As an engineer and engine builder in the past, that piston damage is negligible, it does nothing to the integrity of the pistons. Might create a hot spot but highly unlikely. If the ring lands are good and rings free to move it’s going to work just fine. Most likely just damaged in idle. Have opened Cosworth YB engines with much bigger valve contact marks and they were running fine and big boost.

that's why you need to read comment and don't trust what every KZfaqr says... he's a content creator not a professional doing that kind of job everyday. KZfaqr must stop thinking they know everything and start making some research before talking.

@@the.ghost.behind.u Err well yes you need to open it up after every season for service. Checking clearances, bearings, oil pump, rings, seals and so on. Building a race engine means you have race engine service interval. Same goes to all racing equipment, turbos, transmissions, safety gear.

Yes, I agree, as long as it is dressed, it would be fine. But at this level of a build I would change them. They would be fine in a daily driver low horsepower build. I would be more worried about the wear on the piston skirt. I would definitely double check bore size and piston size.

@11:10 Looking at what appears to be mild-ish damage to the top of Forged pistons what probably happened was they told the customer it has damage that appears mild-ish but not cracked or broken. So your options are we can either spend thousands and do a complete rebuild or we can replace the head, smooth out the piston damage and do a compression and leakdown test. If that tests and looks ok you dodged a bullet. I have ran forged pistons with way more damage than this without issues to get by until I could afford a complete rebuild. As long as they didn't crack or crush the ring gap/seize the rings forged pistons can take a hell of a beating and survive.

You get so excited about a few marks on the pistons. Nothing wrong with them. Take the sharp peaks off the indentations to stop any hot spots and all is good. Its a shame that some people will believe your lack if knowledge and throw away good pistons and waste money.

I had a piston in my stroker worse than that and it ran for seveal years made 480hp and 460tq at the wheels and had over 80k miles. It never lost compression, burnt oil, or gave me any tuning issues. If this was my engine I wouldn't be afraid to run those pistions again if it was a customer I would have second thoughts, as long as the cylinder walls or ring lands didn't take and damage I would run them.

It would be sick to go 2.2 or 2.4 seeing how the pistons could have miss shaped the cylinders. And since the pink car is a 2.1 would be interesting to have a different kind of build. Especially if u had a vvl head/correct piston combo, and the gen 2 garett you were talking about could be a ripper. Should have all the torque in the world, would love to see a 2.4 all dressed in yashio factory bits.

It kind of turned out the way most people thought it would. Because so many people worked on it and did repairs, not really sure who did what to it. The oil squirter would interfere immediately when it was cranked over, so they disregarded a bunch of steps. I think it was a good idea to rebuild, and it might turn out pretty good after 200,000 yen worth of parts and labor.

The rods and Pistons could have been weight balanced, So the Piston is in the right spot but it was matched with a piston from a different cylinder in order to make a balanced rotating assembly. I'm saying this for a numbered con. rod point of view.
