Fix your own dang truck. The funny part about this, is I was willing to pay a professional to replace this with glass but no one in my area wanted the job. So here I am again, figuring it out as I go. Par for the course on the Wildernest.

Looks great. I had to do the same thing for the back window of my last truck's topper. I used a special knife made for plastic and plexiglass that was next to the plexiglass at Home Depot.

Pick yourself up a Non-Ferrous Metal cutting blade from a company like Freud or Tenryu. We use a 76t for our skill saws and a 90t in the miter/tablesaws. Be slow to enter and exit to avoid chip out but besides that it cuts at about the speed of MDF. Moving too slow will melt the acrylic and then big trouble.

Great video! I did this for my shell on the front that meets the cab, I had no window and a rubber boot to weather seal, popped off the frame and messed up the first sheet but the jig saw ended up working for me

So i know on iff you place tape along where you going to cut and cut through the tape on wood, it will keep the edge of the cut nice and clean. chip free. I'm guessing that might work on plexe glass as well

using a pvc blade in a jigsaw will cut plexiglass well, throw less shrapnel and chip less.

Great Video I had a little trouble separating the bottom rail so I removed the rubber gasket after removing the majority of the glass with a small screw driver, then put a 2x4 block on the bottom rail at the corner and wacked it with a small hammer to remove the bottom rail. come right off with out damaging the aluminum.

The Milwaukee 3-inch tile works good to cut fiberglass, they sell a blade that is for plastic.

I'm trying similar but with 6mm polycarbonate - should be a bit stiffer and better scratchproof. From experience I've found you have to be careful cutting it and drilling it. I use a diamond blade in a hacksaw frame. And drilling neds to be through masking tape and with a drill bit with no bite to it. I've made enquiries about getting the size and tint. And what can they also do eg put a bend in it or drill holes - top only till I work out the lock and strut mechanism. Problem I have is getting the broken glass out of the bottom window seal bracket - it's siliconed in and a bugger to get out.

I didn't cut shell at all. That's actually the original shape of this Wildernest. It works well because it provides a few extra inches of sleeping room but still fits on a compact 6' truck bed. Stuff from the 90s is great. Thanks for the comment and question. Good luck.

If you use duct tape on top where u do your cut. It shoudnt cracked

What would you call the metal part at the top of the window? The upside down U? Ive recently purchased a canopy with the window broken/missing and it didn't come with that metal piece and I've looked everywhere but cant figure out the name of that piece so i can replace it

I’m doing a similar repair, but the plexiglass is not drilled into, rather it is attached and sealed in the frame with epoxy. Any thoughts on what specific epoxy I can use? Thanks for the video. New subscriber☑️

Honestly I’m not sure. My plexiglass is not actually drilled into at all. The drilling was only for attaching new rivets that keep the aluminum frame together and the plexiglass just rests inside of it.

I used e600, not much for an applicator nozzle on that tube but the stuff works good

Ca you install without taking the bottom frame out?I saw some like tool to flex it in?

With my door, there was no way to do that. And I think it would pretty difficult in any situation. The plexiglass has good flex over a length (ex. 5 feet) but not much for short lengths. There could be a special tool to help flex the plexiglass but I haven't used it. Anyone familiar with this?

Please help. Does anyone know what the name or kind of seal goes along the bottom edge? The seal that goes against the tailgate. My father's is wore out and I don't know what to search for.

What # gas struts did you use w/out cracking the plexi or creating bend to the frame? Thx

I started with 20lb. They worked alright but felt a little weak and failed about a year in. Then I bought 40lb. After breaking them in I felt they had the correct amount of pressure but they also failed. So I’m going to stop buying the cheapest struts available. The plexiglass has been installed for a couple years now with no breakage.

Do you remember the thickness of the plexiglass you used?

I want to say it was 3/16” or very close to that. I measured the gap in the frame of the door and was able to find the exact thickness match for the plexiglass at Home Depot.
