I had Geedis a couple of years ago, the doctor gave me a cream for it and it cleared right up.

The key to all of this is the original pin. As far as I know, Dennison never produced pins, so we're probably looking in the wrong place. As silly as it may sound, the pin may just be a bootleg of dennison's sticker.

I grew up in the 80's in a small mexican town and I can confirm these stickers were easily found at stationery stores; that and the cheap price means they were produced nationally. We used them mostly to decorate our school notebooks and they weren't associated with any other media, they were just characters trying to emulate Frank Frazetta's style, I think.

Now I really want someone to create a true fantasy world with this stuff, just to see how weird (or generic) it could go

Oh man, speaking of weird things from gumball machines, back in the '90s our grocery store had a machine that sold little rubber ninja figurines for 25¢. They looked kind of like little chibi versions of the Mortal Kombat ninjas. My friend and I would mooch quarters off our parents and try to get as many as possible. And for products of lesser quality, around 1997 and 1998 there was a goddamn abundance of knockoff South Park stuff, mainly prismatic stickers. There was an entire machine that sold clearly unlicensed stickers of the South Park characters redrawn as aliens - aptly called "South Mars." Another one had stickers of the kids from the show redrawn as trailer trash and meth-heads, and called "South Trailer Park." There was a weekly flea market in my town too that used to sell all sorts of weird bootleg stuff, presumably from China. For instance, when Pokémon first came out they had stands which sold oodles of knockoff Pikachu and Snorlax stickers with mismatched colors that would make Chris-Chan blush!

Definitely agree that those stickers very much had that 1979 D&D/AD&D look to them. Coloring, shading and overall style very similar, possibly inspired, the original 1st edition artwork in the books. The devil monster on the cover looks exactly in the same vein as these Ta designs.

You're going a long way and reaching when it's pretty clear that Geedis is merchandise from an alternative universe that was brought here by an inter dimensional traveler. The Land of Ta is ubiquitous in this other universe. It started as a children's book series, which later was turned into a moderately successful TV Show. Throughout the mid 80's people stopped talking about The Land of Ta, until it made a surprising comeback with a movie adaptation, around 1984 or 1985. Geedis featured in it as a benevolent sidekick who would do goofy things like fall over. He was an animatronic puppet who had limited motion, but it still holds up relatively well. He liked to eat Pizza and drink Sepsis, which made him burp loudly to uproarious laughter by the young audience. Sepsis is that universe's Pepsi, there was heavy product placement in the movie, which only got stronger through the second and finally the third one, by which time people had grown weary of the trilogy and how it became more commercialised. Is the condition of Sepsis known as Pepsi over there? I can't say for sure. In recent years a reboot which had been planned for a long time was finally released, it was a fully CGI Adaptation, but instead of being named The Land of Ta, they opted to call it "Return To Ta." In order to dissasociate itself with the horribly panned The Land of Ta's 2 and 3.

I definitely had two of the Land of Ta sticker sheets when I was a kid. I haven’t thought about them in years. But I never saw any additional merchandise. Even as a kid, I just thought they were generic fantasy characters meant to capitalize on the burgeoning fantasy fad. I even remember creating a “bestiary” where I made up backstories since they didn’t have any. An image I’d like to find again is “The Hedi Returns,” which was a piece of art used to advertise a gumball machine. Me and my brother have laughed about that one for decades.

Definitely vending machine junk. I remember getting them as a kid---I'm pretty sure Geedis was one of the more common ones---everyone wanted like the cool looking robot monsters or other junk, but we'd end up with the spaced out looking dump-monster. We had a vending machine in our town that sold these well to the nineties, and a lot of the kids in town had stickers on our crap from it. This was like... about the time of slap bracelets I got mine.

It was made for a hospital sticker book (at least, I remember getting it in a hospital). I remember it well. There was a comic about the boogeyman that came with it that I've been searching for years to find, the artwork in that was utterly terrifying. It came from a vending machine. There were also little candy cigarette things with tattoos in them that weren't anything like these.

Tbh the vending merch theory is pretty cool. I used to collect stickers and temp. tattoos from those things at my local grocery store. The thought of history refusing to forget a set of unbranded stickers from an unknown source is kind of inspiring, in a way. I wonder what the artist would feel, knowing so many people are so desperately trying to remember them.

The moment I saw the thumbnail, some long lost part of my childhood was awakened within me. I’m fairly certain I saw the sticker sheets and pins when I was a kid at a flea market A LOT. There was this one vendor that sold a lot of weird 70s/80s stuff and I think he had them.

I think Geedis is likely an artist’s version of a similar drawing from the original 70’s D&D Monster Manual. It looks like one of those style monsters but in a more stylized way (like the spaceships)

Geedis! I had a geedis sticker on my bedroom wall as a very young child in the late 80s. In fact in some of my childhood pics of my bedroom it's somewhat visible. I had no idea how or when I obtained it but it was stuck alongside an MTV sticker, numerous garbage pail kid stickers a batman 89 promo sticker and various other random 80s pop culture stickers and posters. I was 7 years old when we moved out of that house and I vividly remember being disappointed that I had to leave my beloved stickers on my bedroom wall. Afterward I kept my stickers in photo albums or sticker books but anyone old enough in that decade knew how popular sticker collections were! I always assumed that the geedis was just some random creature possibly from a show or comic that my older brothers watched but after asking them after seeing this video neither have any memory of that.

My brother who would have been 8 in 1982 had a sheet of the Women of Ta stickers. I always liked the designs but never knew where they came from. He was a big D&D player so I assumed they were somehow related to that. Great video!

My grandma ran a laundry for 68 years in a small town in New Mexico. She had a bank of vending machines in the customer walk in area, which I have in storage to the is day, but I remember be these particular stickers on the wall of my brother's closet. I never thought to much about them, but I betcha that I still have a vending machine full of them in my storage unit. I can't wait to send this video to him. If there's anyone who knows anything about it he will.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw Geedis, was the painting "The Nightmare" (1781) from Henry Fuseli, of a woman dreaming and the content of her nightmare. I don't think Geedis is directed related to this painting, .. but perhaps the artist who created the illustration of Geedis found inspiration in the work of Henry Fuseli. In the early 70's there was an album with the Fifth Symphony "Lenore" by Joachim Raff (Conducted by Bernard Herrmann) featuring this painting on its cover. And furthermore there were several publications about the life and work of Henry Fuseli, through out the 70's and early 80's, celebrating a renewed interest in the work of the painter.

I grew up in the 80's and the vending machine merch story sounds the most plausible to me. I do have vague memories of getting either stickers or rubber figurines (some looked to be high quality) that wasn't based on anything. This must have been a common practice in other areas as well considering that there were tons of coloring books at that time that also had unique characters that never appeared anywhere else (same with action figures usually found at craft and dollar stores). But take all of this with a grain of salt since I never gave this much thought till I saw this video.

Freaked me out when I found out about all this on Reddit, due to the fact that I have the stickers. My brother was buying me all the stuff pertaining to Masters of the Universe and My Pet Monster that he could find. He brought me a bunch of packs of generic stickers which I stuck on my door at the time. One set of those stickers being the Land of Ta. I never thought much about it since a friend of mine had the same set too, but she put hers on her lunch box. I'm currently trying to locate the old door since we remodeled years back and I'm sure we kept it somewhere. When I find it, it has the stickers on it.

All I can say is that the art style is very familiar. My mom has several paperback fantasy books which I constantly saw the covers for growing up. The art style for the Land of Ta is extremely reminiscent of the artwork on the books. If I can find the artist's names and their catalogue of work I might be able to dig something up.

I don't know about the Land of Ta stuff, but the space ship stickers I've definitely seen.

My grandparents had a room that had all of this miscellaneous junk (it was surprisingly organized and dust free) I swear I saw the sticker sheets as my grandpa collected generic stuff for some reason. I just assumed it was just some kind of 70's cartoon from my dad's childhood.

The characters look very familiar. I bet that I saw the stickers at a Pick 'n Save (Big Lots) or a 99 Cents Store as a child in the very early 90's in Southern California.

Its probably nothing, but i was able to find that an artist online used to have a blog and posted frequently in a now (poorly) archived forum called "The Kingdom" used the handle, Geedis. The Kingdom was a forum that was used to discuss and share comic book stuff and from the looks of it had a fairly healthy general board. This is from somewhere around '03. It happens to be the earliest mention of the name Geedis used online for anything that i can find. I find it hard to believe that someone happened to pick that name at random though seeing as its spelled the same and its used as a name and it also happens to be used by an assumed comic book nerd.
