"There's no better way to dismantle a personality than to isolate it" So much pain in that interview. It's interesting to see how shame and psychological isolation (pr isolation of any kind) can rob a confident person of their voice and power.

Diana was not really isolated, it was her perception or what she wanted people to believe. Diana's relationships with her family were often strained. She could have seen her family. She had mood swings and people naturally tried to avoid her when she was in a bad mood. She had difficulty sustaining relationships. At the time of her death, she wasn't speaking to her mother, her sister Jane, Sarah Ferguson, and Prince Philip. Diana was a very complicated person.

@@gardenroom65No he doesn’t. I refer you to the video by Lady Colin Campbell of June 13,2023 & the video of Sept 1, 2022. Lady C actually knew Diana & even wrote 2 books about her. Diana was no victim of the RF. She also had borderline personality disorder. Part of the problem was that she came from a broken home. In the end, Harry has also picked up some of his mother’s more negative traits.
@caffeinatedlagi Жыл бұрын
@@NatalieG427 Elaine you are full of bullshit, every comment you posted is updated with new lies it’s pitiful. Manipulative or not, Diana was too young when she was brought to the royal family and its politics, at the peak of digital camera and media while still having to raise her own children, without the support of her husband. She only did what she had to do to keep her own sanity and her children safe. We are not stupid, we don’t need one or two account spreading hate about her because there are countless touching stories about her. And why would you bring Harry or Meghan to a video that didn’t even mention her? You are obviously a troll with no better things to do.
@karlamccullough5319 Жыл бұрын
There are articles and books written about Diana's mental health. One of the books is Diana in Search of Herself by Sally Bedell Smith. The honeymoon was a disaster. Diana had unrealistic expectations even after Charles told her he didn't love her before the wedding. Diana was disappointed and angry. She was binge eating and purging multiple times a day and crying. She had a destructive outburst of anger and Charles was alarmed. He found a therapist for her before the honeymoon was over. Diana refused therapy. Charles had a number of doctors see Diana. Most diagnosed her with extreme depression and bulimia. One doctor diagnosed her with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Diana had many of the traits and symptoms of BPD. She was prone to mood swings, depression, bulimia, self-mutilation, jealousy, lying, insomnia, paranoia, and poor judgment. She made impulsive decisions. She would threaten to harm herself to get attention. She tried to commit suicide when she was pregnant with William. Living with Diana was an emotional roller-coaster. I believe Charles was sympathetic at first but became irritated by Diana's moodiness and self-destructive behaviors. Especially since she refused professional help. Their relationship became increasingly toxic and both were miserable before 1986.

@elainedavin1149 Lady Campbell always trashes Diana, always so I take your comment with a grain of salt. She's not here to defend herself so others do it for her. William one day will be king and he won't look favorably on people who do character assassinations on her.

Very great and interesting video. Mainly what I liked of Princess Diana's body language is that, for example in some of her interactions with the people, particularly while she was doing charity work, Diana's body language often reflected genuine compassion and empathy. Since she was known for her ability to connect with individuals on a personal level, and her gestures, such as touching and holding hands, conveyed a sense of care. But what captivated me most about her body language was how she frequently made eye contact with the people she interacted with, conveying a sense of connection and empathy. By the other hand, when Diana was often photographed in various settings and situations, her body language adapted accordingly to the moment. Whether if she was engaging with dignitaries, comforting patients in hospitals, or participating in sports, she displayed a versatile range of body language during her personal and private life. Also another characteristic body language that I love from Diana, was when she was photographed with her children, Diana often exhibited a protective and nurturing body language. Like physical closeness, hugging, and holding hands with her sons showcased her strong maternal instincts.

@ScienceOfPeople I don't agree. I believe Diana used the public media to her advantage. Diana was exceptionally good at gaining publicity for her assigned royal duties (charities) and herself. She created a very positive public image of herself. She said what she wanted people to believe, and it was extremely biased and one-sided. Diana was prone to lying to get what she wanted. She was a very complicated person. In 1981, Sir John Batten, the queen's physician, believed Diana had borderline personality disorder (BPD). She had many of the traits and symptoms of BPD. BPD is thought to be caused by childhood trauma and genetic factors. Diana was traumatized by her parents fighting and divorce. Her mother left when Diana was age 6. She talked about her unhappy childhood. She said she felt unwanted and unloved. Diana was emotionally neglected. Her brother was openly favored and she was compared to him. She was told she was the dumb one, and he was the smart one. Her self-esteem and self-confidence were undermined. Diana suffered from depression, low self-esteem, and self-destructive behaviors, including bulimia before she met Charles. I suspect Diana was self-conscious because she was so tall. I believe she tried to make herself look smaller because she was so self-conscious about being tall. She wanted to be a ballerina but she was too tall. Diana often towered over others and stood out. I suspect she felt awkward before she turned 30. She gained more self-confidence as she got older.

This is a really informative video. Could you read Michael Jackson's body language and cues from his past interviews?
@eezee57442 жыл бұрын
Besides innate temperament, I think her body language characteristics can be explained by her unsupportive relationship with Charles. If you have a supportive partner, they make you feel more secure. With an unsupportive partner, they do the opposite. Hence, the vulnerable and closed body language (even before they were married). Also, the contemptuous smirks is probably due largely to her yucky relationship with Charles. Diana strikes me as a bit manipulative also.
@NatalieG427 Жыл бұрын
Much of that was play acting on her part. Just as Meghan has been doing. I refer you to the videos by Lady Colin Campbell on her channel. One from June 13, yesterday & one from Sept 1, 2022. Lady C actually knew Diana & spoke with her on several occasions. Diana admitted to being the first bone to cheat with Barry Manakee. She also said she didn’t blame Camilla for the way her marriage went. The truth is Diana had borderline personality disorder. Meghan has read the Andrew Morton book & is trying to copy what Diana did in the past. But much of what Diana did, even in public was play acting. The stories the papers printed back then were lies in order to sell more papers. That’s why they never told what Diana did wrong in that relationship. Diana had many lovers. Charles only had Camilla.

I also think she thought that other members of the RF would back her and tell chaz to stop messing about and concentrate on his wife...but they didn't, I don't expect she asked them to, I suspect she sulked and flounced about expecting someone to ask...but they didn't. as a brit we don't really do feelings or interfer...we're even uncomfortable butting in when ASKED

Thank you Vanessa, this is an interesting analysis, but ultimately flawed. The pictures and videos we see of Princess Diana are highly edited and the very choice of what images to show was based on how the media manipulated her image. Further, she had image consultants and communications coaches galore. We will never know how much of her image was carefully curated (by herself, too!) and how much was her subconscious peaking through. I think most of her early "coquettishness" was artfully studied, as was her post-divorce confidence. In general, I'm convinced that the body language of public figures is a highly unreliable reflection of human nature. It is however an interesting study of image manipulation and how difficult (or easy?) it is to get away with it!

Diana had a love hate relationship with the paparazzi. By late 1984 Diana understood the value and power of the public media. She made connections with the paparazzi to ensure maximum publicity for her activities. Diana was exceptionally good at gaining publicity for her humanitarian efforts and for herself. She was the most photographed woman in the 1980s and 1990s. She was not a supportive member of the royal family. Instead she was competitive and even competed with the queen for public attention. This video is out of context. The video where Diana is relaxed is from the 1992 Peter Settelen's video called "Diana Revealed". Settelen was her speech coach and recorded her in order to help her see how she looked to the public. There was also a lot of casual and very personal information. I recommend watching it. Diana’s 1995 BBC Panorama interview was intended to hurt and undermine Charles. Diana was angry, her reputation was tarnished and she wanted to destroy Charles's reputation. In her efforts to destroy Charles's reputation she hurt William and herself. William was embarrassed and angry. He had better sense at age 13 to not bite the hand that fed you. Diana risked damaging the monarchy and William's future to undermine Charles. Diana was a very complicated person. She had many of the traits and symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Some of her body language is relatable to BPD.

Martin Bashir completely manipulated Diana for and in the interview. They were in talks with Earl Charles Spencer and made Diana think she was being spied on and have her phone bugged. I agree 100% The 1995 BBC Panorama interview was a bad decision. She was angry and intentionally hurt and undermined Charles. I thought the interview was quite the performance worthy of an Oscar. Diana wanted to destroy Charles's reputation and gain public sympathy and support for herself. Diana normally had a professional makeup artist do her hair and makeup every morning. Diana did her own makeup for the interview to look more pitiful. She knew how to use the public media to her advantage. In her effort to destroy Charles, she hurt William and herself. William was embarrassed and angry. He had better sense at age 13 to be loyal to the royal family and avoid undermining the family by sharing the family dirty laundry with the public. The interview prompted the queen to request the divorce. The queen had enough of the drama, conflict, refusal to follow the royal family rules, Diana's affairs reported in the tabloids, Diana's efforts to undermine Charles and the family, and the sharing of family dirty laundry with the public. Diana risked damaging the monarchy and William's future. Basically, the queen fired Diana for being disloyal.
