Unveiling the mystery Jeep - Corvette Powered M38A1!

Here it is! This Jeep has been at my house longer than Luke has owned the Cream Puff CJ5. It’s been hard to not mention it or catch it in the background of my videos up to this point.
Kris and Luke worked together to buy this 1952 M38A1 and get it dropped off at my house while I was out of town, and Kris only saw it for the first time one week ago.
In that time, this thing has come an incredibly long way. It’s heading back to Dallas with Kris right now and so know he will get it fixed up and ready for the Rubicon Trail in spectacular fashion.
I was really impressed by this Jeep while we were out at TDS and I think by the time he’s done with his list of changes, it’ll be ready for anything.

Super cool! I owned a 64 CJ5 with a t18 back in the day. There’s just something about old jeeps that has always excited me. I’m so glad to have a group of friends that all had them now!

Nice M38A1. I may be mistaken but I was under the assumption that the M38A1 started in '53. For sure the battery box lid is '54 and later. Earlier than 54 would have 4 wing nuts holding it down. Maybe it's got a later body? Very clean though. I also have one with a 350, with an auto trans however. Kind of wish I'd gone with a 4 speed.

I had to google it, but production started in 51 with the first model being placarded in 1952. As far as the cowl and tub, I have no idea..

The m38 a1 speaks my language! My bros and I have, had similar jeeps. Do not use the sm 465, I did, and the twin stick t case will not clear the trans case with a short adapter. Run a Ford t 18, or jeep t 98 or SM 420. THE 465 IS HUGE! . My bro has a t98 small block combo in his m38 a1 fits much better!

I have a 55 M38A1 with a 67 283, SM 420,T18 transfer. Went from 5:38 gears to 4:27 gears and lock rites. Look at the axles close in that, I can tell the rear had been changed to a late model D44, the front may be a close knuckle D25 , if it was a Marine Corps Jeep, it had power lock axles in it, army Jeeps didn’t have the limited slip. I have had mine for 30 years and it is an ongoing project for ever and proof that I love it more than my 2nd wife. Still have the Jeep, but not her. And I’m better off like that.

The front axle is a close knuckle D27. The little jeep definitely scoots but it was apparent that the diffs were open once we got into the off camber and flexy stuff. Kris is buying master rebuild kits and lockrite lockers so we’ll find out soon enough what’s going on in there!
