This video is solely my opinion. Everyone else should have their own opinions so feel free to share them in the comments! This script took me over a year to write, the actual video took me a month to make. I had to gather all of this footage and trust me, it wasn't easy... So I thank you all for any support! Edit 4/4/22: Mistake 1 - That Cornwall bit was 100% a mistake. I should have done more research there’s no excuse for that so I am sorry. I just thought it would’ve been cool if the van der linde gang had history with robbing his businesses and Cornwall secretly knew? But that’s not right it’s wrong. Then I thought it would’ve been cool if Cornwall was the villain against Hosea and maybe they both have history? Or maybe not. I just thought it would’ve been cool, but I forgot that Cornwall went after them because of the train, so that’s 100% my fault. Idk for some reason I thought that the Pinkertons worked for Cornwall I’m so stupid 🤦‍♂️Guys just ignore anything I said about Cornwall that was a mistake and I am sorry because now it makes the whole entire video look bad. Edit 4/5/22: Mistake 2 - Sometimes I think this video is poorly written because Rdr2 is amazingly written. The story gets deeper than you think. Dutch used the members to fill his ego and get only what he wants, so why would you want to play as that? He is an antagonist, narcissistic sociopath. And only used Arthur, Hosea, and the rest of the gang to get his wants. He doesn’t care about Arthur he doesn’t care about Hosea he doesn’t care about John and the proof is there because not only he left grimshaw but he also left Arthur and John to die when they were at their weakest level. So MEANING that Dutch was never a good person he was always like this even before the events of rdr2. And maybe Micah didn’t manipulate Dutch before everything, maybe Dutch knew the entire time and only let him manipulate him to make an excuse to get what he wants! I didn’t really think about that level of writing during the making of the script. Edit 4/6/22: Mistake 3 - I come to realize that I still stand by my own take on Dutch. I know I kinda painted him as a good guy in this video, but I still think that he cares about Arthur. I’m not gonna sit here and say he was always like this, he wasn’t. At one point I do believe he was good and didn’t use Arthur and the rest of his gang for his own fame. I guess you can say that about him in the second game, but Dutch is.. a very interesting antagonist. Of course he is pure evil in rdr1 but I have a feeling that he was a good person I mean he did save Arthur and John and raised both of them I do see that as good because he basically adopted them. I wouldn’t see that as manipulative or trying to use people because his connection to Arthur and John is very deep and the dude just went crazy in the second game becoming more and more evil overtime. I think they should add a lot to the storyline of Dutch and showcase what else of more major plots that drove him to the land of insanity. That’s just my take on it. I also wanted to point out another mistake I made during the making of this video. I state that Bessie died due to something that was unknown in the evidence of the history. This is false, Hosea in fact confirms that Bessie passed away due to pneumonia. I didn’t see that in the Red Dead Wiki at the time but it’s the truth. So yes, Bessie does in fact die from pneumonia so my bad. Edit 4/7/22: Mistake 4 - You all may be wondering why I make a big deal about Mr. Gillis selling the Brooch? Yes it’s practically useless because Arthur gets it back anyway but I think it’s much more than that. You see, It's not about Arthur getting it back, it's about the intention behind Mr. Gillis's mind. it shows how he doesn't care about his family anymore and it's the little things, like selling her mom's brooch, that counts into my argument. It shows that he will easily pass on the most valuable thing to his daughter and deceased wife away just for a quick buck. That's the reason why I state that it's "worse". Another mistake I wanted to point out was the scene where the gang is running from the blackwater massacre. That scene obviously doesn’t make sense. The reason why it doesn’t make sense is because the scene was rushed. Yes, rushed. That’s why you see Sean there lol. Yes I know Sean was captured. That specific scene was the last footage I got so it was towards the end. I had to fill in the part of me explaining what the infamous massacre was so that whole scene was honestly rushed and I was getting tired because my deadline was March. So I completely apologize for that mistake that specific scene was in fact rushed. Edit 4/8/22: Mistake 5 - There’s a theory that Arthur met Eliza before he met Mary. I believe this to be false. I assume that him and Mary were teenagers and grew up together in their relationship. Apparently, Arthur met Eliza when she was 19. I would assume that Arthur was in his 20s. I’m sure that Arthur raised Isaac for 10 years. I wouldn’t say that Arthur met Mary after he lost his son? I’m positive that him and Mary were together before him and Eliza were. But again, there’s no proof of that claim anyway so both views are in your own style. I feel as if Arthur became a good man in the second game because of trauma. I’m not just gonna say Arthur became a good man because he got tuberculosis, nonono. I believe there’s way more to that. Sure he comes off as mean at the start, but wasn’t really in his right mind to begin with. He had to learn the hard way, and it forced him to become a good man. Even tho he was a killer lol. The trauma damaged the entire form of his character and shaped him into a caring being. Now you can obviously change this by going into low honor mode, but I feel as if it’s the way you perceive it. The death of his wife and his son could either make him into a high honor man or a low honor man. You decide… Edit 1/25/23: Thank you all so much for ONE MiLLiON ViEWS!!! A trilogy going backward in time has never been done. Would be glorious.

If RDR 3 was a another prequel then that wouldn’t bother me since there’s was a LOT of lore to explore in it (in this video obviously) along with adding Landon Ricketts since a lot fans (me included) would like to see him in his prime and focus on his storyline. And maybe in RDR4 we could play as Jack again tracking down Sadie and Charles to write the book Red Dead thats in Franklin's house years later.

The story of Jack is in the big picture a sad story, but killing Ross was immensely satisfying. Also it's not like he became a ruthless murderer and killed an innocent woman in cold blood like Dutch. He avenged his father. And it was done in an honorable duel, he didn't shoot him in the back. To my mind Jack knew that his parents didn't want him to seek revenge which is why he waited until Abigail died to pursue his vengence, but he also could not let the injustice done to him and his family go unanswered for. It was something that needed resolving before he could move on with his life.

I think mac callender would be the best protagonist for rdr3 as he was a tough man and at the end gave arthur his horse and his coat.

I hate the fact that I can't experience this masterpiece again for the first time...

I love this idea, to good to be ever realised by rockstar. These GTA type role play footage kills me though, young Arthur was wild💀

The only issue I have is that Hosea is 11-12 years older than Dutch and would probably be a father figure to both Arthur and Dutch. You can see that both of them feeling like they lost their father in Saint Denis. I think it'd be a better story if you start with Hosea being the leader of the 3 then slowly leaning towards Dutch starting the gang as the other members slowly come in with John and Arthur having a small rivalry. I will say that it would be nice(if not the better story imo) to see how Jack turned out after the events of RDR and the dying off of gunslingers and going into a more evolving world with WW1 and things of that nature. You could bring in Charles and Sadie since they might still be alive. And this could also be him going after all the men that killed his father outside of Ross and discovering that his dad was actually a good man (like the way they had John talk to other strangers with them talking about Arthur) just like Arthur was (depending on how you played).

This concept is brilliant. At first I wasn’t onboard with another prequel, but man a reverse trilogy actually sounds sick.

I love how for the young Arthur, you literally just made him smaller, like he still looks like an adult but just comically small, like I saw a video of someone using mods to play as Jack Marston, and at one point used the mod to make Jack adult sized but still using the kid model

There’s a lot more to Arthur’s story alone we don’t know about. I thought it was interesting that of the vanderlinde gang Arthur had the biggest bounty on his head. Arthur also seems to be viewed by many in the gang as the most skilled gun judging by voice dialogs.

if this were to ever happen, i would pay soo much money to have my memory of read dead redemption wiped and start in chronological order. now that would be insane

After my playthrough of RD2.. This was almost EXACTLY my thoughts on how RD3 should play out. Rockstar would be dumb to not have this storyline. And I think it would make one of the best game trilogies in gaming history, and take the goat for storytelling. I really want to know what happened with blackwater... I would love playing that out. Awesome video. My thoughts on this are in line with yours.

A prequel to a prequel? That’s like the ultimate prequel!

Personally, I think sticking to one character would be better as it creates a stronger bond (the player and Arthur), but exploring how the gang started and developed would be a great way to approach RDR3. Well done on your video, so much effort was put into it!

I would definitely like RDR3 to be a prequel focusing on the era of outlaws at its peak with a brand new protagonist who occasionally runs with the Van der Linde gang.

I get that every character has an interesting backstory and I would love to know more about them, but the game still needs to have a main convincing, appealing story/journey. Without it, I feel the game will easily become an action-packed game with epic set peices but no real deep message behind. Like in rdr2, we get to know the journey that the Van der Linde gang went through together, the stories of rdr characters in their younger day. But on top of that, we witness the amazing redemption arc of a completely new character and it definitely is the winning point of the game. With Arthur Morgan, Rockstar set a really high bar for themselves to meet and beat.

Red dead 3 should definitely be another prequel. I think it's really interesting to tell the story backwards, see things that were hinted at initially. And, the consistent graphical upgrades can even be seen as thematic, with each chronological progression producing a less shiny outlook on Rapscallions. RD3 (if a prequel) The prime of the bandit/outlaw scene. The land is beautiful and plentiful, robberies are simple, and life is good. RD2: Exiting the prime of bandits and outlaws getting off so easy as civilization encroaches at every turn. Robberies go wrong, feuds abound, but the outlaw spirit is still alive if marred. RD1: Bandits have no place in this land of civility, even former-bandits turned honest working men. Their time is passed.

I seriously can't believe I never considered the third game being a prequel to the others. It's the best idea for this series I've heard and would be positively insane for the devs to pull off. Plus, I feel like it'd fit so well with the former games' themes of roots and fates and how they define (or do not) define us. God, I love the idea so much. Plus, I love these characters, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to see them some more. It might be more difficult to make a compelling narrative when Dutch is more of a manipulator but not yet an 'enemy' the way he is in the current games, as I feel like for these games the idea of a more cut and dry bad guy would be a bit of a letdown -- I think a core piece of these games is their examination of what makes us good or bad and how blurred those lines can become. It'd be difficult to find a way to provide a compelling broad conflict without simply repeating the same beats we've seen before. But I definitely think it could be doable and if pulled off well would be incredibly satisfying for a series of stories like these. Definitely what I'm hoping to see, now, because it'd be a beautiful way to get across the series messages before moving beyond the trilogy.

The way you explaining the story is really interesting but the way this video goes is really hilarious

I like the idea of playing as Mac but making his death as devastating and impactful as Arthur's or even John's would be a major challenge. Perhaps he sacrifices himself to let the rest of the gang get away and has a tender brotherly moment with a badly wounded Davey before making his final stand against the Pinkertons in a nod to both games where both death's involved a sacrifice to attempt to save others. Maybe this would give a bit more emotional depth to Davey's death as despite Mac's sacrifice it still was not enough to save Davey. This ties in perfectly with the theme of Arthur's death not being enough to save John in the long run and John's death not being enough to save Jack from the outlaw life.

For me, the perfect ending for a RDR2 prequel would be with the birth of Jack. I like the idea of the three generations of RDR protagonists in one final and heartwarming scene. I like the direction you took with your first concept, but I think this game wouldn't need Micah to appear in it, the game would show the gang at it's peak, and for me, Micah represents the gang's downfall. Edit: The thing I like the most about the Blackwater incident, is that there are multiple versions of the story and we never know what actually happened there, so I wouldn't like to see it in game. But I must admit, it would be an sick ass mission.

Landon Rickets needs to be in rdr3. He clearly has a role in the lore, and was involved in the blackwater massacre. It would be cool if Red Harlow was shown too (Along with the mystery man from rdr1). The possibilities are endless.

Imagine u get to play as dutch before the blackwater incident and u travel across the land with ur gang were robberies weren’t rare and would be cool to see how the gang fell apart before because something definitely happened before with micah and dutch

Man you put a lot of effort into this, I appreciate the passion RDR fans still have. We just can't let go of the Van Der Linde family, that sense of anarchist tribe that lives free nomadically speaks to a lot of people especially today in such dystopian times. I want to see Dutch's softer side to Annabelle, her death 100% affected him like crazy for him to have this much hate for Colm. Also 100% agree Mac Callander being important, I think they can have him play an emotional role where he uncovers a conspiracy finding out that Micha was a rat long before anyone else and martying himself for the gang.

I really hope this happens. In my opinion it’s the best option for the next Red Dead and it would give Red Dead Redemption a proper trilogy

Remember that Dutch didn’t know who Cornwall was until the train Roberry(Hosea tells him that Cornwall is not the man to be mess with. Arthur also didn’t know Milton nor Ross as he forgets their names(a fisher of man). So if Milton and Hosea had a backstory- Arthur and duch would have to be absolutely clueless and i don’t think that would be possible. It was still a great video tho.:)

I love this. Although I think it is specifically mentioned that Leviticus Cornwall was only interested in the end of the gang after they robbed his train right in the beginning of RDR2. Since it is heavily implied both parties didn't even know of each other before that event.

Would be nice to play as a young Hosea. We could deal with more of Dutch and Colm O'Driscoll's history. There is a TON of content that could be explored. How the gang formed, rather than how it fell apart or how they all died.

I think just having Dutch as the main character would be perfect as it then makes the story of Red Dead about passing the torch and cycle of criminality onto the next generation. You play as Dutch and then Arthur at the end, which segways into the beginning of Red Dead 2.

Definitely like the idea of Mac being the protagonist. I feel that being Dutch wouldn’t add much sauce to the story as we already have a full picture of his life, yet Mac we don’t know much about apart from him being one of the most violent members of the gang AND he dies during the blackwater heist, which would probably be the end of RDR3. He seems like a way better protagonist than Dutch. While I would love to play as Dutch as this game would be taking place during his prime, Mac seems to be the best shot.

in my opinion, the story should be more focused around the prime of the gang, and the switchable characters would be Mac Callander, Davey Callander, and Arthur. The story should take off in some type of bar fight including Mac, Davey, and Arthur, switching between each of them in the brawl. The story should end off right as RDR2 starts, or maybe a little before. With one of the final missions being the Blackwater ferry heist.

I would play this even if rockstar didn't publish it. It has a lot of potential and would definitely be a major hit

I’d definitely like to see a 3rd game as you propose, however, until they get that done, I want a remaster of the first one with maybe an addition prologue section that covers how John gets picked up and separated from Abigail and Jack. As far as following someone besides any of the main group, I could see versions of RDR following Landon Ricketts, Sadie or Charles. Lots of possibilities!

I’d love to play as a younger Hosea, he had a ton of hinting backstory in rdr2, you could have a rowdier, younger Arthur and Dutch be involved, see more of Arthur vs John feuding. If Dutch wasn’t so irredeemable it’d be cool to play as him and be in charge of the gang and new characters. the opportunity of expanding Arthur John and hosea’s stories would be so bittersweet.

This is exactly what I would expect for RDR3. Both 1&2 are masterpieces, so imagine a 3rd instalment to the Red Dead series. I wish that Rockstar would stop overhyping GTA online and focus on Red Dead!

Only problem with prequels (or a good thing depending on what you want) is there is always another story to go down and also an ending known. We all knew John survived the end of rdr2, as well as Uncle, Abigail, and Jack, and most importantly Dutch. It could lead to some really interesting stories or some very predictable ones.

I bet this was an awesome video and a great story but frankly when I saw tiny Arthur just bolting through the streets ramming ppl and sending them flying I pretty much lost it and couldn`t stop laughing throughout the whole clip missing everything that was said.

I feel like the third one would most likely take place after the events of one. I wouldn’t want story about an adult jack Marston but it would be cool to see Sadie and Charles again. A prequel of 2 would be cool too because we could see Dutch watch as Lyle Morgan’s gang falls apart like Arthur watched Dutch’s gang fall apart in 2.

I think RDR3 should be about Arthur’s father. It would follow him doing petty crimes leading up to him doing more and more crimes that are getting progressively bigger in scale. In between, he would meet Dutch and Hosea where eventually they come up with one huge heist. Dutch and Hosea would get away and young Arthur would see his father get caught and eventually hanged. Then, in the epilogue, Arthur would find Dutch and Hosea and join their gang. We could see the gang in its early days and play as Arthur. This would end in the gang doing the heist as written in Arthur’s tent in camp where they hand out the money that they made.

This was so good well done, and thank you for putting in the effort!

Your first idea for the third game is so good! It would really tie the sack together and make us even more involved with the red dead series. Rockstar also need to show respect for what the players want, and mainly that is to play as Arthur, Hosea and Dutch.

What I find perfect about Mac Callander possibly being the main character of RDR3, we don't know what happens while he ran off. Charles once told Arthur "Vicious pair of bastards and that's all they'll ever be", but what if he was wrong? What if Mac's redemption occurs during the time he escapes Blackwater? Sounds interesting.

I'd love this, especially exploring the brotherhood between John and Arthur. It was implied they were good friends growing up -- but after John left for a year when Abigail gave birth to Jack, Arthur arguably never saw him the same (until the latter part of RDR2). EDIT: I'd also argue Jack's fate is up for debate. His goal was to hunt down Ross for killing his father, and while he did become a "killer" -- Jack managed to become the most principled of them all. I always liked to imagine he escaped to Mexico (since you already cross the border to kill Ross) and became a famous writer -- maybe finally being the family man John could never be to him (altough he tried). I know the games are only loosely connected, but in GTA5 you can see a book written by a J. Marston called "Red Dead". I like to imagine his fate turned out better than anyone before him.

Also, would be great to have a super extended map, with the rest of Ambarino, Mexico even southern than Nuevo Paraíso, and maybe something north and west of New Austin.

I want RDR3 to be about Uncle. Yes Uncle. He constantly alludes to having been a "strong man" back in his prime or a gunslinger of some renown. Now weather or not this is just the bragging of a drunk not to be taken seriously, or perhaps all we know is the broken remains of a once proud man would be fun to explore. Especially with the popular fan theory that Uncle is Red Harlow the protagonist from the original Red Dead Revolver. Imagine seeing further west of new Austin, old towns like Brimstone that most modern fans of the franchise probably don't even know exist. And piecing together even in only a spiritual sense the original IP with the eventual Reboot that Redemption was. Seeing just what he was up to before falling in with the Van Der Lin gang. Edit: And to add to this instead of a literal death like in RdR and RdR 2, we'd see a figurative death. Of Red, if we use this line of thinking that Uncle is in fact Harlow, from a bounty hunter/ lawman into Uncle, someone who clearly has no respect for the workings of the world. This wouldn't be too hard since as the sun set over the wild west era, corruption spring up en mass, sheriff's basically extorting the towns they where supposed to protect, the U.S/ Indian conflicts, and the beginnings of the civil war. I imagine all that turmoil would turn a young hopeful man into someone much less enthusiastic to help a system that probably seemed to be doing much more harm then good out on the frontier.

Love the Idea especially about Mac Callender cause I did find od about how Arthur reacted and how he and Dutch talked about Mac's death. But I think the next red dead game would be a reboot of Red Dead Revolver and they'll some how connect it with the other 2 games

Definitely appreciate all the work you put in man. For me, I'd actually like to have it be like some shows/movies where they time jump from current to past times. The forming of the gang around the timeline you cover and present times with Jack, who'd actually left the criminal life, being hunted by the feds and being helped to survive by Sadie and Charles with the whole thing sort of narrated by a fed breaking down the whole story which would also include the gap in time between the last camp in rdr2/Arthur's death and the epilogue that shows how surviving gang members went into their new lives.

This is absolutely brilliant. I wish you were working on this in reality. I really hope you’re not far off of what may be in the works behind the scenes. Either way, thank you for providing such creativity to what could be. Much love!

A decent video to start for another Red Dead Redemption playthrough.

This seems like a very logical and interesting decision to make another prequel, that's why Rockstar will do something else entirely xD

Due to the recent events with rockstar and GTA my hopes aren’t that high for the future of rockstar games but I hope the story oh the gang finishes

I always thought that if there was another prequel, you would play as Mac Callander and the story would show the events that led up to the blackwater heist and what his fate truly was. The Pinkertons said they shot him but it was never clear if they were being truthful or not

id love to see them have us play as a character that died either during blackwater or months before. after their death we can then play as arthur. it would be just like 1 and 2 in that way and it just makes sense. if we play as that guy that died at the start of rdr 2 maybe we could play as a close ally met before the massacre.

As soon as you mentioned the name Mac Callender, I was like Yes! The protagonist of RDR3 should be someone we don't already know. Also, I like to think that Colm O'Driscoll was at one point a member of the Van Der Linde gang, but his methods were too aggressive and brought unwanted attention to the gang. He was exiled from the gang, which eventually led to the blood feud. I like the idea of building up the Van der Linde gang.

That could be interesting . Hadn't thought about them allowing you to play the 3 different characters . Figured they would pick a different character that die's at the end and you then switch to playing as Arthur in the epilogue like the other two games have you do.

I recently finished rdr2 and am now in the "devouring everything online" phase of it lol. This video was fantastic. I soooooooo want a 3rd game and id pay to play it exactly as you laid it out.

If we get a Red Dead 3, it totally has to focus on Landon Ricketts since he was only mentioned in 2 (which was understandable given that Ross Hagen died shortly after the first game), but it would be awesome to play as him in his prime. As well as seeing other characters from the franchise like Leigh Johnson, who was also absent from 2.

it would be awesome if as Dutch you can choose between multiple heists, camp locations and who you trust/dont trust and with every choice you completely change the way the story progresses while still sticking to the events that are talked about in rdr2

I’m personally of the opinion that RDR3 should pick up right where RDR1 left off with Jack killing Ross and having to deal with the consequences and have him come to terms with the life he has lived up to that point. As much as I’d love to see the early years of the gang, I think having a mythos is more interesting.

Arthur never got to hold onto love for more than a brief period in his life. His story is heartbreaking.
