Walking at this Pace is what burns Fat.
This is a zone 2 cardio pace, that keeps me in my fat burning zone, while avoiding the high intensity fatigue.
How do you calculate Your Zone 2?
The formula is 220 minus your age. So if you're 30 years old, your maximum heart rate would be 190 (220 - 30 = 190). 70-80% of 190 would give you a Zone 2 heart rate range of 133-152, and you would want to stay as close to that 152 number as possible, without going over.
I walk for a minimum of 45 minutes at this pace.
Any faster, you should be running...
Attempting to walk faster, instead of running, is like a competition for the fastest underhand throw.

I deal with Parkinson’s Disease every day, so I have to walk/lift/HIIT if I want to keep the symptoms from progressing. I’m doing my best to walk this “new way”. Man…it takes work to change the way I walk after almost 70 years of doing it the “other way”. But I’m keeping after it!

Stay at it! The benefits are numerous... Especially when I go for a long barefoot walk in the grass; very stimulating.

Read Norman doidge’s book “The Brains way of healing”. There’s a super inspirational story about a man keeping his Parkinson’s from progressing in there. Super interesting book - we have the ability to heal way beyond what conventional medicine says

@@johnsedlak4646 Thank you for this info, John. I will absolutely read this book you mentioned. Not one of my neurologists or primary care physicians has ever, not ONCE, mentioned diet to me. It’s really appalling. Thanks again!

Good advice. Walk as if there's no imminent threat.

That’s a good point. Walking too fast, like there’s a threat, probably activates a stress response that makes us retain fat.

easy to understand. thanks. lately my walking has become much more dynamic, walk the walk is really what is all about. I used to walk with my feet, now even my waist gets involved. My feet fascia was huring badly, I realised I was taxing my soles to do all the straining... I am 74 and feel confident about my health

I learned the forefoot strike from your videos ("that's a slap not a roll!"). I walk roughly this pace to work (5km) it takes me about an hour. Although I find that going slower feels more natural. At a faster pace, I prefer to run, except with a heavy backpack my calves can't handle running yet.

This is the best video I like I can watch everything. I can watch where your knees go and how far they go. Foot placement and stride. Man this blew my mind. Great job.

Talk about timing! The past couple of weeks I have struggle with faster pace walking most. It's easiest to revert to heel striking and I feel the most awkward when trying to walk properly.

I have been consciously modifying my walking style away from the heel strike. I have been a barefoot runner for 14 years and yet I reverted to heel in walking. Time to fix that now.

Good stuff. I am retired military and after over two decades (and some genetics) of military training and miles of running, my knees are shot. I've always walked because I own dogs - and take them on long walks. But, I only recently started intentionally walking for exercise - and I add a 20lb ruck to increase the intensity. I've gotten up to 11.5 miles with my ruck and most importantly, my border collie by my side. I now have to work on my gait. Will be reviewing your videos more in-depth.

Do you mean how to pivot? While walking or more explosive like basketball? Also, a change of direction of the foot shouldn't create abnormal sounds or pain.

What kind of shoes were the first pair you began with? Are those hard to walk in they look slippery and don't you feel everything like making it uncomfortable on your soles 🤔🤔🤔
@GrownandHealthy
@GrownandHealthy 10 ай бұрын
Those are Vibram KSO EVO's they are not slippery. They are the strongest grip of all the shoes I have worn. They do have a thin outersole, so adjustment to the way you walk will be necessary.

After watching Todd Martin & yourself, I'm not convinced of your argument with regards to heel vs forefoot striking. On another note, walking like this looks unnatural and forced.
@rickyrogerz666
@rickyrogerz666 Жыл бұрын
This is one of the reasons why I think the forefoot first walk is un-natural. Taking big steps does not work so walking fast is super awkard.. I think it looks contrived. It makes more sense to strike just in front of the heel if you're taking anything but small to medium steps. In heel-first steps, the heel doesn't "strike" and send a "shockwave" up the body unless you're trying to do that or walking wrong. Maybe if the tibia was placed much further posterior, at the end of the calcaneous this would happen, but rememer, theres an inch and a half or 2 of calcaneous that is positioned posterior to the tibia, allowing for what is more of a rocking motion during a step. Sorry, but I think these videos are probably harmful for a lot of people.
@ilianto
@ilianto Жыл бұрын
I completely agree. This feels unnatural for me as well. Although it seems worse in flat paved roads than on dirt roads with inclination. And it also feels much more natural when barefoot or with FFs than with any other shoe.

I use traditional shoes instead of barefoot shoes. My heel touches the ground hard in my steps, is this normal? When I walk barefoot in the house, the heel is soft and then the whole foot. It's like an airplane landing. Is this also normal?

@@mimilyon8610 I've heard it said that high drop shoes can cause or increase heel strike.
