Since I switched to cups from vulcs I've got deep ass heel bruises in both my damn heels and won't go away, ffs lol. I think it's from A) stomping tricks too much lol my bad and B) the inner etnies sole transitions up my heel a little whereas the vulc vans sole was flat and didn't come up the back of my heel at all. Fuckin heel bruises take forever to heal ahhhhhjrghhfjdksosk

that still raises a question. what about the rubber in a shoe like the vans kyle walker pro with a cup and vulc sole all in one?
@tacticsboardshop
@tacticsboardshop 4 жыл бұрын
The Vans Waffle Cup is kinda unique because they wrap it in foxing like a vulc shoe first, then stick that whole thing inside a super thin cup outsole, then bake all of that to fuse the outsole and the foxing together. It's like 90% cupsole, but they bake the shoes which gives it that vulc flexibility and boardfeel. - Tim

@andrew2410
@andrew2410 5 жыл бұрын
In the vulc shoes the uncooked, soft stretchy rubber is applied to the shoes and cooked (=vulcanized) on the shoe in the oven. In cup-sole shoes the rubber sole is cooked separately in a mold and glued on to the upper on the shoe assembly line. I'll grab a KZfaq clip that shoes the process......

Beginner here.. So a vulcanized shoe can also come with a sole that has good impact support?
@tacticsboardshop
@tacticsboardshop 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, vulcanized shoes usually come with thicker insoles to compensate for their thinness. But even with a beefier insole, they don't usually have as much support as a basic cupsole shoe. - Tim
@fifthgear93
@fifthgear93 2 жыл бұрын
No. 95% of vulcanized shoes are extremely thin and hurt when taking impact. The only exception to the rule is hybrid designs like the some of the Vans models with the WaffleCup sole, namely the Kyle Walker or the Gilbert Croket 2 and some newer ones. Those ones take impact decently but nowhere near as good as a proper cupsole shoe like the Etnies Joslin or the eS Quattro.

Joshua Aliga you might need to go a half size or a whole size up if a Cup sole doesn't fit you in your normal size. The Etnies Marana OG - I'm an 11.5, but the Marana Vulc, 11. There's plenty of room and comfort and cup sole shoes, just find the right size and you should be set!

i am a size 7.5US but since i started skating i always had size 8US as it was more a common size to buy. i did that for 7 years. then quit for like 5 years and then when i got back on it i tried 7.5US skate shoes and i skated ok i guess but i then started buying 8US again and i felt much better some how and was landing things nicely and feels more comfortable. i guess i like a little adjustment when landing instead of being solid stable like if that makes sense. but i also wouldnt go any bigger than that as that would be stupid lol.

How to make skate shoes, by some company. 1- Choose the materials and design. For materials use durable stuff like canvas and cardboard. Design is easy, just rip some design off another brand and change the colour. 2- Get a factory to make your shoes. Protip: Use asian child labour for better value. 3- Get your slave workers to sow and glue your shoes using some weak toxic glue. Use vulcanized construction for less durabilty, you need your costumers to buy new shoes every 2 weeks. 4- Decide on a price. Material cost and labour is $8. $100 seems like a fair price. Remember, skaters are rich people! 5- Market those shoes. Make it a pro model and use words like "board feel" and "impact protection". Skaters will love it. 6- ??? 7- Profit!

This is mostly right, but you have to realize that board feel is a real thing. You can definitely feel the board better with a vulc rather than a cup. But a cup will typically last longer. It's a preference man.

he knows what he's doing but he doesn't know how to explain it well. cup-sole vs vulc isn't just a skate shoe thing and chemicals. googling it shows way better explanations for starters. cup-sole has a better mid-sole because it is mostly one piece and attaches to the shoe much better, "cupping" the insole and your foot. that makes it better connected to the rest of the shoe, absorbing impact better than vulcanized construction, and withstanding different temperatures and weather elements. vulc is much lower profile, not absorbing impact, thin floating mid-soles, having crappy insoles trying to do what the rubber cup sole can already do, thus lifting the shoe higher than need be causing heel slip. packing out insoles or replacing with thinner ones will keep your heel in place or tightening them all the way up and stretching the suede is what usually happens, but will finally lock your heel in place. i'd advice mid/hightop vulcs if you really want them. "low profile" is kind of a BS term as you only really need it at the toe and cupsoles already do that. the best thing vulcs have over cups is better flick from the excess rubber tape for the first 2 weeks of skating. then you're really just skating the same type of toe most cups use by then. however, the foxing tape will start to loosen or open at the heel of your outsole. finally because vulc shoes require so much rubber and due to the vulcanization chemical process, they cause a lot of pollution. use vulcs for vert and cruising, otherwise do your joints and environment a little less harm by switching to cup sole. sorry i'm an asshole but i can't stand the vulc trend that hasn't subsided yet.
@bleepbloopskrrr
@bleepbloopskrrr 6 жыл бұрын
pootnannies interesting to read your comment as a non-skater because in general vulcanization isn't a trend. It was invented by Goodyear, first used on shoes by Keds, and is used for all sorts of rubber products including rubber bands because it helps tensile strength and temperature resistance. Normally the natural rubber might get brittle in the cold or melty in the heat but vulcanization protects from that. At least in terms of natural rubber, which I'm assuming this is. I'm not sure with synthetic rubber. What I haven't learned yet though is why they don't just heat treat the soles before adhering them to the uppers. I get that doing it after helps the bond and uses less glue but it limits the material options for the upper and, as the designer spoke about, the use of foam.

JawnPolygon Those are all general assumptions and not necessarily true... Like he mentioned, you have some wiggle room design wise with both manufacturing methods. The 'cupping' you meantioned can still be achieved with a vulc by using a thicker cup shaped insert.
