If You Really Need One?
EFFECT OF WEIGHT OF MODIFICATIONS. Rock Sliders Vs Offroad Bumpers.
Both the offroad bumper and the rock sliders are equally heavy (~40kg), However, as explained in the rock sliders video, these custom built Rock Sliders are far more forgiving in terms of weight distribution because of it being spread longer across the body and more even Front-Rear Weight Ratio. Offroad bumpers offset the weight biased towards front end and would require understanding and compensation as explained in the video.

I felt like I spent time in a class room nevertheless I gained good knowledge about how to make decisions and what should be the criteria before one thinks to conclude any decision. Doc! Cheers mate. Would love a bigger rubbers. Was even tempted at times 😈 But further upsize is gonna chew into a lot of our train esp those notorious bearings. Gotta stay this size till I can figure the struts and axles out.

It good to see force Gurkha on after market high clearance steel bumper with winch compatible. The stock tyres comes with too much inner spacing, so it's not a bad idea to put on after market rims with a negative offset and also to give the 4x4 rig a wider stand which helps in off camber situations when off roading. India doesn't have good after market companies so after market support for 4wd like Gurkha, Thar, jimny, Isuzu d-max is almost nil. We need made in India high clearance steel bumper, winch compatinle, integrated 30 inch light bar, fog lamp, rear steel bumper with swing outs for carrying bigger spare, jerry can, traction board, trash bag, we also need a good quality, modular roof rack like rhino rack, prinsu rack etc.. It doesn't have to be steel an aluminum prinsu roof rack is one of the best in overlanding markets and it doesn't even need to drill the top of your expensive 4wd to put on a prinsu rack. We also need very good quality after market spot lights, A-pillar lights, led lights on side of the roof rack and good reverse light. A good quality dual spot light with after market bumper integrated lights, the rig headlight is enough for a night run, however on a sketchy or trails located on higher elevations an A-pillar flood lights is a good investment. Come on India lets start making our own after market companies.

This is some seriously good info. Well structured video. The bumper and other details were very helpful. I am clear that it's not meant for me if I end up buying a Gurkha. The luxuries other cars offer, although they are tempting, the fact that less electronics, lesser the point of failures, has piqued my interest in this vehicle. Not as expert as you, but I do enjoy getting my hands dirty.

Excellent vlog n info. One stupid doubt though, How about plug n play type modification for this bumper? Even if it taks 20 minutes for two person to remove the stock and add the offroad one??? Btw the grill on headlights looks awesome cool, you must have fabricated it for sure. Very well clean design. Now awaiting your suspension upgrade

@navehal1019 congratulations on being the first one to spot the grills. It’s another one of my custom builds. Thanks for noticing ! It’s not at all a silly doubt, it’s in fact one of the best questions I’ve been asked because I actually wanted to cover it in video.but edited it out due to length. Plug n play is ideal but not practical or possible in this case , because the mounting points I explained in the video for stock are frail and delicate and won’t hold up anything more than it’s own self weightZ //The off-road bumper on the other hand is mounted on and into the chassis and mounted in a way to become integral with the chassis so that we can do a proper winch out and recover the vehicle pulling at the bumper. It would not be easy to snap on and snap off because of this difference. I generally try to have as much as RTS (RETURN TO STOCK) as possible just in case I don’t like the modification or if I’ll effects spring up later then to help me to go back to stock. But sadly this bumper mod is a one way ride. No going back to stock now .

One doubt that I still not able to understand. May be you could help me. Why is Gurkha floor is so high. Is it is by design or machanical limitation? . I have not seen any other vehicle with such high floor.

Interesting question. You have come to the right channel. You have not seen any ‘modern’ vehicles have high floor, but think of SUVs which were built for rough road handling a even upto a decade ago, you will see high floors was the norm. Remember Tata Safari , even till the Storme generation? High floor.! Remember old Land Rover’s? High floor! Remember (still same design today) G wagen? High floor ! The reason these old boys traditionally came with high floor is for mechanical design towards rough road optimisation. Let me explain in detail in Tripaccino style - The high floor design found in older Land Rovers, especially in models like the Defender, stems from the vehicle's rugged off-road capabilities and chassis design. Here are some reasons for this design choice: 1. Ground Clearance:Off-road vehicles like Land Rovers need high ground clearance to navigate rough terrains without getting stuck or damaging the undercarriage. A higher floor allows for better ground clearance, ensuring the vehicle can clear obstacles like rocks, logs, and uneven terrain without scraping the underside. 2. Drive Shaft Angle:Older Land Rovers typically have a live axle design which positions the differential low on the chassis. This necessitates a higher floor to maintain a proper driveshaft angle between the transfer case and the live axles for optimal power transfer to the wheels. 3. Suspension Travel:A high floor allows for better suspension articulation when driving off-road. The increased distance between the ground and the chassis permits greater space for accommodating these. Any vehicles which were derived from these by inspiration or license also ended up having high floors ( like the Merc derived Gurkha ) In modern monocoques these are no longer design constraints with live axles gone and lesser suspension travel requirements.

@@tripaccino Thanks for your detailed reply. I know you are right person to ask. Please make video of this when you have some time. Lot of people including my self feel gurka will roll in offroad due to high floor and tall body. I took test drive 3 door gurka. I wanted to test drive 5 door but it was not available. After the test drive I felt like floor was to high to everyday commute. more over if I have to build it for offroad+overlanding, lets say 100L water tank, some spare parts, 12v battery, cooking and bed setup all inside car with 2nd and 3rd row removed, I felt like it is too heavy on the top and will roll over. I cannot think any storage on the roof. Other then that diff lockers from factory is heaven. I think I have to put reduction gears in my jimny to achive the low range crawl like in gurka. on third point I have not seen gurka having any better articulation then thar. If we put the same tyres in both gurka and thar, they both will get same ground clarence. because GC is limiting factor here. Am I missing anything here.

That was purely for eye balls. Was a Show stopper Gurkha. monster spec with heavy RFC style build. That ran custom portal axles and trepador tires

Horses for Courses. depends on What is the primary purpose? If you really need the flatbed to haul stuff or for extensive overlanding, then the pickup makes sense, else its not worth the trouble to lug around an empty bed everyday through life. 😁 The 5 door gurkha would be a more practical 'car' if thats what you need. (Provided you have gone through and chosen over 5D thar and 5D jimny)

@@Itsmylife_1979 Few questions to help me understand requirements better sir.- 1. what’s the budget? 2. Do you want a family car that can do some off-roading or off-roader that can move family? #have you tried the Scorpio N ? It’s the best all rounder today in my opinion., if budget permits you. I would choose it over even the thar 5 door. #If the Jimny comes at a shocking sticker price because of sub4m , it should be able to do all that you want and still be easy on the pocket to own and maintain, but will be a little tight on space . #The Gurkha 5 door is rugged no nonsense off-roader that can also practically move the family. It would still be the least on features and most simplistic of all offerings discussed , if that’s what you’re looking for . #I would not recommend any pickups even Hilux - unless it’s a work horse or a recreational weekender //because during normal usage it would be tight on space and sprung harsh on the cab occupants if the rear bed is not loaded.a real pain to drive around city and park the long body in tight spots. Please feel free to ask me any further questions
