Much yes! It’s also common in the autistic community; there’s a big overlap between “cringy behavior” and neurodivergent norms, so leaning into the “cringe” is great advice- it’s a way of unmasking ✨ the way your brain prefers to function.

Hogle zoo has a family of African elephants! They are wonderful! The daughter is fully adult and last I saw she was still breast feeding! 😂 the zoo keeper was so mad! I asked if it was normal to breast feed that late in life and she was like, “No, normally the mother kicks the baby off. But she won’t! And we can’t do anything about it cause how do you stop an elephant doing what it wants?!” I live for the drama of the zoo 😂

1) It's orcas, not whales for the yacht attacks 2) My understanding of the dolphin incident was the researcher just kind of deciding it was faster to just help the dolphin get off. I'd also argue that the attempts to communicate with cetaceans have shown actual comprehension.

It's a good idea to lean into the cringe. I recently started at the gym. I'm making myself try the machines one at a time. Everyone feels intimidated when starting at the gym. We assume people are staring at us and judging us but I think 99% of the time at the gym they're not. They're focusing on their own workout. I think of exposure therapy. I just make myself use a machine I've never used before and realize it's not dangerous. The danger of other people's reactions was just in my imagination.

Maybe a somehow healthy form of disassociation where you are less self conscious? It would be interesting to look into I wonder if there are studies on this. I'm thinking of puppets in therapy and how I used to think that was dumb haha. Now maybe I have egg on my face?

Regarding Cringe: past experiences I’ve had with self-cringe are almost always due to holding myself to some expectation that my authentic Self doesn’t hold. Which means they’re almost always invalid self-judgments from a perspective of trying to align myself with an external social code/performance. My adult self is really proud of the way I’ve acknowledged and dismantled this habit. Then again, auDHD has always made me a bit of a non-conformist ;) Other instances of self-cringe signify discomfort from my actions not aligning with my true values. This subtle rupture in my sense of decency means I’m either noticing something I’d like to rectify, or it’s my neurotic self-surveillance system acting up with unwarranted anxiety and self shaming. This, I’m working on. Being able to laugh at AND with myself is the antidote to personal embarrassment, which makes me feel in control of the situation, even one where I just face planted on ice in front of onlookers. Humor is extra impressive then, since no one expects it. Then I feel power over the experience. I control the narrative. I am deeply discomforted by observing OTHER people’s cringe moments (unless that person happens to be obviously in the wrong, like a cheesy non ironic pick up artist for example, or anything done by Rudy Giuliani). Seeing others feel socially embarrassed is triggering for my empathy, especially if it’s a scenario where that person’s cringe is being mocked by others for their humor. I find this deeply disturbing. Inhumane, even.

My toxic trait is that based on my previous taste in men and experiences with men over the years, if I'm attracted to a man, I automatically assume he must be a monstrous douche and cut him off, wrongfully judging them based on a feeling.
