Lithium Ion batteries charge faster, hold their max voltage and current longer and are lighter than the old batteries. But what must be stressed is they need a Lithium Ion charger if they are the standard battery package shape.

It's not a good sign with under 9volt after charging, a test for mAh ect would be much better and resistance and so on.

Thanks for the comment. Lithium Ion is 3.7v per battery so 3 would be too high so therefore they use two. Most NMH batteries drop to under 8v very quickly.
