"The third movie is always the worst."
NOTE: As some of you pointed out, the mutant cage fight was in Germany, not Russia. Of course Nightcrawler is German, so in hindsight I suppose that should've been obvious.

2:11 There’s a deleted scene with Cyclops, Jean, Jubilee and Nightcrawler at the mall that shows people reacting to Nightcrawler’s appearance. Instead of freaking out, they’re more like ‘huh, neat’, which I guess is because in the new timeline, mutants are more visible to humans and most of them have probably already seen mutants (likely on TV).

I remember Jubilee getting somewhat shafted in the first two films. First she was cut from the film and in the second film, she was a little girl as he is one of the six children captured and then several scenes later she is much older.

There is actually a reason why Apocalypse has so many different powers that he seems to just pull out of no where. In the comics, Apocalypse had none of the tranformation powers you see in the movie, BUT, he had access to VAST amounts of technology left behind by these Alien beings known as the Celestials, and access to highly advanced future technology left behind by the time traveling Avengers villain known as Kang The Conqueror, that technology allowed him to transform himself, and other people into badass super soldiers like you saw in the film. Apocalypse met and fought Kang during his time in Ancient Egypt, when Kang became a pharaoh known as Rama-Tut, he eventually seized most of Kang's technology, which he opted to use himself, being able to transform people into super mutant weapons. He turned himself into a super mutant after implanting vast amounts of Celestial technology into himself. When they adapted Apocalypse to the film, they obviously had to omit A LOT of stuff from his origin in the comics, they had to omit The Celestials and Kang, because for one thing, those characters are part of different marvel properties that Fox doesn't own, and another thing, that would have made his origin, INCREDIBLY hard to follow and digest for audiences not well versed in comic book lore. So instead they basically made him into a video game character on God mode. It was kind of a catch 22 for the filmmakers honestly, they could either spend obscene amounts of screen time making up a new convoluted origin for how Apocalypse gets a lot of his powers, while making him like the comic book version, or just re do him altogether and make him utterly unrecognizable to X-Men fans.

To the best of my knowledge Apocalypse is a mutant who is immortal and has the ability to mould and shape his body along technopathy but a lot of his powers come from the possession of celestial super technology. Like anything in comics it subject to change with out notice.

It doesn't make more sense in the comics because in the comics; Apocalypse doesn't transfer his consciousness into another body. Apocalypse has a prolonged life because he found technology from extraterrestrials known as the Celestials and he uses it but was warned they would collect a debt from him for doing so in the future.

Yeah, Dark Phoenix flopped. Obviously. The whole Striker/Wolverine part of the film was two part fan-service. They wanted Wolverine because Jackman's contract was running short, they wanted a Quicksilver slow-motion scene, because it worked so well in the first film, so they had to come up with something that satisfied both.

@@marccolten9801 What's especially annoying is two of those endings are Sam getting married and Sam with his young children. Did Sam just get married because he'd always meant to and just remembered he liked that girl while they sat on Mount Doom? C'mon! In the book all the hobbits proved themselves back home when they used their experience of warfare to fight off the goblins that had taken over the Shire while they were away. Sam gets married having proven himself a hero. A culmination of his story, not a bolted on additional scene seemingly just padding the runtime. Why did Jackson insist in skipping that final section of the book and replace it with them all jumping on a bed? I will never understand...

Pretty much my thoughts as well. I did not hate it as much as I expected to, and actually thought it was a pretty decent movie overall. The fact that the writer is the same from The Last Stand makes SO much sense, now that I think about it, and I absolutely agree about the age thing. There was a line Mystique said on the plane on their way to fight Apocolypse, and I forget exactly what she said, but it had something to do with apparently how old she was, and I looked at her like she hasn't aged more than a day, she cannot be that old. Maybe she keeps herself young with her powers, I don't know. I think she said something like "When I was not much older than you, I used to run around with my friends and we were the XMen." And I'm thinking you are not that much older! Also she was in East Germany when she found Nightcrawler. I think her reason was, and she tells a bit of this to Charles, that she is still out there fighting in the "war," so maybe she came for Nightcrawler but left wanting to stop the cage fighting.
@CinematicExcrement
@CinematicExcrement 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Mystique not looking older I can understand since she's a shapeshifter. But for everyone else it makes no sense. And in hindsight, I should've known they were in Germany. Nightcrawler's German. Duh.
@bandotaku
@bandotaku 8 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness, hi! Exactly. Still an important point either way.
@xgray2012
@xgray2012 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I guess. I mean, personally. They could've done something more about the whole "aging" issue for the First Class cast and yeah, they really should've just dropped some hints about Nightcrawler being Mystique's son and Azazel being his father, but, oh well. I guess we'll have to make do with what we've got. But, yeah, I agree. I mean, X-Men Apocalypse isn't technically a *clearing throat!* "bad movie". It's just kind of a lack-luster finale in comparison to X-Men First Class and Days of Future Past. But, hey!!!! I still enjoyed this movie. I mean, granted it's probably not my favorite among all of the other X-Men movies, since those titles belong to X2 and Days of Future Past, obviously. But, it was still a lot of fun to watch, regardless. And yeah, I'll probably get the Blu-Ray/DVD release of it. Or, if we're lucky, we might actually get a director's cut of the movie just like the extended Rogue cut of Days of Future Past. Either way, I know that there are some good scenes with Jubilee's character in it that didn't make the final cut. So yeah. Let's just pray and hope that something good does happen for the X-Men franchise in the near-future. Still, great review, dude.
@xgray2012
@xgray2012 8 жыл бұрын
For once, I agree. I mean, I too can't break myself down into not wanting to like this movie. I mean, granted that it's not the *worst* and it certainly isn't the "greatest". But, it's actually a pretty good movie. The only downside for me is that I'm gonna have a very hard time trying to deviate X-Men Apocalypse as a standalone movie without trying to draw any connections to both X-Men First Class and Days of Future Past. And vise versa. But, oh well. I'll see what I can do.
@xgray2012
@xgray2012 8 жыл бұрын
Although, I will say that I'm gonna have a hard time trying to deviate this movie as a standalone movie, because well almost everything in the X-Men cinematic universe is no longer canon with one another and it kind of feels a bit dis-jointed now since it's all over the place. But, who knows?! I mean, I have seen better movies where they literally do feel like actual standalone movies. So, I'll see what I can do.

My issue with the "Sweet dreams" scene was that it cut into what should have been a powerful and emotional scene, which was mentioned at 19:30 to 20:14, but before we could really even grasp what had happened we got thrown into the comedy scene. It took away from the weight of the previous scene. I mean, they tried to get back to that weight and emotion after but it felt like it was too late. The moment was gone. Don't get me wrong, "sweet dreams" was still funny, as was mentioned in this video, but the timing could have been a lot better.

Okay first take your brain out and go with the flow, since its a Popcorn Movie. Now I liked Magnetos character in this you have to feel for the guy losing his family with a nice mutant power. And agree keep Phoenix bottled up! And the reason Apocalypse needed the Four Horseman to protect him during transfers since he is vulnerable ,clearly, during that process. The first time it was interrupted by the pyramid falling on him! The second time showed again the need of the Four Horsemen.

I really wish Bryan Singer would just give up on trying to do Phoenix Saga properly... I mean since when is the Phoenix just Jean's mutant gift anyway? The studio certainly has the right's to take liberties but this is a liberty they really didn't have to take as it's a change that doesn't really add anything to the story. I didn't really think they could make the idea of having mutant powers LESS believable as they were in the comics, but they succeeded! :P

But based on what critics say, this unfortunately IS NOT one of them. I don't work at my local theater anymore, so I can't just get free passes to movies and not worry about spending money on a potentially crappy movies nowadays. Days of Future Past would have been worth some of my money in the box office, but I still ended up buying the DVD. Deadpool got my price of admission AND the Blu-Ray. This movie will get NEITHER of those. And I know it's a long shot, but seeing as it didn't perform as well at the box office as they hoped and Civil War has already grossed over a BILLION in just a month, like Sony and Spider-Man, maybe this will open FOX's eyes to the idea of collaborating with Marvel to salvage their franchise. #UnitetheUniverse

This is one film after two successful x-men films. They don't marvel. At this point with the MCU it's impossible to integrate mutants and unless things have changed since I lost total interest in Agents of Shield they're using inhumans instead of Mutants. It would be really redundant to have inhumans and mutants feared and distrusted.

+Grady Childs Marvel Studios has proven that they can accomplish the impossible in the past. They managed to work Spider-Man into the MCU when we were sure that Sony would hold onto him forever. They turned SEVERAL B and C list characters into household names and created the template for a shared cinematic universe that EVERYBODY is trying to mimic, but can not seem to get about as close to pitch perfect as they do. I don't know how, but if they can get mutants back, I trust they'll find a way to make it work alongside the Inhumans. #UnitetheUniverse

The reason why Stryker came was because the world's missiles were released into the universe after Apocalypse took a hold of Xavier's brain. Stryker said that the source of the mutant energy for this event came from the school. He then captured Moira, Mystique, and Hank because he wanted to get to Xavier. That's why they came to the school in the first place.

Sophie Turner was terrible as Jean. She was a plank that kept falling in and out of her accent. She's proving that Sansa being either moody or depressed all the time is just masking a bad actor. She was almost certainly hired because she's recognisable and... oh yeah, has red hair. I lament that she'll be the main focus if they do dark phoenix.
