thank you. I bike whenever possible, and in winter, ski when ever possible. the things you share about your life and love of your bike rides are a great reminder to look deeper and more deliberately- at the outdoors, personal challenges, and marking ones growth from start to now. how refreshing, and good on you for identifying your dreams, your goals here to share, and for sharing your joy. thank you.

At last, thank God, well done Our Katie, variety is the spice of life. Loved this video, so glad you did just what I do when life throws you a curve ball. I always say, ‘Right then, that’s a bugger, but let’s not focus on what we can’t do, let’s throw ourselves into what we can do. I adored my cycling, but the same repetitive actions over and over aren’t good for the body, so I used to mix it up with rowing, walking, cross training, carpentry and gardening. I also adore artwork, so had to fit that in around my job. Once I got passed my peak at 33 and had a neck injury that was permanent and limited my enjoyable time in the saddle I got into photography, psychology, astrology and ancient history. I’ve also done Pilates for 8 years, studied nutrition and dipped into various science and biological subject matter, as well as loving bodyboarding. So yes please, mix it up as much as you like, dip your toe into whatever you love and share whatever your little heart desires. If you love it, you’ll be good at it and it’ll be a brill video. Thanks Katie, you’re an inspiration. And yeah, everything is a lesson and a test. You gotta just find the gift in the disappointments and the setbacks, there always is one. Jools.xxx

well you and a couple of others have convinced me to get a bike fit. i am getting a bit tight / pain in the neck. whatever you do i do not feel intimidated, but inspired by you. Personally i would be very pleased to get up to 100 km and then 100 miles, but no ambitions to go further than that. Did a ton of century rides in my younger days. hmm, solo vs group. i am almost always solo, so group rides are a good occasional change. agree re: walk bike into shop. keep on posting!

Feel free to try tubeless of course, but I went back to innertubes after riding tubeless for two years. The pressure in tires narrower then 30mm is just to high for tubeless. Latex innertubes are great if you want a better ride feel and lower rolling resistance. It’s also a lot lighter than tubeless, at least with the Conti gp5000.

Tubeless: I am riding Mavic Ksyrium Elites with Mavic (Hutchinson) Yksion tires and love them. No problems. If you can't get Mavic wheels right now then I recommend DT Swiss wheels or rims with Hutchinson Fusion 5 Performance tires. I have laced up DT Swiss RR421 DB rims on my gravel bike and they set up tubeless easily.

Tubeless everywhere now. I started on my fat bike years ago and slowly converted all my bikes, mtn, gravel/commute and racer. The weight and feel are better, when you get better at the set up and repair (putting a tube in) the hassle factor reduces. The main reason is the puncture improvement. I commute on city roads for around 100 miles a week and used to have regular flats, now hardly ever.

for me long rides are mostly in the head ... the body can do far far more than you think...and eating and drinking enough...snacks and water in between .... even with dead legs after a ride i tend to recover quick enough, next day go for a little spin ....... and to add your long rides are something to aim at ... and having the confidence to actually step up and push that little bit more....

For tubeless, take your road wheels in the car to e.g. Blackstone edge. If its fine good, raining even better. Get wheel(s) out and remove/fit the tyres. How long did that take, can you do it? If it worked excellent, if you can't do it you get back in the car and go home. At least you aren't miles from home and learning that tubeless may not be for you. Endurance clubs? No such thing except maybe in the armed forces on route marches. But audax UK as mentioned is the way to go. Do a Scottish Star or other big rides and you will get the idea from others on the ride.

Katie, thanks for your excellent tips. Here is one for others: If you go tubeless, be sure to swill the sealant after it is installed. I had a problem with tubeless tan sidewall tires that wept and discolored the outside of the tire. Do not wipe it off! Then I put in slightly more sealant than suggested, swilled the sealant, and rode the bike the same day No further problem. And I top it up every three months.

@lenwilkinson8541
@lenwilkinson8541 3 жыл бұрын
@@simonbennett6509 Not WTB, but I would recommend my solution for any tan-wall sidewalls. They seem more porous than all-blacks. Mine are Schwalbe G-One All Rounders. They gave me repeated problems until I modified my installation and routine maintenance. And I refill through the valve so to not break the seal at the bead between tire and rim. Good luck.

What other riders achieve, I like to think I to can accomplish the same, as long as speed is not in the equation. If the 10 day covid quarantine is lifted, I will be doing the RAB this year. Most people think I am crazy for doing it. I have always thought it is better to attempt the challenge then to later in life say I could have done it.

Go Tubeless, no brainier, I have been riding tubeless schwalbe pro1s on my road bike for several years and they have saved me from all the aggravation on long rides of flats. on my recent 100 mile I picked up 3 punctures which all sealed immediately with Stans sealant. Without the tubeless it would of been a pain. Even if you loose some air they still perform well. The ride is more comfortable and less harsh ( Better for your never regions) as you are running lower pressures. I,m 13.5 stone and ride with 85 psi, I have even run as low as 40 psi to test it and still rode ok for 30+ miles. If on the very rare time the puncture is too big to seal it doesn’t deflate as quick as an inner tube or come off the rim like a standard clincher tire, the only drawback is that if you do have to put a tube in at the side of a road then tubeless are very tight on the rim and you need the strength of a gorilla to to get it back on the rim but practice makes perfect and there is technique to it that I have found over the years in which I can take them on and off pretty quick with less effort. Another downside is that you will need to renew the sealant every 4-6 months depending on conditions but that’s an ideal time to practice taking them off and putting on. A must is buying an airblast track pump to re-seat them quickly at home and a co2 pump for out on the road. Go for it. 😁

You can ride at any age. I’m 53 and still as good as many people half my age. It’s actually quite a good feeling when they can’t drop you 🙂

Hi Tubeless? This is not a question this is essential :) where are you living ? In the 80’ Is a great choice of tubeless tyres on the market now & if you not that confident, you have the great vittoria air liner for road tyres to give more insurance ( you can ride with absolutely no air in the tyres in emergency) Have a look is a life changer :) If you need some more advice I can help :) Keep the videos up 💪

@@KatieKookaburra The cost of not only sealant and special pump but tubeless tires are more expensive, the set up time, and the mess. When you get a puncture the sealant sprays out sprays you and your bike and sometimes even others you're riding with. Its sticky and dries hard and tough to remove. Plus it doesnt even always work and you still have to carry a tube. No thank you.

Liberal amounts of vaseline :-) But please shave ;-) Using high pressure 23/25mm tires, I'm reluctant to go tubeless. From (others) experience it looks as 28mm and a lower pressure is from where the sealant works properly...
