Cyclone 212 Review from Dr. Weldz

Our advisor and host Dr. Weldz (Austin Hargett) just received the new Cyclone 212 by Everlast. Let's go through the machine and test it out a bit. We will also run through the top points that the manual covers for your convenience.
Please note that the Cyclone 212 does not support 6010 stick!
This unit is a 230A IGBT Inverter MIG (and stick) welder with a MIG rating of 200A at 35% duty cycle, 15% at 230A. Dual 120/240V; large color 4"+ TFT LCD display, power set feature, and much more.

Should of got the 211 STI. So much more machine for a few bucks more. Very advanced Tig with all the same mig stick features

@@lovernchristopher runs decent for the price point. Don't know if it could handle everyday welding. Have an issue with the mig gun already with the trigger. Idk not bad not great

In regards to using that machine on a Generator be sure to read the manual. These IGBT invert machines are loaded with fancy Electronics and they require good "CLEAN" Energy. Meaning they can only plug into a Invert generator. Energy spikes or drops will fry them. I was helping a friend and we was welding at his house using the 110 and he had a flimsy cord. I was to lazy to go home and get a proper drop cord. I was welding some 3/16 wall 3x5 tubing together and I knew it would be a lot for the 110 side but we only had a little to do. I kicked his breaker 2 times and the 3rd time it was not his breaker. The machine lit up but striking a arc it had Zero penetration. I went home got a heavy 220 cord I had to take the plug off and wire it to his dryer breaker but the machine worked just fine and did terrific. The 110 side ws fried. I called Everlast They told me they felt it was a power distribution board and asked if I felt like I could change it if not I had to pay to ship my machine. I changed it and it has never had another issue. I have used it on 110 plenty of times. Now I use my 10 gage 220 volt cord and I put the pig tail they send to convert it to 110 on my extension cord male plug. I have used it a loton 110 helping others out. I am not certain I friedit but I am pretty damn sure. The board was almost $400 if not on warranty. Of course I did not tell them any more info than they asked. LOl It was 2 years old and from when I called them I had the partin 3 days. You have to mail the old part back to them or you get charged for it and you have 30 days. They have a 5 year warranty mine goes out in Aug. Just thought I would let you know they are a bit more delicate than a transformer Machine But also people who are die hard red and blue fans say it will take months to get fixed if it goes down and Blah Blah Blah. I have emailed the service department a few times about little things when I first got it and they replied in hours. You will be loving this green machine. Made in China Yes but sold and backed by American company. Same for much of lincoln electric are made in Shanghai! Sorry to ramble as you can tell I am a big fan of Everlast.

Anyone here actually use this welder with a portable generator and if so, which one? I can't find info on terms like "Total Harmonic Distortion (THD)", "clean power" or "surge watts".

Anyone know what this has over the Vulcan 220 Omnipro? This welder looks awesome and my money is burning a hole in my pocket.

The Vulcan has similar features and runs dc tig. The cyclones main features are stick and mig and having a lot of fine tuning features to those. The cyclone will do what the Vulcan can do, maybe even more as far as fine tune settings. Doesnt (recommend) tig welding with it and is quite a bit more affordable

The differences begin with the warranty, with 5 years parts and labor, 3 years coverage on shipping if warranty work is needed with the Everlast, versus 90 days with Vulcan. And it bleeds over to factory build standards, internal components. Everlast uses name brand internal electronics. The Vulcan is largely a copy of a Lincoln design rather than their own engineered machine.

Don't get me wrong, I love my cyclone 212. Weld LH, ironpowder, etc, and any kind of wire flawlessly. But it couldn't run a cellulose rod to save its life.

I love and mean "LOVE" My Everlast 221sti. But why they put these crappy 150 amp mig guns on these 20 amp plus machines is silly. It is a Ok gun But mine was 9 ft long and I traded it out for a Yes Welder copy of A TWECO #2 15ft gun for 100 bucks. It is so much better made. I mean I put a good 40lbs of wire through the gun t comes with. I like the interface on this machine and the lightning. But other than that the 211STI is way more bang for the buck. A few less max amps but not much. But a damn nice DC tig for 50 bucks more. The 251STI is what I would buy if in the market right now and had $1500. It is the big brother to mine. A 250 watt vs of mine. Except 5 years ago I give $2200 for the 200amp version. The 221 the discontinued but it and the 251 is the exact same features as a lighting models minus the digital interface. The 211sti that I would of chose over this is the 221i have minus the AC tig. The 221 was the first Multi process welder ever of any brand to have AC/DC tig.

Flimsy handles, they move when lifted. If you the machine constantly I bet those will eventually give. Portable? 56 pounds and if you add a 10 pound spool is 66! I even consider my Lincoln 210 "heavy" at 41 without the spool.🤣🤣🤣

First, they were not fully attached. You can see the handles were not fully seated and just barely installed for the video. They install flat and actually sit down into recessed l grooves when installed and are held in by socket head capscrews screwed into the frame and case. Those are heavy handles and ladder reinforced and make up part of the frame work and a unified piece when fully installed and tightened. Miller 211, up until the latest generation, a portable welder weighs 70+ lbs. Hobart Handler 210 weighs 79 lbs. Miller 141 (current) weighs 51 lbs. Lincoln PowerMIG 180 weighs 64 lbs. Current Miller 211 weighs 42 (an inverter) and it won't do stick either. It's fairly light by comparison, particularly when you see the blue colored 141 is smaller, less powerful, and stick only. Portable is generally considered under about 85 lbs, traditionally. If you think 50 lbs neighborhood in weight is heavy, well, there's not much more we can do for you on that.

Ive had my cyclone 212 for about a month and a half now and so far I've been pretty disappointed with it. definitely not the same quality machine as my Mts 225

What's your complaint about quality? They use the same components and tech. Built on same line. Don't suffer in silence. Call Everlast and let them know! Likely something that can be remedied with a phone call. Customers have raved about it and how easy it is to use and how powerful it is.
