I find this strange, but why the saddest song of every artist is the one that makes us listen their music? These are the songs that made me fall in love with these artists. Lorde (Liability), Sia (Elastic Heart), Faouzia (My Heart's Grave), Coldplay (Viva la Vida). Imagine Dragons (Demons) and the list continue to grow.... Probably is because we connect through the message of those songs and we feel identified

She was a drug addict for a long time. I think that corrupted her voice a bit. If you listen to her older songs like "little black sandals", "soon we'll be found", "day too soon" etc you can see the voice is smoother and she's using more open vowels. Anyways I love her voice both ways. So soulful and full of passion. That's what makes it unique.

she covers her face to show that appearance doesn’t effect the voice. :)) it is also because of her past with substance abuse. when she wrote “breathe me” she was going through a really rough patch in her life. he partner had passed away, she also had the substance abuse on top of that. so she decided to be less recognizable.

Sia grew up with parents who were/are both ( Mother & Father) professional musicians, vocal teachers, song writers, singers, performers, artists and are super multi-talented in the music industry. Sia is a chip off the 'ol block, so to speak and she is a true Genius & Legend. Musically, She is a Super Genius. As to your question, why she use/still does sometimes hide her face. Though many stories are out there, I watched a extended interview on Sia where this question was answered. She basically responded that it was sort of a joke initially, but said something along the lines, that she never really wanted to be famous, that she just wanted to get her music out there to be heard.....and that she appreciates, likes her privacy, being able to walk into any store and no one knowing who she was, being able to walk anywhere she wished, and not being followed, and recognized, free to do whatever she wanted. That the hidden face, allowed her to do that. I too had heard the story about her having stage fright, however, this was her explanation in that particular interview. She values and appreciates her privacy in her personal life. She is by far, my absolute favorite singer, song writer, musician, recording artist and her talent is limitless. Every song she sings, writes, reaches into my soul, and moves me. Takes me through her stories being told within her songs, and her voice wow, completes and speaks to my soul. I feel her, really see her and just get her personality and same time I also feel I can relate to her in a kindred kind of way. I have the utmost RESPECT for her. She's not just another singer, Sia is the REAL deal, in everything she sings, writes, performs and in everything she does. She is a Legend, a Super Genius with an AMAZING & BEAUTIFUL heart, soul and personality. She is THE BEST.

Sia’s voice ALWAYS gives me goosebumps. I have a theory about her voice being so huge....I think she has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (I have it and I saw lots of signs of it in her, especially the way she can curl her fingers backwards) so her vocals cords which has the abnormal collagen (we don’t make it normally) is much more stretchy than that of someone without a connective tissue disorder.

Partially. She did it after going through rehab for addiction. Also because she was diagnosed with Graves' Disease, which changes the facial structure, such as bulging eyes and larger, drooping in the cheek muscles. I believe she may have had a reconstructive surgery done recently to reduce the effects. The issue with that, however, is that those surgeries could worsen future facial changes. Anyway, my point is that she has started showing her face more recently, so that's just my thoughts on it. As someone with the disease, I find it great she's showing herself again. It gives a lot of us who do have it more confidence. Hope that helped in some way, maybe gave you a lesson on something strange for the day, lol. 😊

I know you've gotten loads of comments about her hiding her face, but I think it's more nuanced than many have said. Yes, she's said a big part is wanting to be able to go to the store and not be recognized, and for people to focus on her voice, not her. But, she's also said about how before, she was a major addict and an absolute mess and was someone that she now no longer recognizes. Part of her wanted to leave that person/performer behind. But not only that, she said she used to perform while intoxicated and isn't that singer anymore anyway. So, kind of like a, "Sure, you can Google my face, but you won't find ME in those pictures". Moreover (and this is more of what she's alluded to but I'm unsure if she ever said it in plain English), I believe it actually *does* have to do with an element of performance anxiety. ...anxieties that she _used_ to be able to anesthetize with drugs and alcohol, but now has to face head on, sober and clear. And, if you ask me (now this is actual speculation, not from her), part of me even believes that's why her vowels have gotten so much tighter and closed since the older performances. Those nerves and the anxious energy creeping in; no longer as loose and relaxed from alcohol, her mouth not falling open as far and uncontrolled. The current way suits her style wonderfully, so it's hardly a negative, but I do feel it lends credence to her still having unmanaged stage fright and now trying to navigate live performances sober. Additionally, while I know she's an interpretive artist and has always had elements of quirk on stage, I also believe that's why she's gone much harder on the "weird factor" in dance/costuming/props. ...bc you pay more attn to Maddie/the other heads/etc and forget to ever even pay attention to her. Which, could help her convince herself "Hey, I'm just in the studio, no one can see me", instead of the stripped back, bare and vulnerable Sia she used to be when using drugs and didn't care. (It's also why I don't believe it's just, "I want people to concentrate on my craft, not me. Bc the dances, etc distract you from not only her standing there, but even her voice. You're too busy trying to figure out what's happening on stage and can forget she's even singing for a second. It seems that's more the intent right now, until she gets more comfortable sober.) Much to consider. Hope that helps!

I have an issue with this idea that that part of her singing is some sort of imperfection. It's obviously very deliberate

He has. I don't know what video it's in though because it's not titled as such. It was a while ago.

SIA has the most distinctive voice. Her vocals make me happy I have ears. Her voice were once jazzy and now more pop, both being capable of amazing runs and highs. Sia started wearing the wigs and performing with back to the audience with 1000 Forms of FeR album. She did not wish to be recognised and become famous. Performing had always made her anxious anyway and since she had decided to give up the grog and drugs, I imagine she felt even more vulnerable. Still avoids the paps, but more relaxed. No more touring for her I imagine which is very sad but if it keeps her happier, fair enough I say. Also check out Jessie J's new music after 4 years R.O.S.E. What a voice!!

I love it how she sings in a way, where even if her voice cracks it still sounds beautiful, it’s kinda a style nobody else can pull off it’s fantastic.
