I got married on my husband's birthday and I forget both...every year...on trips to commemorate these special events. Inevitably, we'll be on a plane and I'll exclaim, "Oh my God, happy anniversary!" 4 hours later the birthday will kick in. It's a problem. I forget everyone's birthday. Even my own.

I got married at Miami Beach city hall on Friday the 13th on dress down day for aids. Our judge of peace wore so many piercings on his face the jingling was sometimes louder than his voice. The room was small, painted to resemble a garden apparently by blind children. One of the 2 lights behind the clerk was buzzing and flickering. He started reciting the marriage vows in old english but also with a thick accent. Being new to the country, I understood nothing of what he said and started repeating phonetically and mumbling trying to hide the fact I didn't understand. My spouse kept staring at me with big WTF eyes that's when I started laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing looked. We all finished the ceremony laughing our asses off. I could hardly breathe, when my, by now, wife asked: Does that count? are we married?. Clerk: Yes, we can redo it if you want. To which I replied: No, no, please, I'll die. I can't breathe.
