We took our 600,000 Mile Lexus LS430 to @ChicagoAutoPros Took the interior completely apart to bare metal and started all over.
In this part of the series we're back to assemble the car! We've had many challenges and many issues along the way but the final result is a brand new interior! I am truly amazed by the transformation.
Huge shout out to Jason and his team @ChicagoAutoPros for their skills, professionalism and hard work to bring this interior back to life! Thank you Jason!

Scott, I tackled this early in life at 15 in 1981! ;) Dad and I bought a 67 GMC C15 farm truck. Took it completely apart inside and started over,the only thing we farmed out was the rear main and the rusted rockers. The rest was in surprisingly good shape. I can still smell the moldy corn and mice behind the seat. lol I got it out of my system for many years , but I'm about ready to tackle one again at 56 yo while I still can. If you find the right vehcile candidate you'd be surprised how reasonably it can be accomplished. God Bless!

Great video. I have learned that when I take something apart (like the steering wheel disassembly) I try to remember to take a photo. I am just a DIYer and I know that reassembly can be a challenge.... During the Covid hiatus I decided to take my 1995 Toyota T100 extra cab SR5 apart and redo it much the same way you did your car. Just much less complicated. I found a beautiful carpet kit for it and put sound deadening material on the floor. The dash was perfect as I have owned this truck for 28 years. I polished out the instrument cluster and it amazingly looks brand new. All new LEDs here also. I refinished the steering wheel and column cover. I redid the door panels and replaced the radio speakers with good quality speakers. I found a nice Pioneer radio that fit perfectly in the double din opening. Even has satellite radio, usb, etc. I also replaced ALL the old bulbs with LEDs that made an incredible difference. Those old halogens just weren't cutting it. This included the exterior lighting , the dash, and all interior lights. I understand how elated you are with your 600,000 Lexus. My truck has only 170k miles, but it too is like new. The exterior is perfect with no rust. I finished it off with "TRD Sport" factory decals on the side panels that look so very cool on this old 1995 truck. It was a very rewarding project. Wish I could send a photo. Your channel is great.

It's an OCD thing, kind of difficult to enjoy the car if it stinks, makes noises or doesn't look or drive right. The only way to get a true opulent feel from the car is to have it close to original as possible, and having a project like this is fun especially since you know you're saving a classic Lexus from the junkyard while having Matt Farah style bragging rights. UZ engines are also pretty stout so I don't think it'll be an issue long term even if it wasn't meticulously maintained.

Sir, I know not how many children you have, but I believe this Lexus is akin to "birthing" another! The physical and mental efforts you and your staff exerted (probably wife too!) define excellence and perseverance galore. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you.

Great series! This summer, my son and I worked on replacing the heater core on his Honda and my wife’s Mustang. As he and I were watching you and the team put the dashboard back together and the care you had with keeping track of all the bolts, we both appreciated the mishaps along the way. I had to pull the dash out twice on the civic because of a bound up harness that was stuck behind the crash bar…that’s ok :-). That’s how we learn. Thank you for the journey and sharing all of the challenges along the way. For me and my son, we’re tackling replacing a head gasket in part because of the inspiration of channels like yours. Thank you AMD and team for a job well done.

Question: How do you arrange or plan out where you put the part, nuts and bolts so when you replace them you know what goes where? Cardboard with bolts thru them with labels? Spread sheets?
@TheCarCareNut
@TheCarCareNut 8 ай бұрын
We labeled them by area. So dash upper, dash lower drivers side passenger side. And in some cases by major components. All seat bolts go together, all bolts related to the backseat area go together.

It looks so amazing (again) that I would think you would be scared to drive it to avoid anything happening to it. Even though you said you wanted to get it to a million miles.

True but if I were him I would be feeling like the car is indestructible now no matter what I do to it because I am nothing like those previous owners, hopefully most people that you know are not like that either.

Love the detail spent on restoring this vehicle. It is wonderful to see a vehicle produced past 1990 that is not disposable. In a day where almost all vehicles are treated as disposable. This is just great.

100 hours of labor at $150 average hourly rate comes to $15,000. So yeah, I'd expect my old car to look pretty damn new for a $15,000 labor investment on detailing! Though, I think I'd rather just buy a mint low mileage car up front with the extra money...That aside, this is a great testament to what an OCD person can do given the time and resources.

Ya, with all the work done on this car, it’s gotta be getting close to the cost of a new RAV4 or even more. How many people could afford to do this to a car?

I was hoping at the start of this project to learn whether it would be a good idea to get a project like this and have it restored. I have my answer - even without $15K in detailing, resoundingly "no".

The end result looks great! I’m not sure I’d qualify it as a million mile car though. By the time a million miles rolls by, not much of the original car will remain.

What an absolute gem! This was a project well worth the effort. One of the coolest facts about the 430 is that the engine was the only one in automotive history to be certified to be used in aviation applications by the FAA. This is a true testament to Toyota's engineering. This makes me want to look out for a used one.

Have loved watching this, and videos since you bought this car. I have a 2002 LS 430 which I love dearly, and plan to keep indefinitely, it's the nicest all around car I've ever driven, and I am glad to see you appreciate it like I do. And I've had 5 series bmw, 6 series, and also have a Lexus SC 430 which I love, but the LS 430, it's something special!!
