You start playing crazy the longer you play a session. When you get a big stack, it almost feels like you want to give it away with risky bets. And yes, bluffing into three players is not a smart move.

He's just now realizing that tournaments are high variance and he might have 100k or 200k downswing before he binks again. Better players than him have gone on long dry spells. He honestly has no one to be upset with but himself. That 88 bluff was a mega punt and completely unnecessary.
@Hotobu

Yet some of the Rampage nuthangers are insisting it's a good play. I guess people don't understand it's possible to hope someone does well while also realizing that they are making terrible decisions.

I agree. The man sunruns so hard all the time that he legitimately thinks that's normal. He gets super frustrated after busting out of a tournament where he made several very big mistakes and I find myself wishing that I could explain to this kid that I constantly get busted from tournaments where I make ZERO large mistakes. That 99 hand? Shoulda folded to the flop raise. Calling that jam with the 88? Probably a losing call. That bluff with the 88? Very bad punty play. Meanwhile the guy forgets that he was all in for his life with KJ against 88 and binked that flip, got a full triple up with AK, and managed to do the same with QQ. It's like he doesn't even realize how easily he could have busted in any of those spots.

Bluffing in good spots is all well and good but stop overplaying mediocre holdings so damn much! It’s needlessly getting you in trouble in spots lower variance plays would allow you to go much deeper. It’s okay to bunt in the 3rd inning and not try and hit one 500ft every swing.

I appreciate you being so honest with the raw emotion. I also respect that you are trying to win these tournaments and not just cash. Going for the win each time, you will put yourself in some rough spots. I think these tournament blogs have been some of the most accurate grinding of tournament poker. This is what it feels like when you lose when you are trying to win it all. Keep up the grind and ignore any hate.

Feel that emotion at the end. Poker is a grind. Appreciate your consistent content, no need to apologize for keeping it real Ethan, the raw emotions, especially in that moment coming out of a roller coaster tourney, is completely relatable and understandable. Sometimes we all need reminders - it’s healthy to step back, do something else for that brings you joy, energizes your life, give yourself a little time to bask in your freedom…and then get back to the grind. Keep your head up kid, good luck and run good!

You should start some videos with a montage of the events you bought into and busted out of with the amounts, like in "in for $500 out in 460th place" and so on, so people get a feel for the grind and true reality of tournament poker. Or maybe give us an update on your net earnings as of recently, like you would at the end of a cash game except not just for the one session but for a series of buy-ins. Like all of October or November, etc.

ethan, love the vlogs, especially this one when you get real about the frustration of tourney poker. One thing about your hand with AJcc, vs the rivered set. I think thats a hand you should review and re-evaluate to see what if you should adjust your play in those spots going forward. You seem to have had all the pieces to make the right decision but you felt AJ was too high up your range to fold. I'd agree, but facing such a large river bet maybe you could adjust some % of the time? the check-call-bomb line from villain seems massively biased towards value and I definitely think you can save money in those spots when you think the hand through from villain's perspective. Best wishes going into the new year

Appreciate your authenticity man. I’d say just keep on studying and refining your tournament strategy. You’d be surprised at some of the ITM %s that top players have. It’s not necessarily about how often you cash but about your ROI at the end of the day. You’ve proven that when you do cash you can make a deep run and even win the whole thing. Keep on studying the film and stay disciplined throughout the tournament in spots like that pocket 99 hand (you know better). Love the videos
