It has been a while since i've clicked on one of your videos, but im absolutely not regretting watching this one. I am a Norwegian and a Sápmi (or Sami like you said) and i was very pleasantly surprised by the amounts of history you have managed to learn in preparations for this video. My great grandparents were children during the percecution and oppression of the Sami people, and they were not allowed to speak the Sápmi language, despite it being their first and only language. If they did, they would get physicaly punished. And they were not taught the Norwegian language. This is one example of samis not getting to live their lifestyle. Thank you for your accurate presentation of the Sami people and their history. This is a rarety outside of Norway or even areas with a high percentage of Samis. You even taught me something i didn't already know. Great video.

Ben’s explanation of how to make clear ice: “All you had to do was freeze the water in an otherwise insulated container inside of the freezer itself, which caused the water to basically freeze more slowly and evenly, and then, if you pull out that container before it freezes all the way, you're actually going to have a solid block of crystal-clear ice and below it will actually be unfrozen water, which normally would have frozen into, like, this kind of clouded version of ice which would be really hard to separate from the ice after the fact.... And that's it!”

Apart from orphans, do you know what Disney also massively overuses? Basically all of their Disney Princesses ( officially ) don't have any siblings: Jasmin, Snow White, Mulan, Aurora, Cinderella (biologically), Pocahontas, Tiana, Belle, Rapunzel and Moana are all siblingless while only Ariel and Merida have siblings Maybe this is just a causation of parents dying but I've always found it really weird... Loads more main Disney characters are siblingless if you look into it but I thought that the princesses would be a good example to share

This was fascinating. I didn't know about the Sami people. I fell down into a Sami rabbit hole and found out Joni Mitchell and Renee Zellweger are descendants of Sami-Norwegian immigrants.

Disney+ should start an Anna, Cristoff, Sven adventure show where they find his parents. And they can run into Elsa from time to time on her elemental journey.

What we see is his memory, witch the trolls could have altered. He ran away from his home, started ice harvesting because it looked fun, got captured by the trolls who altered his memory to think he was alone with Sven all along, and his parents memory to never remember having a child

Idea: Missionaries stuck him in an orphanage to “raise him properly”, but he kept leaving because of his hatred for those running the orphanage/ need to see Sven/ possible to try and find his family again. When the orphanage grew tired of his antics, they contracted him out to the ice carvers for profit and hopefully some discipline. Then the trolls decide he’s his, without checking his parental status, and because Kristoff’s life is better with the trolll, he completely abandons the orphanage (although it was likely they kept any wages he earned I’ve harvesting until some point he was considered an adult/he fought whoever was distributing the wages).

He could've been an orphan since he was a baby then he wouldn't have remembered being with his parents. And he meant when he said "when I was a kid it was just me a Sven" he meant Sven was his only family.

Or maybe he was kiddnaped, placed in an orphanage before he could form proper memories, then escaped.

So now that we know there is a frozen 2 and a “hidden land” they are going to and has lots of deer live Sven, I think that Sven and Kristoff are actually from that hidden world and when it got closed Kristoff was the only one on the other side and to keep it not so hard for Kristoff the trolls erased his memory, so I think when frozen 2 Kristoff might in fact reunite with his family and the little blonde boy might be his little brother

Thank you for mentioning the troll myth! I was freaked out as a child, as my god sister used to tell me that if I didn’t behave, the trolls would hunt me down and take me away............. It was safe to say that from the ages of 2-6, I was terrified mostly of rocks and trees.....

I would like to talk about an older movie in my comment, one of the most classic and recognizable Disney movies of all time. The Lion King. What may I be talking about? The true hero of the film. Oh but Francis, that was Simba he defeated Scar. No. The true hero of the film is none other than..... Nala. From the beginning we see Nala as an adventurous, courageous, clever character. She is immediately willing to follow Simba to the graveyard, even more so when she knows what it is. When Simba leaves, we see her completely heartbroken. Think of how terrified she must have been when Scar brought in the exact hyenas (Shenzie Bonsai and Ed) that had tried to kill her and Simba just days before. But she didn't run away as we see, she stood through it. A while later, when she is full grown, out of her bravery and willingness to protect her pride, she goes far out over the savanna and desert to a jungle just to find food. She never gave up. When Simba attacked her, her reflexes kicked in immediately and she fought back in an instant, showing no fear. She pins him to the ground quickly, ready to kill to get a single scrap of food, until Simba recognizes her. After a little bit she tells Simba about what's happening at the pride. She tries her best to get him to go back. Of course he doesn't want to and storms off. He later says that maybe she was right, proving her to be a large influence that leads to him going back. Think of if Nala hadn't come to change his mind. At the pride, when Scar attacks Simba, she leads the lionesses to save him and help fight off Scar. If it weren't for her bravery, Simba would've been killed. So, in conclusion, Nala is a brave and courageous, loyal character. If it weren't for her, Simba would never have been convinced to go back and even could've died. Also, if it weren't for that, the pride would've died from starvation. I know what you're thinking. Francis, what about Rafiki leading Simba to Mufasa? Remember, Simba would never have run off and thought about it enough to find and follow Rafiki. So, what do you think? Is Nala the true hero?

Awesome theory! I was so happy when you mentioned the troll changelings, but when the Sami came up, I was nodding for the entire video! I've spent quite a bit of time with the Sami in Finland and it's a truly beautiful culture. The level of oppression they went through is terrible, but unfortunately it's a similar story with many indigenous peoples.

I always tought he was abducted by the trolls (I knew the story of the changeling children) and just because he says that "it was just him and Sven" doesen't prove anything, since we know the trolls have the hability to alter memories. I know the trolls seem nice, and I think the trolls consider themselves to be good, but they're NOT human, and we can't expect them to have the same values as us, and their idea of right and wrong doesen't have to fit ours.

You guys never fail to make me look at my favorite Disney and Pixar movies and characters in a while different way. I love this channel so much

Love this video and explanation so much! I heard a bit of how the Sami's people's song was in the intro, but tying it to Kristoff (the fact that he's canonically Sami is so clever and interesting) is so fascinating! I'm of the opinion that the answer to his parentage is all the above - he is a Sami and his parents were punished by cultural genocide by missionaries, and they may have been separated from him or killed as a result. It may not have been Arrendale's missionaries, and he maybe wondered close to Arrendale and they took him in. I figured he had just been an orphaned Arrendale citizen and the men loosely watched over him as they vaguely taught him the trade, but I had always been bothered why they were cool with not tying him to their larger sled in their own sled as they used large horses that could easily outpace Sven - they were oddly ambivalent to his safety, and him being some cultural outsider can help explain why. The Trolls then just took him (they would have taken him anyway) and cut away any memory or bond he may have had within the Arrendale village to keep him as a changeling. I think their gift to him was to understand at least Sven, but since Kristoff has been talking to Sven and treating him as if he understood him as well as another human the whole time as children are wont to do, he didn't really notice.
