Depending on the market segment they either dominate or are far behind team green. The 570 and down crushes anything from Nvidia right now with the current prices after all the mining died down including the 3 GB version of the 1060. The 580, 590 and 1060 (with 6 GB) on the other hand are within spitting distance of eachother making the choice one of preferences and local prices. The Vega 56, 1070 and 1070 Ti are also roughly equivalent both in value and price and you can get pretty good value if you get one of them on a sale. What's best of those both in terms of performance and value kind of depends on the workload, both in games and productivity. The Vega 64 kills the 1080 in productivity but are slightly beaten and consumes way more power in gaming making the 1080 the prefered option for gamers and the 64 the prefered option for productivity (unless you have a cuda workload but not source code, if so it's better to get a 1080 since Vega 64 can't run native cuda binary and require you to recompile cuda code with a AMD compiler before you can run it). Above the 1080 and Vega 64 it's all team green though. AMD simply have *nothing* in that market segment except for a single instinct card for the workstation and server crowd, something that's completely and utterly irrelevant to us gamers...

The 8500 is already sitting at 100% utilisation in some games, so despite getting higher FPS the higher core count CPUs will last way longer before needing to be replaced due to bottlenecking. Keeping in mind that at this point, it's basically confirmed the next gen consoles will have some variation of Ryzen+Navi and them sticking with 8 cores (But now having SMT for 16 threads along with much faster cores) would mean that CPU requirements for games would shift upwards over a year or two quite rapidly. (And not necessarily in an more IPC is better style direction. I'd wager Ryzen would perform better in comparison to Intel but the high core count Intel chips maintain a small lead)

yeah, ryzen is a better choice if you're on a budget or just trying to get every oz of performance possible out of your money, but if you're trying to build a 1440p gaming rig or something like that then go with Intel. blue team really does beat ryzen by a good bit in gaming, but with ryzen you can sacrifice a little gaming performance and gain a lot of workstation performance. but it's pretty crazy that an 8600k is 2% faster (2% is nothing) than a 2700x in gaming benchmarks though, especially considering the 8600k is $240 vs the 2700x $310

Not to mention Intel i5s have gone up by $50 this year for its base price. While Ryzen, not only has it not gone up, but it goes on sale almost every single week. So when you take an i5 8400 for $289 CAD (used to be 239) and compare it to a Ryzen 5 2600 for $269 CAD (229 on sale every single week in the last 3 months), it's just a no-brainer. I prefer Intel, but the R5-2600 is just the best value for anything short of an 8700k build.

lol no Intel is one generation ahead in gaming today, AMD has to catch up first. Intel has the 5 fastest gaming CPUs, 9900k, 9700k, 8700, 8600k, 8600. Then comes the 2700x, who just can't compete. And you can stretch the gap further by overclocking the Intel CPUs, that will give you another 10% performance. AMD has no headroom for overclocking, or maybe 2-4%.

Looking at the budged prize area, nobody will buy a pc for lets say 500 $ and combine it with a 700 $ screen to get that 240 hz or something. Its all about having the balance between your parts. Sorry but I have to say this is pretty far off a real world scenario. In reality, a 2600 is hands down the best CPU in the $1000 price range for both all-rounder and gaming. Just a 145 chunk out of the budget, maybe with the addition of a cheap aftermarket cooler, and you can pair it with a much nicer graphics card (where you'll see the real impact to your framerates) than you'd be able to afford if you went with an 8600K. Not saying the 8600K isn't the better processor, it clearly is, but you'll see much better results with an 2600 paired with a 1070TI than you will with an 8600K paired with a 1060.

Greatly appreciate what you do mate. Recent stuff mostely. Funny thing is i ended up watching this particular (4 years old) video becouse i decided to upgrade my pc :) I run i3-8100 cpu, 16 gigs or RAM and an outdated k4000 nvidia quadro gpu which still gives me good overall performance. I'm really glad i found a sweet spot with 2700x (price/performance) since used 9700k costs as much as brand new 5800x where i live. Absurde, i know. Enyway - for photos editing my set up was sufficient. i3-8100 is a one hell of a good cpu. Thing i needed to move forward from my original setup is that i started some basic videoediting. If not - there would be no reason to change my setup :) That's a bright side of building your pc - when you do it properly once and it suits your need it will last for a really long time without making changes :) In my case it's 5 years already :)

what is not mentioned here is the AMD chips are good for more than one generation of mother board intel you need a new one every generation mind you I do think that only applies if you bought at least an X370 for your AMD chip. that expensive moboard you bought for your 1st gen threadripper well it was worth it cause I'm assuming after a bios update its plug and play with the new ones AMD has made upgrading chips look like a real thing not a maybe.

@@boysindahooddeutschrapking1113 I was going to get a 2700 but then I got to try a friends build with 2600x and 2070 and it ran brilliant at both 1440p and 4k. At 1080p intel cpus you see a big difference, but once you get to 1440p and especially 4k it is more about the gpu than it is about the cpu. Up to you! I was going to get the 2700 but after seeing the 2600x is in action I decided to save a little $ to put towards my new monitor. Nice to see AMD stepping it up finally, these new Ryzens are a big step in the right direction. my last 3 builds have been Intel, but I was impressed with what I saw at my buddies with the 2600x (and 2070)

I didn't expect to see the i9 9900k anywhere on this list. First rule they laid out in the video is that you have to be able to buy it, and currently it's near impossible to get one. Beyond that, it looks like horrible value in everything except in gaming at high FPS. The Ryzen 7 2700x is a better productivity processor and any Threadripper is a better workstation processor. Hope nobody is gaming at 4k with that processor because your entirely GPU bound at that point.

I'm currently on a first gen Ryzen 1700 and love it. But I'm keep my eye on the 7nm Zen 2 news, I think I will be upgrading if we see a big bump in clock-speeds, IPC and efficiency.
