huge pile of unwashed clothes piled up in the basement all the way to the ceiling so you couldn't put any more down the chute. She turned her couch so they could throw their newspapers behind it into the corner.

One of the things that I do is house sit- I have house sat for 3 people like this, to varying degrees. Amazingly, they don't see it as a problem. One lady, I felt very sorry for, her pantry was destroyed, with food piled everywhere, and I thought I would clean it up and organize it for her, thinking she was so busy- it was perfect when I was done. She said nothing, but when I got there in 2 weeks it was torn apart, and she had to have done it on purpose. This house got so bad, she had mice everywhere, and they were skittering across my face while I slept, and I refused to stay anymore- just came to feed the animals and let them out. There were paths and if you brushed up on something, everything collapsed. She had a dead Spider Plant in the bathroom she had hanging there for 8 years, because she was emotionally attached to it. All of these people, without fail, houses are destroyed, and they can't find anything, but they seem to know if one piece of junk mail has been moved. They are attached to every single thing, and lose their minds if you get rid of anything. Another lady is an animal hoarder, and has been raided by our Humane Society 3 times, with $40,000 in legal fees on lawyers, and still collecting and breeding to this day- I had to stop working for her, because her animals are so badly cared for I can't stand it. I managed to get several dozen out of there, but she just replaces them. The third one is a hoarder of a different sort- she has a fantastic home, filled and stuffed with antiques. They are super dusty, but all in good shape, just stuffed in any space and nook and cranny, then the avon bottles and things like that. What I have gotten from all of this is minimalism!!!!

My grandma was a hoarder. She was not near this bad, but the basement and garage were full. The bedrooms were also loaded with stuff and then she would throw blankets on top of the piles so you couldn’t see what was in the piles. My mom and her brother ended up cleaning up the place. They sold it and got her a nice little apartment. She saved things in the apartment too, but not as bad as she had done in the house. I think because of this I have a tendency to throw everything out lol

My hubby's aunt and uncle lived in a house with a little path between the piles of stuff. She was mostly the hoarder. She canned food every year that never was used, had closets full of yarn for knitting and dozens if not a hundred afghans and lap blankets, and stockpiled numerous Valentine's chocolate hearts bought on clearance that she hid under the bed.

Brent, there was a mouse in the cabinet above the stove exhaust hood. It popped out on that top shelf as you closed the left hand door. That was crazy.

If it's a rural home, no one usually does anything about it, not even the health department from what I've seen with these places, and the elderly "aging in place", with relatives checking in on them.

A house 3 doors down from me was a hoarder house and sat unoccupied for well over a year full of stuff with 4 years of unpaid property taxes. The mentally ill elderly woman was moved out and it finally went to auction. I was able to get in and see it during dumpster #3 and chat with the guy who bought it. Amazing what was underneath as his group was clearing it out.

Brett i too find the Hoarding disorder interesting. Such houses can be very dangerous. I dated a man ,a very nice man. I discovered he was a level 5 hoarder. He was a compulsive shopper and bargain hunter. He had a 4 bedroom apartment stuffed. I didn't get to see it. He had a collection of cars in great shape and a few that were but because of the contents they were deteriorating. His car he drove daily he thought needed shocks. I pointed out they were fine yesterday. Until you loaded the trunk. Thanks for the tour

Hope you didn’t catch anything in there. People usually wear biohazard suits when they go into houses like that. Especially since there was a mouse in the cupboard. If there wasn’t so much trash in the basement that room probably would have collapsed even more. Thank you for sharing!

That place is seriously dangerous, wow. My step father was a hoarder. After my mother passed he asked me to help sort things so I flew across the country to help. I wish I hadn't. There were bags of garbage in the garage full of maggots and it stunk from mouse droppings. The ceiling was packed from floor to ceiling in the garage and when I'd take something out and set it aside I'd find it back in the garage. He was moving it back inside! The basement was the same thing. I found papers in the basement about my family history (which I now have). It was 30c outside and when my daughter tried to turn the air conditioner on he threw a fit and immediately turned it off. Even the poor dog wasn't being groomed. I left because there was nothing I could do to help. He bought a new house and hired a moving company. The moving company quit because of the garbage and his actions. It's all very sad and there's not much you can do to help. Oddly the kitchen, dining room, 2 of the bedrooms and living room weren't cluttered. He couldn't pass a garage or yard sale without buying something and putting it in the garage or basement.

I just love the videos that you post. I appreciate that a fellow Canadian is sharing this with us. Having a glimpse of someone's past and their home. And trying to figure out what happened or what the home would have looked like during its glory days. It is so sad to see homes abandoned. You may need to travel with some sort of hazmat suit (as a just in case) for homes like the condition of this one, so you do not get sick.

Hoarding is simply "padding the nest" so that emotional pain can be buried often associated with a loss. There is a fine line between collector and hoarder.

A bit strange, the kitchen was updated, that style of cabinets were popular in the late 90s early 2000s, but those appliances were definitely old, that may give a clue of when the hoarding potentially started. Something you forgot, what causes hoarding. Hoarding is usually caused by a traumatic event in one's life. My late wife's grandmother was an extreme hoarder, in some cases, her and her partner would buy sheds and trailers and use their old broken-down vehicles to store stuff in. The family could never really figure out who was the hoarder him or her. Now since she's gone, we do believe it was her, unfortunately her extreme event was a loss of one of her granddaughters when she was only two. Food hoarding is definitely a thing. The juice jugs in the bathroom, I think we all know what those were being used for, as hoarding gets worse and worse parts of the house starts to fail and it's usually the plumbing that goes first, then the Heat and the power usually never fails that's what ends up taking out a hoarder house.

I visited a place like that a few years ago, very similar with basement filled to the ceiling with trash. Very sad to learn of a person with a mental condition living on top of a heap of their own trash.

How sad that someone has got to such a stage in life that this is the way they think is OK to live. I think the best solution for this property is to just burn it to the ground - such a shame, but in reality, what is the alternative ? Thanks for sharing this with us. Take care 🙂

My one aunt was somewhat of a hoarder. Her basement was stacked from floor to ceiling with a walkway through it all. We always said if we digged enough we would find Roosevelt.

I worked with a woman who was always entering sweepstakes, contests, and had won a lot of different things. I knew someone that had been in her house. She said the house was packed with things with paths to get from one room to the next, no furniture to sit out lay on.

Holy cow. I can't imagine living this way. There's so much stuff. Never seen a hoarders place collapse a floor like that. The mold probably didn't help or basement got flooded. The thing i always wonder is how they manage to collect all this, besides the garbage.

So sad to see. Mental illness and addictions can result in this. My hope is that whoever lived here was able to get out and get the help they needed. On another note, I've watched many other explorers here on KZfaq and you are my favorite, I've watched every one of your videos! Thank you and keep them coming!

There are a couple hoarders in my family. Not to that degree with the garbage, but crazy quantities of stuff they largely don't need. Its so hard to know how to help.

Just insane. I'd have a panic attack in there and I'm a cleaning freak too. Like how do you shower or go to the bathroom or where do you sleep?!

I suspect the person who lived here must have been in very poor physical condition. There was no place they could use washroom or cooking facilities. I didn't see an outhouse or any place they could cook. I'm amazed nobody checked on them - or maybe people were scared of this person ? Awesome video, Thank you

My buddy and I are urbex explorers just like you. Only thing is we don't document our explores like yourself. The odd time we take pictures and what not but we don't take videos unless it's a really cool place.

My mother became a hoarder after my father died ,it wast as bad as that house .it took 2 weeks to clean it out after she passed. We found some pretty interesting stuff in the basement. Walking into the house you would have never known it was only when we opened cupboards and closets we discovered her secret

Awesome Channel! yup, a few "The Hardy Boys" hardcover books, 21 of the earliest books of the series of 58 were written by a Canadian, from Ontario , Leslie McFarlane

I know that people will always say that about old houses in this condition but it looks like it hasn't been lived in for quite a long time, like many many years. When people die their homes and property often goes into receivership if they have no other family around. Or it may be sold for back taxes, and in either case the new owner may use the house for "storage" but not actually live there. Yeah I agree though this one's somethin else all right.....

Living in the country and being elderly they didn't have a trash pick up like we do in the city. Plus maybe towards the last part of their life they had a hard time walking out to the bend to empty the trash.

This place may have been salvageable at one point, but no longer!!! I was going to tell you to go home, take a shower, wash all of your clothes including your shoes!!! Brent, I was happy to see that you wore your mask… please always be safe!!! Your life & well being is certainly not worth taking a video!!! Hoarding is a form of depression!!! We had a hoarder living across the street from us, no one suspected… her clothes were always clean & looked new… because they were, rather than wash her clothes, she had to buy new ones😂🤣 It’s sad though, I don’t know how her family lived like that!??? As evident by all of the stuff in his bathtub & shower, he didn’t bathe!!! There could be cat carcasses, as evident by the cat litter & as you stated, could be bodies in that mess😮 Very as!!! This house may have once been able to be restored, now the only option is to completely burn or demolish this property!!! Brent, thank you for sharing & risking life & limb to share this adventure with us! I loved it! Now I’m going to go & clean my house!!!!!!😳😣😖😩😝😜🤬

People do the same things to the house of their body. They make it to where any good and decent spirit wouldn't want to live there. No different than living inside a trash can. Glad you made it out alive.

The collapsed floor reminds me of an episode of Hoarders where the woman kept throwing her soiled adult diapers into the bathroom completely filling it and it started to rot the floor underneath
