Thanks man, training with the strongest around makes me want to step it up! Really happy my body recovered well and I can still do what I love. I'm a simple man- lift heavy weight with friends, feel happy

You're not a complete hack, but you're still at a very intermediate level. If you stay dedicated and humble like me, one day you may achieve an advanced level of strength, but it's going to take some time.

Pete Rubish does it because it helps sort of clamp his hands shut which slightly helps with grip.

There is videos of him explaining that he is been doing the process of getting tight for deadlift for so long that it has increased in speed overtime and now is at a level that it looks like grip and rip when he is as right as can be

You waste so much energy and risk losing rigidness by spending all that time at the bottom of the lift, not to mention “locking air and creating pressure”

@@davidsaunders7118 I don't know what you mean when you write "not to mention locking air" (you mean like a diaphragm squash?), but for the rest I agree with you. But I find it impossible to tense lats and grab a hook grip and set butt down at the bottom (to avoid lower back emphasis) with a grip and rip. That's why I wanted the answer to this question...

@@peterleggatt3642 the stronger I got, the less time I spent “setting up.” By definition he’s not really ripping, if you watch slowly the moment he grabs the bar, it’s a smooth transition along with the slack(meaning he’s done his set up already.) and the squash is another way to word it, I get some air locked in through a deep breathe and use it to create pressure.

@@James_Edward59 While this is true he still made a 10 kg jump from 397.5 kg to 407.5 kg. So he could definitely make a small jump from 397.5 kg to 400 kg
