I purchased this knife as I was trying to find a proper knife to carry for six months on the Continental Divide Trail. I got to thinking about my ole BSA knife that had that I had as a young fellow. And hee it has a nice little(legal) blade and screwdriver and awl AND all the cans we opened with the can opener! SO, all these other fancy knives were forgotten and I’m taking this. I purchased same thing an-Uncle Henry. Thanks for the fun review.

Very nice . A useful, time proven pattern . A very nice job on the second gen. scales , and at that price ($ 22.00 +/-) a good value . I haven't owned a "camp" knife for quite a few years , it's time for another one . Great review . 👍

Ive always wanted a "scout" knife , so i went with the Boker sportmesser (stag) . Go big or go home right. A beautiful heirloom piece.

In two minds about this pattern. The hinge parts at the top and bottom, the contrasting brass and steel can be a sight to see but (in my opinion) this is a pattern that is affected by gapping where you might let it slide in other patterns. I'd be happy with that exact Scout knife (and I have three). They cost around £30 in this country, so does an SAK Huntsman and SAK never have gapping.

I dig the hollow grind. Nice and slicey the bottle opener is cool. I honestly like it. Good find.

You were lucky to receive a model without manufacturing defects. Then again I'm not sure that, given you were supplied with the knife by the owners of the brand, you received a random/typical sample. I have recently received a Schrade Uncle Henry Stockman. I got lucky and it's pretty good. Especially the sharp blades. However, one of the pins stands about 1mm proud and the ends of the bolsters and liners are very poorly finished. Sharp edges! Chinese quality control is still an issue. But for a cheap knife it's been excellent and has been in my pocket everyday since I got it. I like the pattern so much I'm now waiting on a German made Stockman I ordered. 3-4 times price. I reckon the best thing about cheaper knives is that you can try out a pattern for a while before investing in something much more expensive.
