Years ago. I had to go to a crane parts store/Warehouse. To get a 5/8 cable for the rollback i was driving at the time and i got to see them braid an i ring and melted metal mold put around the cable. I think that size cable was rated for 10,000 pounds for dragging up cars onto the flatbed. 7/8 is for 50 ton wreckers. And dragging them out was hard. You have to get a running start at 100 foot and i mean run that is how heavy they are to get one line out. And ive done underwater Recovery in salt water. We just WD 40 the cables until they dry and snap over time. Confession of a tow truck driver.

What grade is it? Not all stainless is equal. Used some on my boat years ago that was supposedly for boat use. The rust stains about three months later said otherwise.

Lake claim it is three sixteen stainless but a has stromg magnetic attraction

@@CatusMaximus the most common grades for type 316 stainless steel are non-graded and grade L. The L stands for low carbon. 316 and 316L become magnetized during the cold forming process of making the wire, 316 lesser so than the 316L. 316L wire cable, while being more magnetic, is less corrosive. Because of Catus' claim of high magnetism it would be my guess that the wire cable is 316L and the better choice for marine environments.

Regardless the grade of the 316 stainless steel you may get some surface rust. Even 316L can get some surface rust depending on the environment, but it should stop right there, and the interior of the wire shouldn't corrode for a long while.

@@pjoneal12 In a marine environment, with quality stainless, you may see some white powder if you are not up on your bright work maintenance. The only time I saw stainless rust was with poor quality stainless or there was a problem in the galvanic bonding system.

You are correct I just tested it it's strongly magnetic. a block of three sixteen that I have is totally not magnetic I'll update the description

I have a question regarding wire ferrule crimpers with the Amp/Tyco 59500 crimp tool. By chance would you know or have an idea where i can find the die model # used to crimp 14-8 copper ferrules???. Ive been writing email to everyone but god trying to get a reference number but everyone thinks iam from Mars or something...lol no one has a clue what iam talking about even TE connectivity company. Thanks for reading!
