I think her age at the time was a feature of the channel. There's a certain novelty to a young kid being "edgy" and swearing in videos especially when that is the main difference for a lot of these commentary channels. Now that she's older she's not that much different than other political channels. That could be a factor in her decline.

I think what’s important is that there be older guiding figures in the family for kids accessing the internet. I’m in a similar circumstance with Corbis in that I’ve been on the internet since I was yoooung, more than half of my life as an adolescent. I got into a similar edgy right-wing phase that bordered Fascism if only I weren’t Asian. I’m grateful for my older brother, who was more experienced at political matters, for helping me leave all that through effective discourse and grow into understanding the real sophistication of the world and encountering more intellectually nurturing and challenging endeavors today. In Corbis’ case it seems very clear that her family was extremely negligent in her internet use for whatever reason, even with evidence that her much older looking brother seemed to have been aware of all this.

Point is I think the internet as a tool has been greatly revolutionary in all things including education, and I think it’s really reductive to reduce the situation to that of young folks should just not be able to access the internet, putting all the blame into the tool itself rather than shitty parenting and upbringing. It’s helped me come across different kinds of people I never would have otherwise and helped me learn a lot of things to understate. If I didn’t get into reading Wikipedia articles on history at 8 my life would perhaps have had taken a completely different course.

SERIOUSLY. and the textbook groomer phrase of "you're so mature for your age" is completely moot because being mature for an eleven year old... is still not being mature enough to consent to sexual acts, to negate your vulnerability and naivety, to evade influence from people you look up to even to your own harm. Mainstream media clumps anyone left of Biden together as socialists and anyone right of Bush to be alt-right. I think it comes from a complete misunderstanding of both ideologies and the definition of right and left. If we're describing left as anti-capitalism and right as capitalism, pretty much most people are right wing in the US, even liberals. If left just means anything more progressive than the status quo and the right is anything more conservative than the status quo, most people are left wing. It benefits the media to obscure these lines and use whichever definition best suits their bias.

Denstiny seems like he was too concerned about out-debating Corbis, when really he should have tried to speak to her on her level. She did seem quite intellectually mature for her age, but at the end of the day she's still a child and if you actually want to change a way someone thinks, trying to catch them out or whatever isn't the way to do it.

I think the issue is here is the people who could have stopped her being radicalized only helped further it. Her getting harassed by the police and classmates at school over her edginess wouldn't have helped convince her she was wrong. It only reaffirmed her beliefs. This is the issue with cancel culture. Dogpiling someone telling them are wrong and ruining there life wont change them. It doesn't make them listen to you, it makes them despise and hate you.

Always thought the Corbis situation was weird as fuck, even as a kid myself at the time i saw issues with it. It was creepy as fuck seeing these 20/30 year olds promote her because "shes just like us whoa cool so mature", kinda narcissistic too that adult men are calling a child mature just because shes parroting the same stuff she sees adults she looks up to say. It's kinda sad though, everyone is ignoring that yes, being a leafy clone was not hard and the content was garbage, but being able to do so at a young age did show she had talent, most kids would have probably been mocked instead. With better guidance and actual parent intervention i think she could have been a very successful person instead of being a cringy edgy "memer". A lot of kids i knew back in jr high (myself included) were like her but quickly grew out of it around freshmen/sophomore year, realizing acting like that makes you not only look like a moron, but also a shitty person to be around.

Most kids don't talk politics from a genuine, thoughtful place. They parrot what they see their favorite KZfaqrs, episodes of South Park, or most threatening callout posts are saying. Sometimes it's to fit in, sometimes it's to be funny or edgy. Corbis struggled explaining her views when asked, which is probably because she barely even knew what she was talking about. This was big with kids in the 2000s when I was a kid. It's not that kids are all psychopaths & idiots. It's just that they haven't had enough life experience from multiple viewpoints to have an opinion worth arguing over, because they're still in the childhood bubble of parents & peers. They're very easily influenced because they don't grasp the consequences or nuance of outside opinion. Their brains are still growing. Yes, there's outliers, but they usually focus on a specific issue the child personally deals with instead of the whole pie. If a trans kid supported trans rights, a kid of a cop backed the blue, or a black kid spoke up about racism, that's because it DIRECTLY affects them. Even then, they're too young to see the ENTIRE picture. This is FINE. This is NATURAL HUMAN GROWTH. Putting the opinions Corbis had online, surrounded by adults, is something she will NEVER escape, because the internet is forever. The way people treated her & the things she absorbed that early will affect her forever. However confident she ends up about her opinions as an adult, she will undoubtedly be traumatized & adversely affected in her emotional growth. 12 year old political 'commentary' should not be a thing on here. It's dangerous. fml, I didn't think 12year olds were even allowed to upload.

@micalyptus

I think this is well said. Regardless of beliefs, that bubble of influence and being so vulnerable to said influence, for better or for worse, just doesn’t have the space to nurture seeing the ENTIRE picture, unless you’re brought up to consider as much. Even then, I feel there’s a general time where we get to a point in our growth where individuality and maturity step in to start considering things outside of our immediate experience. Like when you get older and start to see your parents and mentors as individuals outside of your own life, and start to separate your ideals from theirs, even when still very similar. As a child still maturing and vulnerable to so much influence with limited life experiences to properly get a sense of the real world around you, your political views should not be taken nearly as seriously as those of adults. I say this bearing in mind that many adults may not be much better themselves, and equally discount youth that bear the same beliefs as myself.

Yea strongly agree with this. Imo the fact that she was treated as a peer by those people (including the criticisms of her politics and '"""debating"""") only vindicated her. Instead of focusing on her takes, people should have criticized how ridiculous the situation itself is, and that she is a literal child and has a very limited experience and view of the world. In the same way, the fact that it was mostly people who were openly left that were dunking on her while the people on the right protected and treated her as an equal also didn't help as any criticism coming her way could have easily dismissed by her as it was just 'her opponents being mad'. There really should have been more non-wingnuts who would just look at the situation as a whole from outside and tell her 'ayo what the fuck' instead of trying to debate her points

I would've thought a grown adult debating her would put in perspective first hand for her how undeveloped her brain is for these types of topics tbh. Sure, she can read the opinions of 4chan users and spout them off, but it's only when you're being challenged and forced to explain these ideologies to somebody that you get exposed for either mimicking what you hear around you, or can truly prove you know these topics. What I don't understand is why these people treated her like an equal peer and willingly gave her a platform? And where were her parents during all of this? How did they feel comfortable knowing their daughter was consuming HIGHLY inappropriate content and conversing when men twice her age or more on the daily?
