Set Sail with us this week on a maritime makeover for VA. While we are yet to actually sailing away, we continue to grind away at the boat jobs. We finally finish the sanding and grinding of the old bottom paint, polish our fuel tanks from diesel bugs and prepare the boat to begin the primer paint job for the Copper Coat application. It's nearly been 2 weeks since we began all the dirty jobs but we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Great look at real boat life. Its not all sailing and adventure. Hard work produces the moments of sailing and adventure. Great job.

Watching the diesel snot going through the tubes made me gag. Apparently I will not be heading to Med school. I’m always so impressed by both your work ethic. Cleaning up after all that work would overwhelm me. DOING all that work would overwhelm me. Drinking margaritas on the poop deck after finishing all the work does not overwhelm me. You two are inspiring. ❤

I’m not sure why I found it entertaining to watch you grind and paint and fix a fuel tank, but I did! These are huge repairs/upgrades and I hope those are the last for a while. Looking forward to seeing your adventures on the water in the coming months. Enjoy the ride!

I share your hate for Diesel as well! I just learned, that glass will capture the microbial growth to the walls of the container, while a rigid plastic will not, allowing the microbial growth to accumulate at the bottom of the container, which in turn allows for better scavenging. Also, the microbes live in the water, of the fuel mixture and feed off of the fuel itself. Fascinating to see a physical demonstration.

You’ll save yourself a lot of trouble in the future keeping your tanks as full as possible, the less fuel in the tanks the better for diesel bug. It may not be ideal, but this isn’t something you want to go through too often lol Even with the best polishing system in the world, low fuel tanks in the tropics will create a lot of condensation in the tanks for the bug.

Hopefully at some point you'll be able to install a permanent fuel polishing system and then you'll be all set. The barrier coat looks great!

On the diesel snot so people don’t waste filters. Set up a pump into a 5 gal bucket. Then 2/3 the way up the bucket make a 1” thru port and hose back to the tank. When you pump to the bucket the snot will settle to the bottom while mostly clean fuel will flow back to the tank. Let it cycle for a while to get the big chunkies. After that you can use your filters to finish polishing the fuel.

Hi, love your videos! I think filters should be in front of a pump. Ie fuel should be pulled through the pump and not pushed. This way when fuel reaches the pump it’s already clean, otherwise you risk damaging pump with bad fuel. Also there is Algae-x magnet system that helps with fuel conditioning, many people swear by it. Maybe worth checking out.

Brilliant solution to fuel system woes Warren with the modular filter pump setup. Cool thing is multi use being portable instead of fixed. Took sum tweaking, Brian GOAT, but believe you will be copied by others, hopefully before they need it. There is Super Ryan and now Tom, both legends deserving recognition.

Know your limits , accept your abilities and solve the problem...8:58 of the vlog showed utter despair and complete realization of a job well done all in one (or two ) grimaces of pain. Loved the little fair haired helper, was there ever a thought of "she may just fit in this tank to do the job faster" ?? (joking). Are you getting closer to Aus?

You need to pull the fuel through the filter first then through the pump or all that garbage will ruin the pump. Looks like you have it going into the pump first.

You need to investigate the FASS fuel system for continuous polishing of diesel and removal of air in the fuel. I put the system on my diesel RV last year and am so happy I did. Supplies more fuel than engine needs so polishing occurs always while engines run. Large cascading filters are easily changed if necessary.

Might be worth looking into Festool sanders for their dust collection abilities. I sanded the ceiling in my living room and didn’t cover anything and there was zero dust. Not only does it collect all the dust, but the vacuum sucks the sander to the work which saves your arms somewhat as well.

Love the boat work content guys! Hey Warren, loved the mobile fuel polishing idea! Maybe you could set up a 'pre-tank' that the polishing system is permanently plumbed into (even a rigged up 20 litre jerry might work). Maybe even a small Diesel Bladder (like 100-200 litre). Could perhaps use the bladder as an Aux tank on passages and then roll up and store when not required.

Caution: I think I recall seeing your To Do list awhile back and I saw that you purchase parts from "Parts4Engines" I do as well. I purchased Raycor filters clones from them - about half way across the stream at Cape Hatteras I was not getting fuel through either filter. Quickly removed ea filter and put the old Volvo filters back in. Contacted Parts4Engines several weeks later and they advised that they had a bad batch of filters and I needed to do a "mod" to get the fuel to flow through. Did the mod and they work fine but I am suspect of their non OEM parts now.

As chunky as that fuel was, it might have been better to just pump it out into a kitchen strainer and let it run back in the tank. After the big chunks were removed the Racor would then remove the finer particulate. I discovered that I had diesel bug in my tank just before a three week trip last summer but it was nowhere near as bad as you had it. I ended up doing six complete turns of the fuel that was in the tank over a period of several days with shock doses of BioBor JF between pumping days.

Before I start I'm going to apologize. I was made aware today of a Heather plant with the scientific name "Erica Canaliculata".( Of course I can't, my wife said so. Doh!!!) I think you've got a naughty enough sense of humour to store that little nugget for that lull in the conversation one day. You never know, you might get a laugh and a result. Good job on the hard too (no pun intended there tho.) Get splashed. stop it.

That is NOT how you grease a bearing, when did grease become a topical application?
@WEsail
@WEsail 3 ай бұрын
Okay so first, the appreciate all comments and I really don’t want to come across as argumentative or a know it all, but I do have to say that, ya, that IS how you pack a bearing when it’s a bearing that sits in a lubricative fluid, in my case oil… I would have done it much differently if it was somewhere that does not get additional lubrication, but in all honesty that grease I used was likely wasted as it would have been “washed” away by the oil very quickly, but I do it anyways as good measure… either way, it’s all good and I do appreciate your input
