It rarely happens for me subscribing a video channel just by looking the first video. Thanks for sharing your experiences.Hoping to always have your experience regularly in future. I agree about not reusing same participants. Because of becoming biased view of users :)

Really enjoyed the way in which you explained both the pros and cons of re-using participants. Like most things in UX, the answer is "It depends on the context..." :)

Excellent points, David. I'd agree that always having new users is the golden standard. But due to the difficulty in sourcing users in the particular field I'm working on, I've decided that's ok to do it for new features. The rational being that our existing customer base is already aware of how the core of the product works, but won't be familiar with a new feature, so it's not an unrealistic test -- but the same participant won't be used twice for the same new feature.

I agree that it's a nuanced issue, it's not a binary Yes or No. I'm not saying you should never ever re-use participants in any situation. I think we can all create research situations where it's justifiable to re-use participants. But you do need to be aware of the pitfalls and design your tests to avoid them.

Hi David, thanks for this video. We rely on tools like usertesting to source participants. There even if we use different participants, they're used to usability testing and act as critics. While their natural verbal expression is valuable, I don't find them truly representative. Your thoughts?

I think every tool has its place, but I wouldn't rely on remote, unmoderated 'think aloud' usability tests as my only source of data.
