My sister Sarah who unfortunately passed away in 2011 of cancer, had autism. She was so funny and innocent and just a little bag of happiness. She could remember phone numbers and dates with absolute precision. Her mental age was about 10. She was 29 when we lost her. I always asked for her advice on boys and life lessons because she would always say the truth! Even if I didn’t want to know. She had a gift. Like when a dog doesn’t like certain people.

I know all the details, I know all the theories, but every time somebody makes a new video about the Boys from Yuba County, I watch it anyway. I empathize with them. I have different disabilities, but they were still like me, disabled, they made friends with other disabled people like them they way I do, and the worry that they were attacked, maybe even for being "different", is a fear I know intimately. Rest in peace, Boys.

I got lost in a blizzard once on a hunting trip with my dad we were in separate parts of the forest and the snow came in so hard it was a blizzard and I couldn't tell where I was so I decided to get the burlap out of my hunting pack and wrap myself up and sat down for a while, cuz that's what I was taught to do. If you're in the forest and you get lost sit down for a while and gather your wits up.

One of the biggest mystery in the USA. They simply got lost, with snow you lose orientation, the brain has no reference points and loses space perception. They got out of the car thinking they were near of some safe place. They even did not realize how far deep they drove in this forest. That's the only explanation why they step out the car with no adequate gear for this harsh weather.
@nellywilliams2776

I was raised in Florida so I had no idea that snow can cause you to lose spatial orientation!!! I just learned something new today.
@danijuggernaut

@@nellywilliams2776 Worst then fog. Pilots experience this phenomena also. BTW, in heavy snow, you thing you are driving slower then real. This group was very far from civilization. They get lost walking in circle, the footsteps get quick filled with snow, after 50 yards they could not even find the car. I thing the following story was pure survival and the guy arrived to the cabin was so exhausted and deteriorated he couldn't even feed himself because of lack of force. This was 1978, but meanwhile after decades similar tragedy have happen in other cases.
@muskyman1018

But, it wasn’t snowing where they took off the wrong direction, that was later up in the mountains. But I do agree on the loss of spatial awareness in the snow, as a snowcat operator for 7 years this can happen even at very slow speeds.
@sharonthompson672
@sharonthompson672 3 ай бұрын
So true about getting disoriented in snow. 🖐️ Back in the 80's I thought it'd be a good idea to go for a hike to "spot deer". At night. In a snowstorm. With flashlights. 😬🤦 Deer bed down when it snows. We never would have encountered any deer. We were only walking "the perimeter" of a farmer's field. I thought we'd be out maybe 45 minutes to an hour. We wandered in the dark for hours and when we wandered out onto the long driveway that abutted the property, we were in the complete opposite direction we thought we were. The great creator takes care of babies and crazy people. 😳

Thank you for covering this case so thoroughly, it always baffles me, no matter how many times I hear it. I'm always sad that they seemed to all be doing quite well, and then...gone. What a strange and mysterious tragedy. Also, I know Gary had a rough record, but I think it's unfair that people blame him for hurting his friends, who I'm sure he loved, especially as his mental health was improving and his life turning around. Blaming it on the schizophrenic just always felt very demonizing of the illness, which it has enough of.

However, because "this" channel is covering the story, I am so hyped to listen to it again! And it's 42 mins long. Win. Usually you cover true crime (and your channel is *the* best true crime channel on KZfaq) but if you're going to dab into the strange and mysterious, man, I'll be watching this channel 24/7! The time you take to actually reaseach and read up on the material you cover is impressive and it's transparent in the work you present. Outstanding job!

Very peculiar indeed. Considering there was so much food at the camp its strange to lose 100 pounds and die of possible starvation complications - but perhaps the gangrene issue limited his ability/desire to eat and nourish himself while sick. Still, its altogether odd to leave the safety of a vehicle when you are afraid of the cold and dark, just after buying a lot of snacks, and wondering out into the snow, finding shelter and still not making it to safety for months.... Even with their disabilities, they sounded like capable guys who, together, were likely to get to safety as a team. Really baffling.

Silly question, did you cover up the last word of your catchphrase on the wall on purpose because you had to due to YT guidelines or something, or did it just happen to get covered due to your well deserved awards/plaques? 😊

There is NO WAY you are almost 50! I don't believe it one bit! Haha but seriously Jiles, ty for all your hard work. I sent you an email with a story suggestion. A Modern Alaskan Monster. Def a fresh story that, so far, no other channel has covered. Hope to see your talented take on it.

Wow! Yet another I have never heard about! Thank you again. I find it insane that they never found Gary? I think it was? Kinda odd to me. It’s sad that these boys family really got no closure, either. Pretty insane.

im glad you did this case. don't think just because something is so well covered in this genre on KZfaq we dont want to hear you cover it (like the watts case) you're style of presentation is different and unique from other true crime channels it doesn't matter if we've already seen multiple other channels cover the same story we want to hear you're take on it still.

Jiles, the idea of the guy with schizophrenia being the cause of what may have started this seems more likely to me but this mystery is up there with "Twilight Zone" in my opinion, really crazy out there! Thank you for bringing this to the channel, I don't recall hearing about this before.

I've never heard of this case. Thanks for covering it. Wow so mysterious. Such a sad way to go. I do believe the truth is with Gary. I think he got triggered, had a episode and forced the others into the woods where all tragically died of exposure. If only someone went with them to Monitor their trip. Absolutely heartbreaking. I pray the families still living get answers one day. May they Rest In Peace.
