This 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI hasn't been started since 2001 and has been sitting even longer. It was abandoned in a barn and we're only pulling it out because the property sold and the owners want it gone. We just need to get is running, get it cleaned up, and get it listed for sale... so, will it start?

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZfaq videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

i'll never understand people who pay a lot of money for cars just because they are old , like sure a split window corvette or a copo camaro yeah ... but this is barely above a regular ass economy car . most people would see someone drive this exact car and not even look twice .... but hey , to each their own i suppose

there was a guy who used to race these locally to me in the mini a division back in the early 90s ... i'll bet he cut up more than one of these things

@@Hard_Right it’s not about how old the car is it’s not about how fast it goes it’s not about any of those things it’s about nostalgia, take a look at the kids from the 90s that are paying thousands of dollars for a Pokémon card. It has nothing to do with the item that has everything to do with what it brings the person back to

@Hard_Right…count me in as one who would gladly have this over many, many newer cars. Yes, there are faster. And better handling. And. And. And. Doesn’t matter. The Mark 1 GTI is an icon an part of automotive history. Worth preserving.

I think it's more of it hasn't run in many years and probably bad gas and corroded parts that need replacement and things cleaned out to safely run and drive again. We used to drag old ww2 trucks out of the feilds and get them running again but things like brakes still working, lights, seats, etc were optional.

Late friend of mine had a 81 or 82 diesel Rabbit. What was funny was his house used home heating oil and the Rabbit would run off it. So during the summers he basically filled up at his house from the tank and that thing used to get 45 to 50MPG.

I've never heard some one explain a quick polish job as ... preserving the history of the car. When it comes to polishing and detailing, the very reason you do that is to get rid of the scratches and imperfections that show "the history of the car". Patina is one thing... out right scratches need to be taken out, unless the scratch is all the way through the paint.

Good video. Noticed the odometer and trip last digit are red, not black. Is that an indicator of repair or tampering to the cluster or some other component? It was my understanding that red tenths on old style odo's and an asterisk on digital ones indicated repairs or replacement for which there should be a sticker somewhere.
