i definitely confused myself learning this because I have known it to be used as DHCP relay and not just as a server but it seems to act like a basic DHCP server nothing fancy so yall got it 😂I don't teach lol so this isn't that. I just wanted to discuss a few things that I got to learn this past month working on the firewalls.

Thank you so much for making videos. I ended up circling back into networking and I thought of your channel.

I always prefer to have DHCP on a server, it reduces the amount of documentation for IP address management (IPAM). The only time I have a device that does the routing perform assignments are usually if there is a branch environment that doesn't have a server and I need to do reservations for things like printers. I'm annoyed at work because the previous engineer moved away from using the server to go around our server team not giving him access (it wasn't like he made DHCP pools all the time). I've been working on Palo Alto for over a year now, and I'd say the weirdest thing that I've had to learn on it has been URL filtering and category filtering. The order of operations involved with how the firewall processes it annoys me. Other than that, I love the product and would definitely prefer it over Cisco's firewalls.

Hey Hope you are doing good. DHCP server on a firewall is fine. I would say on the cons it depends on design of the network and size of the local network. Everything being vm's firewall then bottleneck could be cpu performance peaks. Pros is consolidation of services for cost savings.
@certifiedcurls

Definitely can understand this! It's my understanding that it does have a cap on the amount of IPs it can distribute and doesn't have the advanced server capabilities as a standalone/VM server would have. I can see this for sure being for cost saving s especially for smaller scale

When you said you can use the Palo firewalls as a DHCP server, I was like, get outta town on a 3 legged horse! I should go change my undies and try this out for my self. Thank you for sharing!

When you say lab environment, is it set up by your company or through Palo Alto training?

Thanks for your videos and time. What would be the path and resources to learning and getting certified in Palo Alto? I have no networking experience. I work in desktop which probably don't matter.
@certifiedcurls
@certifiedcurls 3 ай бұрын
Desktop does matter. Palo has free study material. I would look in their study guides and Beacon learning to start. Udemy has good info to learn networking

Hey, I have a question. Like you in in college. I am taking my last two classes, Object Oriented Programming and Capstone in the spring qtr. What so I out on my resume to get someone to give me a chance?
@certifiedcurls
@certifiedcurls 4 ай бұрын
Any big projects or labs you have built out for sure. That is your resume and experience. Anytime you helped out someone in the field, etc. Now OOP is not something I'm too familiar with, but typically, the same format will apply. As long as you can show you are eager to learn and grow, that's great! Most of the time, jobs are looking for people who are trainable. That's what's important and has been my experience.

Regarding the DHCP, i setup DHCP on a firepower 1010 with no switch just for a few devices and Maps I definitely don't like DHCP on the firewall because the options are generally limited. And with Firepower, to get extra options you have to configure them via flex configs. This makes it harder to keep track of. I have also seen DHCP on Meraki firewalls

I really want to learn and follow along but this format is really hard to pay attention to. It’s all over the place and non linear. Is there a way you could script this content to make it easier to pick out the topics? Maybe timestamp the actual points please?
@certifiedcurls
@certifiedcurls 4 ай бұрын
I can timestamp no problem. Thanks for the feedback I can work on making it a bit more easier to follow along, but i dont think I can do a straight learning format right now since these are just talks about things I'm actively learning about. I'm a bit uncomfortable expanding upon and making it in a "learning" format if you understand since it's not something I am completely knowledgeable on. But I for sure can improve my delivery moving forward!🙂 work in progress lol
