I figured out how to network as an introvert. Brené Brown gives good guidance on this, she says show up authentically - don’t puff up and don’t shrink. If I can’t keep a conversation going, I accept that and move on. I just show up as who I am and accept that everyone may not like that, but if I’m kind and authentic then more people tend to like that then not.

This enrages me when I work Healthcare. Being good at your job has a different meaning. I do everything that needs to be done for my residents. But I'm not seen as friendly to the families because I'm DOING MY GODDAMNED JOB instead of shooting the shit with them.

I told my bosses boss recently in a meeting: “It’s not important what I’m doing, important is the bond I’m having with people and interest people have in what I do.” Reputation over work, but when you start from the bottom, it’s always results coming first. 😉 Great video as always!!!! Yes, recommendations mean branding!!! Yes, I know Ana can help you, she’s an expert in XYZ. 😎 And please, do a self marketing! Social media is a power to stand out over credit thievery and nepotism and narcissistic bosses. Nobody can beat a person who is a master of its own thoughts, strategies and the set of cards. Be a player, play smartly, choose wisely!

Connection/ relationship with the upper management is the top priority and how you get your promotion. No matter how hard working you are, if you have a bias and unfair supervisor, you will never get promoted. Life experience from working in a unfair "Company" when connection is all it takes for promotion.

Hey Jennifer! Thanks for all of your great videos. They are so informative and have been very helpful in my quest to find the right job for me. One thing that I've always struggled with at previous workplaces, is being asked to take on extra work to compensate for worker shortages/poor scheduling or being asked to do extra things that aren't part of my job duties. I just started a new job at a start-up meal prep and catering company. They recently moved to a new warehouse, and after 7 hours of working (with no beak) the packaging team was told that they would need to move and clean up to 200 office chairs that had been left there by the previous occupants of the building. I felt so pissed. I told my supervisor that I needed to get going because I felt that this was rediculous. Should I talk to them about how I felt about being asked to do this? Am I overreacting?

No thanks. We have quotas to meet and it’s timed deadlines. I would rather get the job done than kiss up to someone. If I have to kiss ass to anyone, I’d rather get fired 😂 Fuck my reputation. I’ve been gossiped about since day one. Whatever reputation I had is long gone and if I see myself wasting my time and going nowhere at my job, I can easily quit 🤷‍♀️ Unfortunately, I’m too stubborn to quit now. Gotta see how everything plays out Just gotta keep convincing myself that my job will get better and I’ll be ok solely using my talents instead of puckering my lips and degrading myself to stroke someone’s ego.

2:20 80/20 principle in action. 20% of the things you do are 80% of what's important. Giving 110% on that 20% of things is key 4:30 So critical, especially when your UAQ fills a capability gap. I have old coworkers and they don't train others how to do their job. Regular attrition means no one knows how to do their tasks when they leave. I excel at teaching/learning new skills without instruction. So moments like "90% of our funding will be cut because no one knows how to compile financial reports" is where I step in & shine

I noticed this in my last job in New Zealand before I left the country in 2017. I worked as a tech assistant for a large New Zealand mobile phone and home broadband those who would take multiple sick days off leave early show up late or simply know buggar all about the job were promoted to other departments. Those who busted their asses were held back to the point they either quit or were fired for the most trivial matters. Before I left I did “quiet quit” I did the bare ass minimal and gave zero fucks tbh funny enough I get an email from my group supervisor saying he’d been impressed with my work and wants me to train up new entrance staff 😂 I was leaving at the end of the month anyway so I took it just to get off the phone and away from my computer screen.

I'm not motivated to get to know my co-workers either because we differ so much, they're really boring to me. Most are football loving, beer drinking Chads and I'm an artistic bookworm. The problem with "organic" networking with someone who has hiring power is that it's fake by definition. If you did not know that this person had hiring power, you probably wouldn't be seeking out a relationship with them at all. You chose to network with them because of your personal agenda to further your career. You can make it look authentic or organic but underneath it all, it's fake because in your everyday life, you probably wouldn't be friends with them at all.
