Hey boys quick question..i bought the Carlsons cremator mid and long range for my Winchester SXP, it threads in right but the porting goes inside the barrel past the muzzle, with very little of the "extended" tube past my muzzle. anyone else have this issue? should I just return them?

Patternmasters are not restricted chokes the use little nodes inside the choke to control the pattern with the wad, its more focused on your shot string than your pattern

Too bad patternmaster has already been proven not to shorten the shot string. Shot string isn't important, especially within the distances a shotgun is used for. Pattern density, diameter, and point of aim/impact makes up most of the importance in the shotgun game the other is shot size and shell quality.
@DrDuckMD
@DrDuckMD 13 күн бұрын
Shot string has been proven to not matter. Also pattern master chokes may shorten the shot string by a negligible amount, not the 80% they claim. Look up surviving duck seasons video about chokes. He proves that patternmaster’s chokes do not shorten the shot string by a noticeable amount.

I've had a Pattern Master code black duck for about 4 years and love it. I was told that you can't shoot certain shells through it so I got on a chat with Pattern Master and they told me that Winchester Blind Side ammo is the only one to stay away from if anyone is wondering like I was. I also learned that the diameter of the all the Classic and Code Black choke tubes is .715 for 12 ga.

Love my patternmaster and I agree with Steven Howell. I checked out several videos on the goose choke and I thought the black was for ducks. Either way I would have never even been interested in full chokes for steel shot had I not watched your vids. The pattern master put my mind at ease with not using restriction to control pattern. No steel shot pattern on posterboard has matched it yet. I have a multitude of hunters and guns to base my comments on. I want more information on the sports I love and you give it thank you! God bless and please keep your friends in videos. It's like I'm watching what my friends and I do but without the camera's!!!

Chokes do not depend on the brand. The shot size and the range you are shooting determines what you use. If over decoys with feet down at 15 yds you don't want a full. If pass shooting at 60 yds you need bigger shot, BBB or T's with a modified because of the size of the shot and how it stacks in the shell. In our 10's, 18 thousands under bore gives 50 to 55 pellets in 30in at 50 yds. with big shot we body kill, not just break wings or head shots. We have patternd hundreds of loads. We know what works. When it is time to finish off a cripple at 70 yds and going away you need energy. A shotgun is a tool to deliver energy at a distance. We had an elderly Hunter with us, after watching geese get whacked at 60 to 70 yds consistently, he said ' well I guess it's not too far " We had the right ammo and chokes for the shot size we were using. He had BB's, we used BB'S for finish off shots. Do a video of long range patterns, and look at energy at penetration at those ranges. My hunting partner and I discuss your vids. We are 68 and 73. We have seen it all. Every generation has to learn and it is easier if you listen to old guys. Lord Bless.

Very true. For longer shots BBB or bigger shot will carry more fpe at 60yrds. The smaller shot won't be effective.

Bobby you need to do a real evaluation of the choke patterns. Do all 3 guns at the same distance with the same shells and count the pellets in a 12 inch circle. You could even compare to a 3.5inch shell. Keep it scientific!

00:30 ...pretty clear this is an "opinion" video and not a pattern test video. People can have opinions without needing to test it for you specifically. The amount of wingshooting he does I believe, can lend to the credibility of his opinion without requiring an on camera "scientific" test.

Hey Bobby guns come with slightly different factor bore sizes depending on the company. But the patternmaster code black has no constriction its bore diameter the pattern is maid tighter or looser via the shot size some but mostly the length of the choke extending from the barrel. What it does is briefly stops the wad and the amount sticking out the barrel controls the pattern. I’ll have to find the video that talks about it I can find it if you want.

Bob it doesn't use construction it uses wad stopper technology. If you look inside it has little studs around the inner diameter. Also you can take a pair of calipers to the inside and measure it. mine measured .705 but did not shoot that tight at 30yds w/ #2 & #BB Rio 3.5in shells. It seemed to blow pattern apart.

@@sethhalmrast2007 I bought a SBE3 at the beginning of the season. After 3 boxes of shells and killing 1 duck I was wondering what was going on. I went grouse hunting and had a number of easy shots that I missed completely, one of which was a bird in a tree at 25 yards. I put the bead on its head and pulled the trigger and it flew away. I have been hunting with a shotgun for 40 years. I am normally pretty descent at putting birds on the ground. I knew something was wrong with this gun. I patterned it and it was shooting a 100/0 pattern at anything beyond 20 yards. At 40 the center of the pattern was over 3 feet high. I used a number of different chokes, including the Code Black Goose, all had similar results. Benelli made up a special 'acceptable pattern' just for this gun. They claim for this gun a 90/10 at 21 yards is 'within spec'. That is absurd, industry standard is to pattern at 40 yards, not whatever meets the manufacturers fancy. Trap guns are meant to shoot high, but even trap guns are not meant to shoot this high. Hunting guns and particularly a waterfowl gun should have a 50/50 pattern. I sent this gun back to Benelli to adjust the muffler bearing and it came back shooting just as high as before. The sales guy took one look at the pattern Benelli sent back and told me I could have my money back on the gun. I got a Browning Wicked Wing and I absolutely love it. It is a sweet shooter. Perfect 50/50 pattern.

Pattern master doesn’t use a constriction to get there tight pattern. They use a stud ring that holds the wad for a millisecond to let the shot get out in front of the wad and hold its natural pattern. Now using a bore gauge pre stud ring they have a ID of .691. That’s also a very well used 10 year old choke with a bazillion rounds through it. So very well could of been a .68x new.

I've forgone the fancy chokes and instead concentrated on load development. Using 1 oz loads of 15g/cc #7 shot, several others and myself got clean kills on ducks out to 90 yards. For most situations ic was as tight as we needed out to 60 yards. Any tighter and the pattern was like a slug inside of 40 yards. I tried an IM and it was very difficult to hit birds inside of 60 yards but crumpled birds past that. Now for steel or lead shot, a good choke goes a long ways. If you like the patternmaster or the kicks you'll love the comp n choke. I've been running those a ton in 12, 28, and nontox 410.

When u shoot ducks at 20-25 yds with the long range does it bust them all up

@@scottducote7389 at 20-25 yards if you hit them with the full pattern it will certainly kill them but id say that it’s still reasonable.

Patternmasters work well but are overpriced and limit what you can shoot. I have shot one for 4 years and I am now shooting a creamator. I am happy to not be restricted on ammo and FPS anymore, also getting two chokes for less than one PM. Having a long range and a medium will help More than a good single tube.

Throw some grains around the cage. Like spread them, so they can see them while flying.

Nice crazy video.. But for Goose hunting I'm rocking my Remington SP 10 GA shooting Federal Black Cloud In BB out of my .720 Terror Choke Tube.. If I'm duck hunting I'm rolling out with my Browning Gold 12Ga with my Pattern Master Code Black Duck choke tube shooting Federal Black Cloud in #3's.. Both setups for me are lights out devastating on any waterfowl I am hunting..

Carlsons are good but their quality secs are very loose. Your full might be closer in specs to a im. Until you measure it you don’t know. I use briley whenever I’m using any lead. To me they are the best with lead hands down.

Do those chokes work on all brands or just particular ones. I’m looking to upgrade mine. I’ve learned so much from all of your hunting videos. An yes I want to hear about what your using and what your hunting. Your advice matters! Yes I like the fowl Friday’s. Thank you.
