I answer the question, "I’m about to recruit a UX designer on my team. Is it important that they can write code and if so, what programming languages should they know?"
Have a UX-related question you want me to answer? Post it in the comments.

Great answer. I guess there's also one caveat, though: there are some types of design problems or hypotheses that are best tested with high-fidelity,

The illusive ux unicorn! This is a really good answer David - you provided a very good balanced view. There are analogies to this, in roles across multiple industries. I think just having an appreciation of the coder’s role is the sweet spot, but knowing how to code should never be a requirement. I’ve taught hundreds of undergrad students and I believe people are naturally wired towards either the design end of the scale, or the development end, with some (like you) able to sit comfortably and expertly in the middle. It’s empowering for a ux professional to have coding capability but should never be a requirement.
