As a native Polish person I find it hilarious how in English some Polish (or generally Slavic) surnames are used without paying any attention to the grammatical gender (which does not exist in English any more, but is still a prominent feature in Slavic languages). Surnames in Slavic languages usually have two variants - a male and a female one, especially ones ending in -ski/-sky. In case of female surnames the ending would be -ska (so Povitska in Esther's case). The fact that her surname has a male gender variant makes the whole joke even funnier to any Slavic spectator :D

Plus it shows their ignorance of their name! After years my sister just changed her previous married name back to the correct female form to Wojciechowska, mine being ski being male.

Scandinavian and Icelandic names were also different depending on if you were male or female (ending in -son/sen or -dottir.) No one cares anymore in America! Signed, The Petersons, Ericsons, and Jensens

Growing up in the South with my Polish last name was tough. Nobody could pronounce my last name. Now that I'm older not much has changed. My wife, daughter and myself are the only ones with our last name in the whole state.
