I own a musket for mimic defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Imagine it. Four mimics break into my house. "What the devil?" I say as I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. I blow a golf ball sized hole through the first mimic's head, he's dead on the spot. I draw my pistol on the second mimic, and miss him entirely because it's smoothbore. I nail the neighbors trimming. In my retreat I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" I say as the grape shot shreds two mimics in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Finally, as the last mimic is panicking from all the noise, I fix bayonet and charge it. It bleeds out pinned to the wall as I'm waiting for the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

I really like how unlike most analog horrors where the advice against the monsters is “ACCEPT YOUR DEATH” or “LAY DOWN AN DIE” in a way to copy Local 58 or some shit like that, you genuinely can beat these creatures, since they’re still actually animals, even if they can easily kill you. It makes it more realistic

Local 58 could do that because whatever was causing all of that was otherworldly, we never actually saw it and what we did see was just some of what it could do. The analog horror series that are just ‘people but exaggerated’ always give some reason for why you can just hit them with buckshot, but series like Greylock, Local58, Gemini Home Entertainment make it clear these things are nothing like people.

To be fair local 58 was more of like a cosmic eldritch horror type thing like Gemini home entertainment, it’s something beyond our comprehension so really all we can do technically is lay down and die, but other series that aren’t based off of that concept I completely agree it makes it less realistic.

The creepiest/best part of this series is the fact that many of these videos are similar to a "What to do if you see a bear/cougar" type of video. It's not some eldrich horror that cannot be overwhelmed (well, aside from the Monoliths); it's a creature with known behavioral patterns that can be exploited to improve your odds of survival. With the exception of the Harvester (which can just be avoided), all of these threats are survivable with preparation and knowledge. Dying to a Mimic or Host is akin to being mauled by a bear or cougar- it's a rare occurrence that people think won't happen to them and therefore never prepare for.

I love this update to the mimic lore. It makes them less 'unstoppable invincible monsters' and more 'scary but grounded predators'. The ability of potential prey to fight back or get them to leave with a threat display makes them feel more like real animals. But they're still super scary because of how they can stalk, hide, and catch prey off-guard.

Makes me remember that one time when me and the boys were intentionally camping the house at night to hunt down mimics. One time something knocked on my door and me and the homies got the remmys and got downstairs. When we opened it, there was it. A tall figure, red and confident for its meal, but not today. Me and the boys immediately threw bottles at its kneecaps and one of us kicked the mimic right in the chin. Then, we all toppled over it and started bustin' the hell out of that mimic. It was screaming until a shell went in it's head and it died. Me and the homies talked about how fun was it, so we camped another day. Then, we heard a window break. But this time we suspected it was an Elder Mimic so instead we were goin' to bust that charman using the plastic explosives we ordered. Then we searched for it and there... a brown face was in the dark, in the kitchen. We all threw the bombs at it and even though our kitchen was ruined, that charman blew up into pieces. That ain't all, another time i was with my M240, not gonna lie that thing was expensive. But it all was worth it when a disguised mimic came to my door. Before i opened the door, i told that piece of meat " Let's see how you shapeshift after i shoot 150 rounds into your flesh. " and busted the door open and started firing my M240. I targeted it's kneecaps and chin, heck... the thing ran away before i wasted em. After that tho, we camped so much the mimic sightings in our neighborhood disappeared. Wish those meat skeletons were still here, so me and the homies could bust more.

Here’s a tip that I learned in film class, a common strategy used in low budget horror films filmed from a first person perspective , is to make the monster only visible on screen for a second or less, so the costume or whatever the monster is actually made out of doesn’t have time to reveal itself as such, and will leave the mind speculating on what it actually saw, making the funky looking costume much more geniune in the mind of a viewer, I think you did that fine during the scene where the mimic breaks down the door, but all other uses of the costume on screen draw attention to the flaws in the costume, I would also like to say that I feel the build up to the eventual chase is way too long, and sure creates suspense early, but after 2 minutes of casual conversation while walking leaves me personally very bored, but overall I think this is pretty good, and don’t take my critique too hard, I still think this is pretty good stuff 👍

I think out of all the Carnis, the mimic poses the most threat to humanity, the hosts aren't a problem due to their rarity, the monoliths do nothing, and everything else is harmless or easily avoidable, but the mimics actively hunt people, and are good at it. But their weakness seems to be urban environments, in a place where there could be teams of people who's job is to check who is and isn't a mimic, they won't be able to hide in plain sight and could be terminated easily.

Reminds me of my first mimic encounter not that long ago. My Uncle Barry and I were home watching the England vs France game, and in between Uncle Barry screaming at the tv and punching holes in the wall I swear I could hear knocking at our door. After Uncle Barry finished his 27th pint of the night, he heard it too. "I'm in a proper steaming mood yeah if its them fackin jerhovis witnessers I'll go fackin mental" he said to me as he got up to answer the door. Then I saw it. A skinless crooked man stood in the open doorway. Before it could attack, Uncle Barry burped in its face; his breath so alcoholic that the mimic reeled back in shock. Uncle barry then asked "you a mimic guv?' before headbutting the creature in the chin, knocking it to the floor. The full weight of an obese English uncle came crashing down on the mimics' legs as Uncle Barry toppled over on top of it. Pinned down, the mimic could do nothing but scream as I called 966 and 11 minutes later the creature was dispatched by local services. Uncle Barry can personally attest to the fact that the best 2 places to hit a mimic are its legs and head. Very informative video.

Tip#1: HESH and Anti-Infantry rounds work best and a tunnel boar will get the job done if said mimic survives. Tip#2: A Hydrogen bomb or laying a field of mines will take out multiple mimics. I feel like it would all depend on how well mimics can understand human speech patterns and use learned words in context. If they can only make sounds and repeat sentences they have already heard, but can't construct new ideas when asked a question then it would be fairly easy to spot a real mimic, so calling a person or even a group of people a mimic as a political tool would at least be ineffective in heavily populated areas that get a lot of mimic activity. In more rural areas I can see it potentially emerging out of ignorance or lack of knowledge of real mimic behavior. Or if mimics are just as good (or even better) as humans at recognizing patterns and using language, then I can definitely see a mimic scare sweeping through western nations.

It took until 16:00 before I finally realized this is taking place on a version of Earth which isn't familiar with _Vita Carnis_ - I'd written off the lack of creep as a budgetary matter, but the total lack of awareness that grisly cannibalized corpses = mimic activity seals it. Funny thing is, mimics probably wouldn't be that much of an issue in the modern day. The fact they wear multiple layers of clothing is already a sign. Gun control laws would likely be less strict, so more people could at least own a handgun Automatic home security (cameras, alarms) would likely get better, and could even be a basic feature of houses. High density housing would likely become more popular. You'd be far more likely to hear your neighbor almost getting chomped in an apartment or duplex than a single house. (Not like single people can even afford houses anymore lol). We already have technology to send public alerts to phones, televisions, etc. of mimic sightings or possible hunts. The only people elder mimics could threaten are those in the country. Sure, meeting one would absolutely be scary, but the scarier thing is how well/fast we as humans could adapt before it got out of hand.
@APPLE-kg2nl
@APPLE-kg2nl Жыл бұрын
They wouldn't be, you're right. Mimics would scare the hell out of people trying to further expand into undeveloped areas though which is what I think the point of these meat creatures are. The real danger would be harvesters and hosts with mimics as more of a scare tactic and because they all spawn from the crawl there would be no feasible way to get rid of them due to it spreading to every corner of the globe. These aren't creatures you can just wipe out with the knowledge we have. We would need to eliminate the crawl itself and the most feasible way I can think of would be bioengineering a micro-organism to not just prey upon the crawl but completely destroy it wherever you deploy it sort of like how scientists now are trying to engineer microbes to eat plastic. (But good luck doing that with people farming the crawl.) The solution for monoliths and the singularity though? No clue since they are essentially magic and I think they are the solution for us.

yeah i when i saw the costume i couldnt really take it seriously, one thing i would suggest for them to do is make the overall costume bigger, like way bigger, since mimics are sort of seen as being taller, and doing that would allow for them to make the mimic look skinny and bony, since proportionally the shoulders, head, ribcage, and pelvis would be way bigger than the human body, the fleshy details can be pressed up against the actors body to sell the whole monster look

In the video on the entire Vita Carnis species that predates this one, they talk about how the mimic has 2 final metamorphosis transitions, those being, the one where it adapts to be more like a human (in the case that it has a steady stream of food) and the Elder Mimic (this one resulting from an over abundance of food) they also say explicitly to hide in low places as a mimic will not linger in a place in search of food and to not use any weapons you have, but rather to use them as shields to block any incoming attacks from the mimic. Billy is a League of Legends player, he has been in hell elo for over a month and "he" has just lost his fifth game of the night. The moment Billy feels the touch of the creature, something just snap, something inside of him, he quickly turns his back and elbow strike the creature in the jaw. The creature falls back but Billy was quicker, he grabs the keyboard and rip it off the desk, smashing it to the creature face. Making it falls onto it knees, the mimic was in shock, it doesn't understand what just happened, the prey don't fight back in its previous hunts, not as fierce as Billy. The beast stand up and lunged toward Billy, he jumped out of the way and ran to his ultimate weapon. I think something a lot of people have sort of picked up on but not said fully is that while the mimic is incredibly scary on paper, it’s kind of got this counter intuitive hunting style. It needs high density population areas to hunt, but it also needs victims alone because it’s easily overpowered. I think that helps lend a lot of weight to why humanity isn’t too scared of these things and let’s the lore thrive more, the only places it can hunt are also very bad for it to hunt in.
