STAN EFFERDING - MATT WENNING ON DEMAND SERIES HERE:
vimeo.com/onde...
So you're on Instagram and you see anyone of your most favorite lifters pushing 350 lbs and a nasty stack of chains along with it. This is not just for likes or of attention, there are great reasons to use chains in your workout regiment ASAP. In this how-to use chains video matt breaks down the science behind how chains helped him overcome sticking points in all areas of his lifts while using them.
So what are chains, well unless you live under a rock they're the type of weight that gets harder as you lock out your lift. Giving your body a new environment to work in allows for you to train your CNS and muscle systems to pinpoint areas of your lifts that are sticking points and find ways to set those new pr's. So do you need chains at a beginner level lifter all the way to world-class strength? Yes. As long as you follow these guidelines to using chains for benching or squatting you will be well on your way to making great gains.
So you're lifting with chains now and you're noticing that your shoulder pain is getting a little better, well this is a benefit for chains because when you are at your lowest point in the lift chains are the lightest, allowing them to give your shoulder a little more of a rest. A great way to keep the mileage down!
Thank you to all of our subscribers, we genuinely appreciate your support!!!
ALSO if you want to reach the next level find out how to fuel your body. Matt and Stan Efferding went in on nutrition on another video we just released. You can see exactly what The Mountain and Brian Shaw were eating to dominate the Arnold Classic 2019! Watch the video here for more information:

That last sentence was worth me watching that whole video “in order to lift heavier weight, you need to push the bar faster”. I often lift (bench in particular) very slow to get Time-Under-Tension but then I burn myself out... I need to lift a little faster in order to have a better/stronger work flow. Thank you

You can change chain length for different height lifters by setting for the tallest lifter then marking the other lifters heights with carabiners and shortening the chains that way.

Quick question on dynamic day I bench 80kg for 9 sets of 3 reps. If I have 2x 12kg chains, am I supposed to have 56kg of total bar weight? And the remaining 24kg be made up from the weight of the chains? Thanks for the video, great help!

Anyone have advice for first set of chains? 25lbs vs 45lbs?
@TheChosenOne2023

Thats a great question, I feel like if you Don't squat you won't need 45lb chains but if you squat seriously than its a good idea to get the heavier chains

Do you recommend getting into powerlifting at a young age? I am 17 and a big kid, but not the strongest. I am 6'4 260lbs, I have a 225 bench, 315 squat, 345 deadlift. I wanna get into competive lifting but I dont know if my numbers are competitive and I dont know where to even start. Any tips or recommendations?

What percent of your max lift should you use when training with the chains
@realSpiritualSense
@realSpiritualSense 4 жыл бұрын
You can use it for max effort so that’d be anywhere over 90% or you can use it as speed so anywhere from 40-60%
@rodrigodelgado4766
@rodrigodelgado4766 4 жыл бұрын
@@realSpiritualSense I go as low as 30% for speed sometimes and it works even better than anything over 60 IMO

I haven't found much use for them in speed work. I use them for overloading my intensity. For example: If you're doing work sets of 405x5 I might remove a plate (leaving 315 on the bar) for the last set but add 120 pounds or more of chains. This lets me know what it's like to walk out a heavier weight. It gives me the confidence to handle more weight as well. This way when I do add more weight (in plates) my body is familiar with it and mentally it seems like no big deal. Sometimes I'll even the same for max singles. Sorry but I don't have any percentages for you to go by. I just do it by feel. I want to be lighter at the bottom of the lift but heavier at the top compared to what I would normally do during that given exercise.
@ByeEvoX
@ByeEvoX 4 жыл бұрын
I only use them on dynamic days. IMO, if you do speed work and you’re someone who benefits from it, you’re selling yourself short by not using accommodating resistance. Part of speed work is driving all the way through the movement, so if you use 50-60% straight weight, you’re naturally slowing down at the top of the movement to prevent hyper extension - which is the opposite of what a power lifter wants to neurologically ingrain. Anyway, for myself (raw competitor) I wave squats at 55%, 60%, 65% plus 20% in accommodating for sets of 2-3. Deadlifts are also 20% but usually more straight weight and 1-2 reps. Bench is 50-55% plus 20%. I don’t wave the bench. Sometimes I will wave the deadlift in line with squats. Your exact numbers will vary as everyone’s strength curve is different.
