Welcome back to Talking Thrones. In this video I will be reading one of the most powerful chapters in the entire story. I have had many requests to do something like this so I figured what better way to test the waters than to read the chapter in which The Red Wedding takes place. According to the author, George RR Martin, he says this was the hardest chapter to write, but also one of his most powerful scenes to date. Almost everyone knows what happened during this scene, but do you know how it played out in the books? I hope all the non books readers enjoy this, and maybe even gain some more insight into how amazing the source material is. I know many people do not like Catelyn Stark, but it's hard not to sympathize for her after reading this chapter. Anyways, get your popcorn ready and put your feet up, because the King in the North arises... Thank you all for watching!

I was hoping someone would enjoy it. Some of you have requested that I do this, but I wasn't sure how many people would actually watch/listen. This was a perfect chapter to test the waters. I could do some of the other major events from the books, or some of the great scenes the show never included.

Man that would be awesome but the Jamie story would totally have to change. I think in the show it's more of an action movie to where the books are more character driven. The show would have to be as long as like Walking Dead and I guess they didn't want to do that. Even the Red Wedding was changed dramatically for the show. Don't get me wrong at 1st the show was on piont for the most part but now it's like I said an action movie.

I like the readings. Secrets of the Citadel has been doing chapter summaries which is something else that your viewers who have not read the books might enjoy. She has all of the first book and has some from the second and is still actively doing the series. Another idea for reading is the part where the Frey wards at Winterfell play The Lord of the Crossing with Rickon and the whole “Mayhaps” that Walder Frey later slips in before the red wedding when they first arrive at the twins. That’s was the first indication that they weren’t safe, the equivalent of crossing your fingers while you say something to negate it. I wish they had included this in the show. It was a small but important detail that wouldn’t have taken long to incorporate.

Definitely think you should do more of these! I've read the books (only once so far), but I've never listened to the audiobooks, so it's nice whenever someone does a narration like this. I started reading the books after I saw the 9th episode of the 1st season unspoiled. It blew me away....and I knew that I didnt want to find out all the mysteries by being on the internet. I read all 4 (then the 5th when it came out) books quickly and was rewarded with many twists and turns that I never saw coming. I feel bad for the people who read through all of those pages, knowing (almost) exactly what is coming. I can only imagine how the "Hold The Door" part in the book would have affected me if I hadnt seen it in the show first. Either way, it was great in the show (because I didnt see it coming). It's a whole different journey when the deaths come as a surprise and you arent sure who is next.

Talking Thrones Oh Yah! I live in Jersey. It was huge here thru upstate NY when it came out in 96. A friend said it was his best read ever so I tried it. It was difficult reading in POV Chapters, lack of info, limited net, pronunciation of names, places...I kept starting and putting back down. The shows sanitized version would have been much easier...and by not including Griff, young Griff and the Septa (at the very least) ruined a lot for me. Madam Barbary also. I remember hearing whispers of making it a show after the 1st LotR came out. Never thought I'd live to see it! I'm getting a tad irked, tho. Having read what should have been 1, 3, 5 etc...books sucks and its been so long. I love the back and side books, but after this long? I don't know that he'll ever finish. How anyo e can live up to all the theories and ideas we're able to share online today. I'm not 100% GRRM even knows anymore...like the original, contractual series really should've been finished before all the other stuff he's putting out. I picked up GoT at 20...now my youngest grads HS in a month. I've waited so ridiculously long for the end and I'm an impatient nit-wit. This was great! As a show first person, what did you think when you kept being introduced to new and different characters, plots, sub plots, etc? I doubt I could have gone from show to book good for you! For me it was amazing who they casted for whom, actually seeing Winterfell, The Wall, how they'd work those chapters scripts and the effects. So many wow's having read first but by leaving at least half of everything out, it really impacted arcs and story lines even characters I like, hated or needed to exist. You have a great channel, been watching a while but too many idiots and 12 yo's on KZfaq when I do bother posting. I'd would have never known you were show first and that's amazing in these parts. Keep it up! Peace!

I remembered reading it and not wanting to ever watch S3 because I knew this was coming. I went to Dragoncon where people kept talking about having seen it or not. Most that hadn't seen it had read the book. I didn't watch it until HBO did a marathon before S4 and though it wasn't as bad as the book it was still hard to watch. I wished that even when they didn't bring Cat back as LSH that they had really done her death properly by the book. There's so many things that show watchers miss by not reading the books. What seems so horrible on tv is so much more that they don't know what they miss. Please do the chapter where Jon dies. Some people still don't know he's dead in the books and has been dead for some time now. Lastly please do more videos like this. They're a refresher for us book readers and a learning experience for the show watchers. Thanks TT for always having something fresh. Between you and mama GA I stay ready!

I will absolutely do Jon's death chapter. I have already recorded the audio for Dany's House of the Undying chapter. I will release that in a few days. I have two other videos I will release first, though. Thank you very much for watching, and commenting.

Omg. PLEASE DO MORE CHAPTERS!!!!! (Then do follow up video with breakdowns of the differences in the show vs the specific chapter, but maybe also point out where the influence of the book shows up later down the road in the show ! Or do a whole video series of “BOOK Easter eggs & influences “ that are used in the show, even if they weren’t blatantly addressed with dialogue. (Ya know, How the show gives “book reader fan service” and honors the books at times with subtle little things, even when it doesn’t have dialogue to advance the plot) I know a lot of these have been made before, and Lord knows I’ve probably seen them all already, but, I really like your take on this stuff much better than most other channels.

When you focus on one little bit of the story, instead of the whole thing, you find details you may have overlooked or forgotten. I really appreciate it. And you are doing a fine job in the reading. As for mispronouncing the names, if you listen to the audiobooks, the tv show, and 5 bloggers, you may hear a name pronounced 7 different ways. I'm not sure even GRRM knows how to pronounce many of them.

Wow. This was something. Something special, my introduction to the written work of GRR Martin! I'm glad I started watching this video. Soon, time lost all meaning, and I felt sucked into this world, as if I was sitting there. I could smell and hear, and even started feeling warm as if in a crowd. The trailing thoughts of Catelyn were so real, just as if we were her, as if every single moment and thought had been accounted for without pause. I had just finished the video, as I said above this is my first time listening to/reading from the books, and it honestly blew me away. As someone who loves the works of JRR Tolkien and HP Lovecraft, this was, fittingly, a marvellous feast. The way the sound of the drums was written as doom conjured up memories of the Bridge of Khazad-dum, another favourite and powerful chapter. I was on the edge of my seat, knowing what was to come, waiting for the tipping point - and it came, out of nowhere, in the blink of an eye. So fast and jarring, I could only wonder, how many times I would've had to re-read that part had I not known what was happening. I would've felt so dizzy, I'm sure. Thank you for this wonderful, hauntingly beautiful performance! The memory of experiencing of the Red Wedding I will treasure in my heart. Greetings from Hungary!

That was fcking awesome. One of my all time favorite chapters cause it really makes me feel for her and Robbs losses. When I read it for the first time I truly cried. The show had not come out yet So I had no clue it was coming. It really tore me apart cause with sansa trapped, arya headed towards unknown rds and bran and rickon a cripple and a 4 yr old who lost winterfell and everyone they cared for plus Jon forsaking any claims with taking the black it really seemed as tho house winterfell and most of tully were lost forever. Thank the old Gods and the new it starts to look different for winterfell after the end of this book and after the next shows.
