Benta is my dad's hometown and when I was there (late 80s) during my elementary school breaks + durian season, we (my siblings and cousins) always went to our durian farm which is quite far away from home and most of the time we stay the night at the little hut at the farm. While staying in the hut, we will 'hunt down' the durian when we heard the fall... detected just by 'internal radar' where it fall just by the sound 😅. Most of the time we got like 2 to 4 big buckets to bring home the next morning and one time we take a break from the journey back home by the road side... yes we have to cross the main road that bus is taking and a car stops asking for the price. Since we were all tired bring those down from the farm top of the hill and we could possibly finish them all by ourselves, we just let go one big bucket for cheap price and went to the town by bus in the evening to treat ourselves some nice snacks for the hard work 😅 ...those good old days.

You guys went to Raub and nvr tried durian?! Oh man!! LOL The best way is to engage a local guide who can bring you to some durian orchard to savour the fruit. The other option after Kuala Lipis is to head towards the coastal towns or city like Kuantan, but I suppose you guys are in KL now. Enjoy!!!

Yes we felt pretty bad visiting Raub and NOT trying the Durian! 😥 Yes, next time we will make sure we are there at the right time of the year and look to visit an orchard.

That Himalaya kopi tiam charging you a 10% service charge is odd.Maybe someone from Raub can explain what the story is.I am curious. That Oreo Snow looks scrumptious.I would skip lunch and have that instead 😋

I work in a hotel. The 10% service charge is up to the premise or owner. In klang there are eateries doing that as well.

Fresh durians are sweet and creamy. There are many varieties at different cost. The smell can be overpowering and most non Asians deemed it "stinky". The fermented durians called Tempoyak are sweet sourish and is usually use in a dish consisting of fermented durian gravy and a kind of catfish known as Patin. The dish is then known as Patin Tempoyak. You will either love or hate the Durian.

Hey Henry! It is sweet and VERY pungent! We are kicking ourselves that we didn't seek it out earlier when we first arrived in Malaysia as we came towards the end of the season. We aren't massive fans of it, but the taste does grow on you!
