Great work Rob and I'm like you that I don't even bother to have rotors machined. As they are not expensive, I just replace them too. Have a great weekend!

Thank you Sir! I'm working on our C70 now....it has the brake hose and parking brake cable in the way of the top bracket bolt....cuss words here..... I had to go get the compressing tool. First time ever a C clamp wouldn't compress the Piston....

I love the sound these discs make during the first few applications... some time back, when that was a new feature, I failed to fully bed the pads & discs. Had a customer come back (right after leaving) complaining about a grinding noise. Oops!
@OneAuto

Yep the sound of satisfaction! I prefer them with the primer on cause you can actually see when they have bedded in fully.

Volvos was even more popular before, now it's more diverse. But actually Volkswagen golf is the best selling car in Norway. And we have a higher number of electric cars compared to the rest of Europe. They have no taxes on them. But i prefer cars with a proper engine.

Great video! I have the same car, and when I changed the rear pads, unfortunately, I didn't have the piston winding tool so I used a pair of long nose pliers to push and wind back the caliper piston, and now, I have to keep re- adjusting the handbrake every two weeks or so because it slackens off .. is there a remedy for this? Or do I need to replace/rebuild the rear calipers?

A good trick I learn't when winding back the pistons is spray the rubber boots with a lubricant & they slide back in beautifully without ripping!

Enjoy your videos. I have noticed on a lot of european makes these days that many fasteners are considered non reusable particularly on VW brake components. Do you come across this with other makes and is it really necessary to replace such fasteners?
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 7 жыл бұрын
Good question! A lot of Euro manufacturers indeed recommend to replace certain bolts, this is because they consider them a one time use as they are usually 'stretch' bolts and once torqued to spec they shouldn't be used again. Usually there is a spec saying only to use once or only use twice etc.

Great video! One quick question, when it comes time to pump the brakes/articulate the handbrake, do you do it twice (once after each caliper has been done) or just do it once after both calipers have been done? Cheers Paul

Hi! brake pads have ”pins” ... does the piston position matter how it aligns with those pins.

Hi,nice job.What type of grease did you use for sliders?Thank you
@OneAuto

It's a brake grease suitable for pads and sliders that comes with the brake pads. If they come without it I use silicone grease.

Were there anti-squeal shims on the pad backs? I thought you dont lube them
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 7 жыл бұрын
They are pre-bonded onto the back of the pad. No problem with lubing them, the grease acts as another layer to stop vibrations that can cause squeal.

Hey I'm first and saw my sticker first. lol Thanks so much for the shout out. Now on to the important stuff, how to fix cars! Do you own your own shop? I don't have a Volvo but I enjoyed the tips along the way. I've spent a lot of time in Germany and they don't allow brake rotors to be machined. Is that the same for you?
@OneAuto
@OneAuto 7 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Wyatt. Yes it's my shop. You can machine brake rotors if you want to here. There are machines that do it whilst they are still on the car even. However rotors are not expensive so I always fit new. What were you doing in Germany?

Copper grease should never be used on brake systems 🤦🏻‍♂️ there are special brake lubricants. Copper grease can be easily washed off, can give false readings to ABS sensors and worst case scenario can seize the pads. It’s unreal that mechanics don’t know that. Most mechanics in UK is doing it wrong. I only use ceramic grease which will stay on bracket, and can work under high temperatures unlike copper grease.
