Recently became an IAM Engineer after 3 years of desktop support and 2 years of help desk and I agree that info/cyber security is not entry level at all. I do get inspired by people such as yourself who are able to get into IT and tech industry in general

This is such a realistic view of getting a foundation before attempting to get into something. I think the oversaturation of influencers telling people to, "Do this in these simple steps and get a high paying tech job." is the reason for the market being the way that it is. You have people getting discouraged because they have some skills, but no concentration (or experience) in anything and still expecting to beat the competition. Kind of reminds me of the bike fall meme, but there is also someone putting another stick in the other wheel.

i always appreciate your honesty! its funny how would you communicate with the networking team if you dont even understand the basic protocols etc. could be a misconfiguration etc.

you would be surprised how many people don't know the basics... it can get a bit frustrating when troubleshooting but you work through it

So glad I found your page. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get some hands on practice labs. Im studying for network+ but really want to get hands on.

for network+ the good thing is labs are just add ons for yourself. Download packet tracer it's free and Cisco academy has some free courses to start off with

I find your videos interesting, looking forward to more content! BTW I am also a network engineer, I just recently joined an f500, and will be assigned to the firewall team...how many years of exp did you have in IT(Networking), before you become a firewall engineer?

Over 10. I didn't really start pursuing it though until last year because I was still learning a ton, I'm sure if i decided much earlier in my career I could have gotten a role

At an old job it took a week for a certain entity (coughdisacough) to figure out they were blocking traffic from our kits. I had to sit outside and send traffic for hours each day for them just to be like "oops". I think they hired some entry level individuals.👀
