Dr Blake Bloxham of Feller & Bloxham Medical, PC (www.fellermedical.com) shares the third update of his experiment with verteporfin -- a medication with the potential to significantly reduce scarring and potentially generate hair follicles.
In this video, Dr Bloxham goes through the 2 and 3 month updates on all three verteporfin test patients, and presents and discusses what he is seeing thus far.

In his prior videos, Dr Bloxham describes and shares video footage from the verteporfin procedure day. Due to the challenges of working with verteporfin and the nature of the medication itself, Dr Bloxham wanted to try and test multiple variables during this study. He wanted to look at how verteporfin could affect a hair transplant (FUT) scar revision on a patient prone to physiologically wider scarring; he wanted to look at how virgin tissue that had never been operated on before responded to verteporfin treatment; and how a regular, average FUT scar reacted to excision, verteporfin treatment, and reclosure. Dr Bloxham also tried to leave in controls and certain safety measures like leaving areas of prior scar and only testing smaller excised segments, and also excising and closing sections of the scalp without verteporfin treatment (on the same patient). This would allow for comparison and help Dr Bloxham understand how the medication may be working.
After describing the patients and the variables evaluated, Dr Bloxham describes exactly how the treatment will be administered and also shares real surgical footage (video) from the procedure day. In this footage (which has been modified when appropriate for the entire viewing audience), Dr Bloxham shows exactly how the tissue was excised, treated with the verteporfin, and closed.
He then discusses how the patients responded to the medication, how the day went in general, and also how the patients fared in the post-operative period.
Finally, Dr Bloxham describes the thrill of trying this verteporfin test and outlines when we will see future updates.
