I live in Western Poland and I can't recall the amount of times one of these motherfuckers tried creeping up on me or someone in my neighbourhood. So glad I have my pet trimming, his name is Meatball and he saved me from almost being ambushed by a mimic. He couldn't stop crying so I went to see whats up and I saw a goddamn mimic in my hallway. Luckily that fucker didn't see me so I got out, locked the house and called the authorities. Had my house under quarantine because they couldn't locate it for like 2 months until they found it dead because it apparently got stuck in my basement and couldn't get out and ended up starving

@@foxpro3002 this and the practical effects on the other mimic video are so fucking compelling. The pictures of mimics hiding inside furniture scare me so much. They are fairly easy to spot but also really missable, they look stupid hiding but if you miss it you're dead, i find this idea way too compelling, and the practical effects for the mimics are way too good! I see people shitting on how mimics are written and on the practical effects for some reason, but the delivery on them being the first species that's remotely harmful and already being such a deep dive into a horrible monster works very well with me I don't really like anything that comes after the mimic except the harvester, they all feel way too disconnected like they aren't from the same universe, the first half being interesting fantasy creatures made of living flesh that blend in with the environment and have scientific information about them and uses, while the monoliths and the orb are just mystical stuff and look out of place, but the mimic is the best it gets, and i absolutely love the way they're written and how they hunt.

Something I really love about this series is that the tapes themselves feel realistic and true to the world. In the Instructions for how to deal with a mimic part, any other series would have included a step that says something like “close your eyes and accept your death” but that’s dumb and unrealistic. You have faith in how scary the material is on its own. And it is very scary.

lately i've been disturbed by nightmares and even sleep paralysis, so maybe watching this isn't the best idea. i'm a very fearful person in general, but i still consume horror media. it's my first time watching this, and it's really well written and enjoyable, so i can't wait to finish it. i really liked the cabinet part, it made me nervous. my heart was racing and i could feel my skin getting warmer, and i just froze. i couldn't get my eyes off of that scene even though i wanted to stop that feeling. that and the fact that it's nighttime as i am watching this made me feel anxious and i think it made me watch as if i was in the shoes of the person recording. when the mimic peered through the cabinet i couldn't process anything and it's as if my brain stopped functioning for a moment, and it only made the jumpscare have a more powerful effect unlike other medias that have predictable jumpscares. i knew it was coming, but i was still scared. i couldn't even stop the video to collect myself and mentally prepare to continue. this series will worsen my sleeping schedule for sure, but thank you for this wonderful piece anyways... DUUUUDE, you did awesome work with that hand prop. Even though the eyes and face were goofy and clearly a prop, the bending of the hand and the movement of the individual fingers were absolutely masterful. I went back to watch it twice! It was so realistic that I really felt like I was looking at a living being's hand. I had to view the previews (and spoil the jump scare) because it's midnight here and I want to sleep.

Tips on how to deal with the mimic: Shoot it with a shotgun loaded with incinderary rounds, its weakness is fire. Aim for the torso, specifically the stomach as there is little to no protection there. Alternativly, you can use a lighter and throw it onto the mimic. It should give you about 3 or 4 seconds to get the hell out.
@powerdude6835

not true, shooting them wont do anything. Mimics are not aggressive as long as there is a clear escape route for the prey to take. Do not use any weapons against it instead slowly walk on the escape route to not aggravate it any further. Stop spreading misinformation.

Just found your stuff and started digging into it a little while ago. Something I really dug about this piece was that section where it's mentioned that the mimics are only found in populated areas. Honestly freaked me out worse than anything else in this series of videos, for populated areas, California, a decent chunk of Europe and Asia, and a large portion of South America are left almost completely empty. Don't know if that's just me reading too far into it or not but I thought it was interesting. Are those just areas with the most mimic sightings or are entire chunks of humanity wiped out due to their coming? Just got under my skin, always love it when media does that to me. Good job, homes. Looking forward to the rest of the project.

South America is just jungles and Siberia is just forest and is too cold for large human populations. Just look at a population density map

Based on its predatory lifestyle, I say its a bit more smarter than a big cat and not near human intelligence. The fact that you can discourage an attack by standing your ground, facing it head on and such would indicate it hurts similarly to cats. Felids hate tackling prey head on and perfer a solid no risk ambush. Look up on KZfaq how a leopard stalks and preys on a sleeping dog. That's how I would imagine a mimic hunting a sleeping human. Theres no indication it can do any talking or actually establish relationship with humans to trick them. Even when they grow skin and hair, their facial structure is exactly the same. They simply cant talk with the way their jaws are.

I have to give props to that jumpscare. I find that analog horror falls short when it comes to actually teasing viewers with the monster, because analog horror is a very cheap genre in that it's medium is VERY low budget and is made by folks with low budgets - and that's how analog horror works best, because its cheapness is something that adds to the horror. But it's kind of hard to add high budget, realistic scares like CGI or something to analog horror and have it still be scary, because the two mediums don't always mix well. But your little puppet work was decent. It was cheap looking but still good enough that it felt immersive, and the jumpscare itself was so simple and fast that, well, the audience isn't really given time to criticize before they just shit their pants. I think the key was the build up! A lot of horror artists forget that building up tension is everything. You took great advantage of multiple strategies; you had viewers going "WHAT THE FUCK, TURN YOUR FLASHLIGHT OFF!" and "ARE WE SUPPOSED TO LOOK AT THE CRACK BETWEEN THE DOOR PANELS OR THE ACTUAL OPEN DOOR?" all while listening for the monster's movement. The fingers, too, were a good strategy, as it's easy to mimic realistic monster fingers, and so then you only had to show us a sliver of the face for just a second for the scare to be delivered! I'm a horror junkie and rarely scared but I ALMOST faltered and hid in the comments during that scene, and even though I knew it was coming, I did jump and gasp when the monster struck!
